  Came over the mountain last night, hard packed sheet of solid white, 50 easy( daughter in the car , otherwise would have been faster) tried the brakes gently at first, then stamped on them, amazing retardation afforded. Snow was frozen too. PS I do slow up for the corners

  fill the engine to the brim with cheap 20/50 engine oil cover anything that might rust in grease things like starters wiper motors brake calipers keep away from a damp garage,ideally keep them in the nice cupboard under the stairs keep the hood in a safe dry place too and watch for rodents eating and pooing on everything,its not nice

  I am contemplating the 'private user' acquisition of a new car which I would contemplate changing every 3 years having previously always purchased and retained my cars from new for a number of years with the financial consequences applicable to depreciation, repairs and replacement parts costs including the usual tyres, exhausts and brake pads / discs replacements etc. Any views as to whether it is cost effective to consider an alternative leasing contract would be appreciated.

  In the past we had the legal requirement of fog lights, hi level brake lights introduced. We have discussed the merits of DRLs on another thread. However, I am wondering if there are any more legal design or feature changes in the pipeline, not just what the manufacturers are developing but what they will require to put in by law?

  I can't imagine they would find anything wrong with my car unless it is something which has recently failed like a brake light.

  I have found that the green hydraulic fluid is oozing from a small pin hole just before the union the goes into the rear O/s caliper, will this fluid only come out when the brakes are applied or will it flow when the system starts up and pumps up the presseure??

  My first post, so hello. Cruise control on my Volvo S80 suddenly won't work. There's no cruise light so I doubt it's the brake pedal switch or anything that switches it off while in operation. I'd like to check fuse, relay, etc but I've no circuit diagram. Can anyone help? And am I on the right track?

  My Diesel D-4D automatic has had its "engine assist" fade in 2000 miles from new. Engine assist is the partial engagment of the clutch when the brakes are released to make the take up smoother. My 2006 car (same model) had the same fault. Is this a known Yaris gearbox fault? I have a friend who has a Auris with the same gearbox problem. G3lcs

  hi there, not long been driving and i am a girl so know nowt about cars....i have a strange ear piercing squeeeeling coming from my car. Though it doesnt do it when accelerating, or braking but when cruising along the car is squeeling like mad......what is causing this???? how much is it likely to cost????? help!!!! thanks in advance!

  Just been on a 75 mile trip and discovered that the OSF wheel is hot to the touch, while the NSF is quite cool. The OSF also squeaks when under load. It has only a few days ago had the brake fluid changed and the NSF had a sticky caliper which was rectified but this new problem is new as of yesterday. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

  Small article on the right hand side of P13 of today's DT: "Speed cameras which can track drivers for up to 30 miles are to be deployed on roads next year. The devices, which stop motorists dodging tickets by braking suddenly before a camera and then speeding up have been tested in London and Northern Ireland. Ministers are expected to approve their use by the end of January."

  I have a peugeot 406 Rapier 2.0 Hdi - sometimes when I take my foot off the accelerator the car speeds up as if I had put my foot down. Why is this? To slow the car I have to brake or change down. Cheers

  Hi all, coming home late last night on the M25, came out of road works at 20mph and put the cruise back on, reached 45mph and message flashed up " low coolant stop safely" as i put my foot on the brake and cruise disengaged the message went out, and on checking the lkevel its fine, whats that all about? Ta.

  Every warning light concerning Brakes ABS Tracction Control and a few others have come up on the dash and my mechanic can't get any code read, He has sophisticated code readers, could it be an ECU Failure, the car drives fine but cant get it through an mot because of the ABS lights on, Most Gratefull For Any Help

  My RENAULT ESPACE SPECIAL EDITIONS 2.2 dCi The Race keeps cutting out when braking and turning corners. I often have problems starting the engine. It's had the cam/crank sensor replaced recently but still the problem keep occuring. Any suggestions

  Can anyone advise me how to adjust the handbrake on my 01 1800 Mondeo.It looks like there is some sort automatic mechanism on the handbrake lever,but how does this work? I have replaced the rear pads and discs and the h/brake works ok but the lever still comes up a bit too far,in my opinion.Can someone help please.

  One of the hydraulic pipes has split,its not in the rubber pipe section,but a metal pipe section.Is it possible to repair the pipe as you would a normal brake pipe by rejoining the two ends with a male and female joint.Or would i need a different fitting thanks mike1

  I want to change the rear discs on my 406 HDi 110 S Estate (2003). I've heard that the handbrake is a different entity to the normal brakes. My question is: is it a straight forward job or can I expect surprises, ie. special tool required or anything else like that. Many Thanx and Merry Christmas
