Avoiding parking tickets 1 May 2003 (Forum)
Question is how does he stand re. covering up his plate whilst parked on the pavement? It's still part of the highway and if a car driver covered up his plates with sticky tape I suspect it would raise eyebrows and warrant investigation. -
Volkswagen - Dsg gearboxes 2 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Also, is there some sense in reverse and second gear being on the same shaft and when coming to a stop if the car is not brought to stationary stop rather than coast the dsg is confused I.e will the driver slow down or will he/she want to reverse??? As for the mechatronic unit, well, the car must be purchased with a decent warranty that covers this. -
Reanault Megane Scenic II - Keyless entry for my Megane Scenic (54 Plate) 6 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Morning Everyone, My car was covered in ice this morning, and to my horror I couldn't unlock my car with the electronic key. It was dead, I couldn't unlock the boot either. I tried warm water to remove the ice (thinking the sensor might be covered - clutching at straws) but it wouldn't work. -
Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 04 1.6 Ghia Steering creak - Warranty or not ? 5 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I have a 2004 Ford C-Max 1.6 Ghia (Petrol) owned since new. The car is still under warranty and I had noticed a steering creak when pulling away very slowly and turning steering either left or right. The creak comes from the direction of the nearside wheel and can be quite clearly heard inside the car. -
Honda Civic UK (1995 - 2000) - 1996 Concealed Rusting Brakepipes (& Rover 400) 17 Jun 2008 (Forum)
A word of warning for anyone with a 5-door Civic and I'm fairly sure this will also apply to the later model, 95 onwards Rover 400. I suffered a brake failure this morning due to a rusting brake pipe blowing. The car passed its MOT last year without them being mentioned. A post mortem at the garage revealed that where the rear brake pipes run under the car they are covered by a plastic casing which renders them all but invisible. -

Snow - how lazy can you get? 20 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Had an inch or so of horrible wet snow last night, then skies cleared so it froze to windscreen etc. Took a while to clear from mine and SWMBo's cars this morning but was amazed how many people were driving with obscured rear screens and even some with only a small aperture cleared on windscreen. What took the biscuit however was that I followed a car a few miles tonight, 20 hours after snow had stopped falling, whose rear screen was still completely covered in snow. -

BMW 320i 2007 - Warranty Direct - Complete Protection No 19 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Reading the website blurb for Warranty Direct who are an insurance seller the state on the front page they state "Complete protection" well that statement is misleading, the policy states they do not do oil leaks unless engine out as I said which would avoid small jobs on other cars but this policy is tailored to my car and a £1061 repair is not covered I have wasted my money on a bad policy. As usual read all policy details and the small print and do not assume anything. -
Saab 93 Conv Bulkhead 22 Jun 2004 (Forum)
s Saab 93 was in for service last week. It is a ?98 example with 56,000 miles on the clock. 2.3l non turbo variant covered by the approved Saab used car warranty supplied with the car when we bought it from a main dealer late last year. When I went to pick up the car the informed me that the bulkhead on the passenger side of the car is starting to crack and needs attention at a cost of at least £550. -
RAC REuropean Cover 24 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I had occasion to call on the assistance of the above when car broke down on journey to the ferry port. This meant that if the car could not be repaired that day a hire car would be provided. Since it was a Sunday it was soon agreed that a hire car should be organised. -
Breakdown Insurance 2 Feb 2004 (Forum)
After years of car warranties that included breakdown cover (only needed once), I am now on my own and need to enrol with a breakdown service. What organisation do members think is best for an elderly driver who does not plan to take his car abroad? -
1.9 Tdi VW 105bhp - Engine tapping when rev'd - Stuck lifter? 10 Jul 2017 (Forum)
On my 1.9 Tdi 105bhp Golf there is a quite loud tapping noise when revved over idle (no sound on idle). I think it is a problem relating to the cam, the car has covered 100k I have removed the rocker cover too get a better look and all off the tappets look to be set at the same height....however one looks very flush to the base - Could this be the cause of the noise??? -
Vauxhall Zafira - Vauxhall Zafira 29 Dec 2010 (Forum)
My Zafria has lost all power in accelaration yesterday whislt driving - the car wouldnt go over 30mph. I called the AA who said it may be a faulty throttle body and it would need to go to the garage (DUH!). Anyway i took it too my local garage as their far more reasonable than big garages - however i do have autocare cover for 2 years with Arnold Clarke - having phoned my local garage they tell me that the accelorator pedal is faulty. -
Protected no claims really is a waste of time 12 Sep 2008 (Forum)
More than 10 years without a claim Except last December an idiot crashed into me Who admitted liability at the roadside, but has subsequently refused to answer questions from my insurance company I have fully comp, plus legal protection, plus protected no claims Bog standard family car How much do you think the premium has gone up? "Unfortunately, we will not be able to cover you for the coming year." What the pink fluffy dice ? From a major insurance company? What exactly was the point of protected no claims if they are refusing to renew cover if you have one accident?
