1996 Concealed Rusting Brakepipes (& Rover 400) - *Gongfarmer*

A word of warning for anyone with a 5-door Civic and I'm fairly sure this will also apply to the later model, 95 onwards Rover 400.

I suffered a brake failure this morning due to a rusting brake pipe blowing. The car passed its MOT last year without them being mentioned. A post mortem at the garage revealed that where the rear brake pipes run under the car they are covered by a plastic casing which renders them all but invisible. Suprisingly they are not required to remove this casing to inspect the pipes. The MOT form did include a note that the sills could not be inspected due to plastic covers, surely another note should be included regarding the concealed brake pipes.
