  This means that from 1 April each year, vehicles constructed more than 40 years before the 1 January of that year will automatically be exempt from paying VED. Gaining historic vehicle taxation applies to when the car was built, rather than sold. So, for example, a car could be registered after the cut-off date – but as long it’s possible to prove its date of construction the tax break will be granted.

  However, a combination of safety concerns, natural consumer nervousness and legislation that hasn’t caught up to the driverless premise currently prevents their proliferation. The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class, for example, features a Drive Pilot system that will automatically change lanes on the motorway if the indicator is left on for more than three seconds. It will use sensors to check the way is clear before self-steering into the adjacent lane. However, while legislation in Germany (and other markets) accommodates this technology, UK law does not.

  Vauxhall recalls 220,000 Zafiras over fire risk 6 Nov 2015 (News)
  It is not thought that any injuries have resulted from the fires. The problem only affects the Zafira B, built from 2005-2014. Models with automatic climate control are not affected, but models with manual air conditioning or no air conditioning may be. Owners of the Zafira A, built from 1999-2005, and the current Zafira Tourer (2012 onwards) do not need to worry about the fire risk.   Vauxhall says the problem probably arises from improperly performed repairs to the ventilation and heating system, or from repairs using unapproved parts.

  The innovation in Thule Easy-fit is the central strut, made in aluminium with an integrated pedal linked to a flexible unit and buttons for unlocking.
