  When I slow down and stop the car used to go straight into neutral but it has recently stopped doing this and remains in gear so I now have to keep my foot firmly on the brake to stop it from creeping forward. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

  Hi all, I got my 06 meriva 1.7cdti 11 days ago, it went back in yesterday as the abs light kept coming on, they replaced the sensor but today the lights come back on. They have told me its safe to drive. The brakes seem fine but I concerned about the light being on. I will be ringing them agfain in the morning, any ideas? Thanks Julie

  Hello, I have an MGF convertiable yesterday as I was driving along a screeching noise came from the back wheels which is now getting louder. It does get louder when you speed up. It does sometimes stop but when you touch the brakes it starts again Anyone got any ideas what it may be I dont think its wheel bearings

  Our Trajet has started knocking from the front when braking and steering at low speeds. We took it into our local Hyundai dealer (at a time to suit us) and they offered us a courtesy car at no cost other than a £15 insurance charge and will have it repaired within 48 hours.

  basically the wheel shakes/vibrates clockwise and then anticlockwise, always seems to be worse after braking shakes worse at speed but noticible at 30/40. Anyone any ideas? Thanks in advance

  The problem comes when I start it in the morning when it has been parked overnight, handbrake on and the lever in "Park." It then needs brute force to pull the lever out of "Park", even though I have my foot on the brake pedal. Any thoughts please?

  i have a t reg 1.6 golf petrol that idels at 1100 revs and hunts up and down, it has had a new air flow meter and brake vac pipes changed, it has been on diagnostic machine and came up with no faults, there doesent seem to be any air leaks, i now suspect the idle speed motor, do they go a lot, thanks eddy

  Whilst doing a job on my 1996 Fiesta the other day I noticed a pressure switch (like a brake pedal / light switch) above the clutch pedal. I looked in my Haines manual and it says it is a clutch position switch, but doesn't say what it does. Could anyone elighten me as to what this little bit of kit is for please?

  No one here ever drives with fog lights on unnecessarily, or holds a mobile phone whilst driving, or drink-drives, or sits in traffic with their brake lights on, etc. As the HJ board is widely read and we are all so considerate and law abiding, just who are these bad drivers? Any ideas?

  I don't think that the water drops reached the dashboard, i am sure about that. But the carpet was wet near the brakes. The water moved across the drivers column and down. Do you have any idea what to check ? Thanks Frank

  Driving to work this morning a car lurched across the road at me at a relatively slow speed. As I braked hard, I noticed that the cause was the driver putting his seat belt on after the car was in motion. It something I've often observed and I can't understand why people can't put their belt on before they set off.

  I've recently had my car laser checked which has revealed that my n/s/r wheel is out of alignment- the car has a slight pull to the left which is most noticable under braking. Is the rear alignment adjustable and if so is this a Honda dealer job or could I expect to find an independent to carry out the work? Thanks, 9000

  The 2 lights come on and a buzzer sounds. the ABS stays on permanent and the ignition light flashes. i first thought it might of been a brake pad indicator, but i changed the pads at the week end, and they dont have indicators. can any body help please.

  Our 1996 Micra failed its MOT with poor near side rear brake pressure. Leaking cylinder replaced at reasonable £13. Still failed with faulty load sensing valve diagonosed (stops rear wheels locking up). Dealer wants THREE HUNDRED AND SIXTY quid for a new valve!!

  I understand that torque is measuring the ability to turn or twist something about an axis (ie. the driveshaft of a car), but how does that relate in the real world to car engines, in comparison to the brake horse power of an engine? Basically, what's the difference, in layman's terms? For example, why do diesel engines generally have higher torques, than their equivalent bhp petrol cousins, and how does this translate in the actual drive from each engine?

  Hi, I've seen a 98 S reg AMG E55 at a local dealers priced at 15995 with 90k on the clock... looks mint outside and in, and has full MB history. Any opinions? I know servicing, types brakes etc will be expensive for this sort of car, but are there too many miles on the clock for this to be a sound buy? I thought Mercs were supposed to be pretty bulletproof, but maybe these AMGs one are different?
