  • Honda Civic or similar 7 Jan 2002 (Forum)
It's high mileage at 73K, but has been regualarly dealer serviced every 12,000 miles. Apart from some very minor damage at the n/s rear corner, it looks OK. It's priced at about £4,900 and we're planning a test drive tomorrow. Overall, and bearing in mind it's my son's cash, not mine, any ideas on whether we're looking at a decent deal or a pup?
  • Type R...? 12 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I test drove the Scooby WRX (with ppp) and there's sod all in it performance wise. Just 8k in my pocket....... :-) There's no other alternative is there? Cooper S maybe... Never bought a new car before so it's all a bit strange.... Looks like a "bargain" though, I seem to remember the Sierra Cosworth being about £24k ten years ago and that had the same power output!
  • Toyota Picnic value 15 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I am looking to buy my Picnic from Leaseplan but I get the feeling they over value the cars compared to what a dealer would charge for one, or what it would fetch at auction. It is a Jan 98 S plate GLS Auto with CD 2.0 petrol, Met paint, 60K miles, FSH of course, and it has not been in any accidents or shunts. Windscreen has a few chips out of it, and there are a few stone chips on the body.
  • Aftermarket Turbo Bits 21 Jun 2001 (Forum)
The only consideration is that if it will fit under a Fiesta bonnet, then it will fit the kit. Will it achieve the same surge as my XUDT after the surgery, or be several 100's down the pan? I have seen adverts for such modifications but am sceptical to their effect. Anyone any comments? Simon
  • Audi A6 - any comments? 31 May 2001 (Forum)
I do about 25,000 miles a year, a 50-50 mix of cross-country & motorway including long continental trips. To be honest, the favourite is a Saab 9-5 3.0TiD estate (I can wait!), but on paper the A6's credentials look good.
  • Fiesta Cylinder Head 6 May 2001 (Forum)
Hi , My wife`s 1986D Fiesta 1.1 looks as though the Head Gasket has blown , so I`ve got to remove the cylinder head. I can do this either by removing the manifold from the head ( 6 x rusted nuts) OR by undoing the 2 rusted nuts securing the exhaust to the manifold , and removing the head complete with the manifold attached.

They’ve a real passion for cars with the sweet Mk I MX5, storming final RX7 Turbo and quirky Xedos from the late 80’s into the 90’s and the later post Ford era range, all of which are a pleasure to own as long as you avoid the diesels which for some reason Mazda just can’t get right. No the firm I’d pick is Peugeot.
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - 04 1.6 Hdi Non-starter P0087, P1113, P1351 19 Nov 2012 (Forum)
A local garage diagnosed dirty diesel, cleaned the tank, replaced the filter and switched off the MIL. I filled the tank at Morrison?s in Glastonbury. A week later, tank nearly empty (87 mile range left), near home in Slough the MIL came back on, I headed for home but the engine died on the way. The starter turned the engine over quickly.
  • Audi TT Coupe - Faulty car just after few days... 19 Dec 2010 (Forum)
He said also that if I go to court for that I will lose, as this happen before Also, the title's car ad said : "2001 AUDI TT QUATTRO 225 BHP COUPE S LINE BLACK", but the car is not an S-Line it's an Audi TT Quattro 225 BHP only. The S-Line add few features. To resume the problems are : - Tyres with 0 mm thread. So the car is unroadworthy isn't it ?
  • Big cars: further to fall? And what would YOU do? 22 Oct 2008 (Forum)
And it?s starting to want parts: the last service bill included £450 for suspension and engine-mount bushes and the dealer also wants to replace some other oily underparts and ? gasp ? the original brake pads.
  • Alfa Brera - I've finally driven one 1 May 2007 (Forum)
There are some ergonomic peculiarities such as a rather strangely calibrated speedo and non-selfexplanatory climate control, but hey, it?s an Italian car. There are 3 instruments in the centre console, one is a turbo boost gauge so you can watch the turbo lag as well as experiencing it. Onto the unrestricted section and up to 230km/h.
  • Fiat Doblo roadtest - V.long!!!!!!!!!! 9 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Before I changed the tyres in the Clio it had the cheapest I could buy from the same Kwik Fit chain and they could be scary, so I don?t know if it?s the car. 3rd ? Refinement. When reved the doblo?s engine is loud, but no louder than the clio?s. The engine note is good however, the clatter of the diesel go to be replaced by this sensus wall of power at 4000 rpm.
  • Not yet sure - New Purchase 10 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I have three options currently with I'd say up to £18,000 to play around with.  Option one is a 2014 onwards Audi Q5, 2 litre diesel S-Line plus.  Option two is a 2014 onwards BMW X3 likely 20D M sport. Option three is a 2016 onwards BMW x1 20D M Sport.  My wife has an obsession with Audi's of which, I'm not the biggest fan however I don't mind the Q5, it's a lot slower than the X1 and X3 pushing 0-60 in 9 seconds, the X1 is the fastest by quite a bit to be honest and obviously had the facelift in the back-end of 2015 so I'd say it's a lot more with the times tech and interior looks wise.

  • C3 Civic - Citroën vs Honda – a foregone conclusion? 5 May 2014 (Forum)
The stats don’t lie – Jap cars are the most reliable (not that the C3 has ever broken down) – but that doesn’t mean they are always the best! If circumstances mean I have to borrow either of these two cars – The C3’s keys are always my first choice - which does genuinely surprise me.

  • Saab - Car Registration sale 23 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I recently purchased a car and the seller was less than honest about the condition of the car it needed repairs carried out at quite a alot money £££'s maybe more. The issue is the seller had a cherished plate on the car but did not remove the number before the sale. I purchased the car with the plate on it and taxed and insured the car with that plate on it, the next day the car would not start the battery was completley flat.

  • Fountains of the North - Trafalgar square in dreams 23 Jun 2010 (Forum)
The decision making had been protracted and difficult - what with Wakefield being the drinking capital of the five towns area - but eventually a plan was raised that would allow `The Merrie City` (as it`s known - and for good reason - burp - just google `The Westgate Run`) The grace and beauty of trafalgar square would be emulated , in the City centre, Bull ring`s makeover. Although it would be impossible to have anything actually above ground - you understand, as it would likely be debased at night due to the drinking culture.

Or do we still reach out with withered hands for the psychological inkpot of youth and the little wooden shaft, pen and nib? Freedom may seem at times an illusion - but it`s expressed best by a biro. oilrag
