Volkswagen Beetle (1998 - ) - do I need to disconnect battery whilst charging ? 30 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Can't say I've ever disconnected the battery from the car before? Presumably this would result in the ECU resetting itself, needing to dig out the code for the radio etc. Is it really necessary to disconnect the battery from the car, or is this just the manufacturer trying to cover their backs? -
MINI MINI One D R50 (2003 - 2007) - Buying an ex - driving instructor's car 7 Aug 2008 (Forum)
It is 06 reg and has done 65k miles (averaging more than 30k a year). The sales person assured me that the car is in pristine condition with any worn parts all replaced and they will be giving the 12 months warranty and MOT cover under the MINI cherished scheme. My question is that should I stay away from this car seeing that it must be treated harshly by the learner drivers (Or is this a misconception)? -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - HDi: Help - knocking sound from cold 11 Sep 2007 (Forum)
The car has done 50 000 miles or so and as far as we know, has not had the cambelt changed. My fear is that the garage will be uncertain and we'll be faced with the choice of either taking the car and worrying about it, or taking the "other" car, with all the hassle of changing the ferry booking/breakdown cover etc etc. -
Car insurance - your opinions sought 15 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Do you stick with the same company year after year or always look for the best deal? What is most important to you - lowest price or level of cover? What would be the best way of buying car insurance in your opinion? Any suggestions appreciated! Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you. -
Firework damage to car - neigbour to pa? 19 Jan 2006 (Forum)
This is going to have to be repaired, and on her 18mth old metallic black car, it aint going to be cheap. There's no doubt in my mind that the damage was caused by a rocket, several of which landed amongst our cars after a neighbours Nov 5th party. I still have the offending items and they fit the dent perfectly, and explain why the paint in the dent is undamaged (although a surprising dent from a cardboard tube). -
DIY-Proof Cars 14 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I've just given up trying to change the oil on my Fiat Multiwagon, having discovered that my new Halfords wrench for removing the drain plug wont't fit (this has nine heads and 'fits most cars'). I've also found that it is impossible to replace any of the front bulbs myself, as the battery blocks access on one side, and the washer fluid bottle on the other, and have been unable to help with jump starting a neighbour's car due to my battery being boxed in by a cover attached by star screws, which I couldn't remove without the appropriate tool. -
A weekend Car 22 Jun 2005 (Forum)
He used to do 60 miles per day to work and back, he now does 50 yards by foot during the week and a few miles at weekends. His Escort is dying so he has had the idea of getting a weekend car for less than £10k. He initially thought about an American muscle car such as a Mustang as he likes the noise of a a V8 (!) but budget and other factors may prohibit. We then went on to discuss other vehicles which may offer him something different and covered all angles - V8 Rovers, Supras, Skylines, Jaguars, Bentley, Westfield, Porsche etc. -
Do you remove your radio front 30 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Have I missed anything? For what it's worth my radio front is in the house now but my car is parked overnight in the street. I know there are some fancy radios that hide their own front (so you're effectively stuck with a halfway position between options 1 and 2) and that you can also buy covers that make it look as if you've removed the front. -
