  • new reliability survey; time to change opinions? 25 May 2016 (Forum)
However, on the forum the current thinking is; don't touch French cars (dodgy electrics), Vauxhall (only average) and Mazda(diesels are rubbish). Maybe these manufacturers have turned a corner concerning production and quality control. I suppose any recent or current opinion from people using these vehicles might be useful in correcting or affirming the long held views of many( myself included).

Can I use the 'Consumer Rights Act 2015' 30 day period, I also paid via debit not credit card (if that makes any difference). If I understand the CRA correctly I can either return the car and ask for a full refund or ask them to repair the car.

  • 2002 corsa electric power steering 23 Nov 2005 (Forum)
The electric power steering on my 2002 corsa is intermittently failing. Family owned from new and just six thousand eight hundred miles on the clock, the car had a new rack under warranty 18 months ago with 4000 miles on the clock. It spent a year off the road before my dad passed it onto my daughter when he had to stop driving. Now just as my daughter is to take her test in the car in two days time the power steering fails intermittently whilst in heavy use, eg part way round a three point turn.
  • Mitsubishi Colt 1.6 16 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Do they perhaps remove the gearbox so they can drain the torque converter? Not in 4 hours they don't. As the car is just out or warranty it will be going to our usual independant for servicing.
  • Citroen DS3 - Citroen dealership caught speeding in my car 17 Jul 2012 (Forum)
have had an issue with my local citroen dealership where a member of their staff has been caught, without my permission, using my car for personal use, and caught speeding, whilst it has been in for warranty repairs. the car went in with engine issues, sudden loss of power and no acceleration. the garage has had three oportunitys to fix the car. the first time they did a software reset and gave it me back. the second time they replaced the timing chain and other associated parts. the third time they replaced the fuel pump. the car is, for now, OK but I've now had a letter from the police over an alleged speeding offence. this is dated to a Sunday, at 16:00, outside of business hours, at a time when i did not have possession of the car and had not given permission for the person who used the car permission to do so. surely this is classed as theft i would like to refuse the car and have my initial deposit refunded. the car is now 13 months old, i have owned it from new, having bought it from the garage where this offence has taken place advice would be greatly appreciated.
  • Kia Rio - Recommendations for a small car for town driving 14 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Hi folks, I am after some advice /recommendation for a small car for my wife to use for work which involves a lot of short trips in traffic/town, so after a reliable car with low mileage. From a budget perspective, my absolute maximum is £6000 and I have looked at used cars in this price range and Kia Rios seem good value for money as I can get 2010 reg cars for less than £6000 and the 7 year warranty seems good.

  • Toyota Avensis T3-x - Short block replacement 6 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I have a Toyota Avensis T3-X 2004 which had a short block replacement because of the problem of using oil in July 2009 under warranty, (service in February of that year), In June 2011 the car suffered complete engine failure which seems to be down to timing chain failure and now needs a new engine.

  • Subaru Legacy 2.5 Head Gasket Failure 27 Feb 2005 (Forum)
My 1998 Subaru Legacy (2.5lt quad-cam) has just been diagnosed with head-gasket failure and piston slap after only 60k - has any one else heard of this happening to what is supposed to be a very reliable car? This is looking to be rather expensive to sort out, and I do see that this is a known problem with this size engine (not sure if it is the same engine) in the US where the warranty for this type of failure has been extended.
  • Corolla Service 28 May 2003 (Forum)
Local dealer has quoted me £172 for the 20000 mile (2yrs) service on my older style corolla (Y reg). Car has only done 16000 miles in 2 years from new. As this is little more than oil/filter/brake fluid change I consider this a rip off. If I asked my local independent garage to do the service and use Toyota parts does anyone know how this will affect the warranty?
  • Dealer Servicing/Warranty ? 4 Sep 2003 (Forum)

  • BMW X3 - Faulty car, dealer ignoring me 1 May 2024 (Forum)
The car was sold to me with an RAC warranty and so I booked it in with an RAC recognised mechanic. I actually also realised that the MOT had run out (I think I may have been misled on the dates actually for that, but that's another story).
  • Dealers fighting back against BER 22 Aug 2007 (Forum)
to get authorisation from the manufacturer (MB was mentioned) to reset the indicator. Ostensibly this is to protect the car manuf. against warranty claims where a car has not been serviced promptly. Couple these moves with the introduction of 'coding' of virtually all electrical parts on the car and you can see that over the next few years technology is going to be used to give the dealers a manufacturers a stranglehold on servicing and repairs.
