Citroen c4 hdi - Faulty car on finance 18 Nov 2019 (Forum)
I have a car on finance that had a warrantee which ran out literally weeks ago within a week of it running out I have had to get the dpf filter cleared at a garage, the radiator fan blew a fuse link and now been told that it has an engine knock which requires a new timing belt and bearings, a new water pump while they are in there and possibly a new camshaft pulley. -
Automatic petrol with a bit of panache and flair 28 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Tried a Mazda 6 petrol auto (new and old model) and was frankly unimpressed. Have seen and heard horror stories on Mazda 6 DPF regens and failed DPFs. Like the look of a Skoda petrol VRS but is the auto the same as VWs DSG? The only car that seems to fit the bill is a Ford Mondeo, 2l ecoboost, powershift in something like a Titanium spec but they are like hen's teeth. -
Mondeo 2014 2.0 TDCi 140 ZBE - Mondeo TDCi - next 50k miles? 1 Feb 2017 (Forum)
What should I look out for in the next year or so? Routine servicing etc. I know about but what about cambelts / DPF failures / DMF issues? The cambelt is rated for 125k miles but I seem to hear of them going much earlier. How about the DPF? I try to keep it clean by my manner of driving and using only Shell Nitro diesel. -
Picasso c3 v CMax V Juke - Changing car 14 Sep 2016 (Forum)
All are comfortable, and have easy access especially the Citroen's, what we also need is reliability and economy, the Fabia was good at these, I am also not sure on the diesel options with the Citroen and the DPF thing. We do a fair amount of short trips, but do get out every other weekend for longer trips. Did have a an note diesel, with no DPF which was most economical car ever owned, but very uncomfortable and a bit unreliable. -
Any - diesel exhaust regeneration 18 Sep 2014 (Forum)
At work we recently took delivery of four out of twenty seven new euro 6 trucks. As well as the Adblue system they now have a exhaust catalyst regeneration system (dpf). Whilst driving one yesterday it started regeneratein and this is the first time I have had this as they have only covers 1500 miles and I drive different lorries all the time. I knew it was regenerating as the light came up but I was entering the waste tipping site at the time so I switched the system off whilst tipping them turnd it back on again once I left the site. -
Chevrolet Cruze 2.0 vcdi Auto - A good "bargain" vs similar Astra? 5 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Is the Cruise worth a punt even with Chevrolet pulling out of Europe next year? We will run the car until it's 6 or 7 years old. P.s. I'm aware of DPF's , I will be driving this car 24k per year and my wife will be driving my non DPF diesel. Thanks, Wug. -
Ford Focus Estate tdci 1.6 2007 - low power 10 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Then we had a noticeable drop in car performance.. having to go up hills in 1 or 2. Noticed the red light was on and we had an engine system warning. Thought it might be the dpf and after checking oil and water I decided to raise the pressure on the sytem to get rid of any clogging in the dpf. I accomplished this when stationery and I could rev the engine as much as I wanted. -
Mazda 6 - Mazda 6 2.2d 185 Sport - Should I buy it? 12 Dec 2011 (Forum)
This Mazda has full service history (Although the last two services have been done 2-3,000 miles over schedule)...I wondered whether this could have done any damage in terms of the Mazda DPF/diesel in sump problem seeing as the oil changes have been 14,500 miles between at least once? I understand the 2.2 diesel engine has a closed loop DPF system, which means it doesnt go wrong as much as the 2.0d engine, but I am looking at getting the system removed by s******* if I do buy the car - wondered if anyone else has had this done? -
VW Golf 1.9 tdi / 1.6 petrol approx 03 plate - Diesel or Petrol 11 Feb 2011 (Forum)
i used to own a Mazda5 diesel which I have had to get rid of due to change in jobs and lower milage may run me into DPF problems (although I had some minor ones before having read on this i have heard its a living nightmare on lower mileages) now having driven diesels for the past 15 years due to high mileage covered I think its fair to say i have an affection for them, now although my mileage wont justify it as an economical option i dont feel as comf***able in a petrol, what i wanted to know is if i purchase a non DPF diesel on an average ,mileage of approx 7000-8000 miles (mainly local driving) and get a 6 month oil change between services taking the usual precautions of leting it run idle a few minutes after journey completed etc should i avoid any major problems? -
ford focus - Particles, Catalitic converters, DPF's, Diesel??? 9 Jul 2011 (Forum)
If manufacturers are so comitted to low emissions how is it that I cannot buy a Ford Focus without air con ( uses 8% more fuel) and told by most enonomy drivers to turn off and it adds £500 to car. I have managed since 03 with a non air con fiesta if I get hot I open the window. The DPF's have an effect on fuel consumption so does Catalytic converters. The addition of the stop start system must put more stress on the battery and will most probably give it a shorter life span. Thus causing more polution in manufacturing a replacement. -
Review - Punto van Mk2b 1.3 Multijet (pre DPF) 9 Apr 2010 (Forum)
It`s done a 79mpg return over 120 miles at around 55mph and really can`t be forced below 60mpg for any length of time however it`s driven. Camchain, hydraulic tappets, galvanized..pre DPF - all plus points. Build faults -the rear door lock not seated properly - two minutes to fix. Possible design faults? door check strap on drivers door wore after only 15,000 miles leading to a clicking sound on opening. -
SEAT Ibiza - Super Quiet Exhaust 12 Apr 2023 (Forum)
I have got a 2012 1.2 tdi Seat Ibiza and have gone to great lengths to make it loud. As of this afternoon it now has a hornet exhaust back box, dpf delete and decat so it is virtually straight through. Yet, it still remains very quiet. What the hell can I do to make it loud? Don’t mind doing some redneck/dodgy stuff to get there I just want a nicer sound -
Ford cmax 1.6 diesel - Engine fault 7 May 2019 (Forum)
Drives normal Put it on code reader saying particulate below normal threshold Revved the crap out of it up the motorway but still not cleared. Spoke to a Dpf cleaner who said probably doesn't need cleaning as no crap coming out the back especially up the motorway Only done 82000 miles any ideas? -

Vauxhall Zafira B - Oil Type, low SAPS on petrol engine? 22 Sep 2017 (Forum)
I just called at my local motor factors and they said I need low SAPS oil, but they also sad my car has a DPF, so I was a bit suspicious. A type / brand recommendation would be appreciated too. Many thanks. -

make no mistake they're coming - Euro VI emissions control 6 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Talking to my friendly local indy garage this morning, and he has been on a course abour emissions and dpf in particular, and says that some cities are planning to ban diesels altogether because the particles that are released after "burning" are even moe toxic and finer than previously thought, By the way one middle eastern country has banned the use of diesel engines in passenger cars and taxis... -

Could any members please enlighten me as to the specific handling merits of the Diesel Particulate Filter? Is this a feature of all DPFs or only VAG ones? ;)
