Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - Focus 1.6,1.8,2.0 MPG 9 May 2017 (Forum)
I'm looking to buy a 2006-ish Focus petrol (had enough of diesel DMFs,EGRs,DPFs etc!) and assumed the 1.6 would be the most economical. However a few forum searchs show many people are disappointed with their 1.6 economy - never reaching the 40mpg figure. I know these figures are a guideline but has anyone had any experience of the economy of the 1.8/2.0 petrol engine? -
BMW 1 Series - Intermittent clutch judder 6 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Last occasion was in stop start motorway journey (neural &!handbrake) each time I moved off. Is it likely to be clutch / dmf related or could some other hydraulic or electrical problem be the cause? If it is clutch related why is it intermittent/periodic? -
Ford Mondeo 1.6 petrol vs Honda Civic 1.8 25 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Hi Guys, I'm thinking of getting rid of my golf tdi for something petrol with less to go wrong. I.e no turbo, dmf and dpf. I've narrowed down my search to the 2 cars in the subject. Does anyone have any experience of these cars? Especially the mondeo, how do you find it with it having a 1.6 petrol engine, what's the mpg like and reliability? -
Skoda Octavia Estate - Chatting with a taxi driver 19 Oct 2013 (Forum)
He sold it with 230,000 on the clock, having bought it with 60K up, and run it for three years. In that time, he'd replaced the DMF twice (he was getting around 80K per flywheel) but apart from that, had only replaced service items and consumables. He's now running a Seat Exeo estate, and has done around 30K in it. Interestingly, he never had a DPF problem in the Skoda, and has had no DPF troubles in the Seat either -- I would guess because the car is used fully warmed up for extended periods, giving regenerations plenty of time to finish properly. -
Taxi running cost! 7 Dec 2012 (Forum)
He has had a new turbo and intercooler fitted and an "electronic problem" fixed, all of this has cost him £2000 in the past year. He then told me that it's going in thursday to have a new dmf, clutch and cambelt replaced, the cost for this lot is £800. He seemed quite happy with the running costs! Although this car only cost him £2600, with all the repairs, hopefully it's trouble free for a while, but I couldn't help feel there must be a cheaper way for him to run a car. -
Ford Focus Estate - Ford Focus Mk1 - Petrol or Diesel? 27 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I like the fuel economy of the Focus diesels (hj's real mpg suggests 36mpg petrol vs 48mpg diesel) but I'm worried about the horror stories of older diesels failing expensively (the DMF problem). My choice for the Mk1's (and Mk 1.5's) seem to either of 2 diesel engines, the 1.8TDDi and the 1.8 TDCi, or the 1.6 petrol engine. I would appreciate any comments or advise on which is the better to buy. -
Kia Sportage 2.0 CRDI 2006 - Sensation through clutch pedal 23 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Is it just the vibration from the diesel engine transmitting through the pedal? I'm aware of the all the DMF scare stories but at idle there is no rattle (apart from the diesel rattle!) and the clutch operates as I'd expect. I've had diesels in the past but I've been in petrol cars for the last 5 years. -
ford focus 2004 tdci 115hp - ford focus tdci poor starting 22 Apr 2012 (Forum)
once warm it starts ok - it drives as normal with good mpg - it's had injectors checked/cleaned then re programed, heater plugs checked, new starter, new sensors, tappets set, fuel tank cleaned (seems to start slightly better with more fuel in tank), dmf seems quiet. I want my car back so any help greatly appreciated ! ps it's a 2004 115ps tdci fully serviced cheers phil -
Ford Mondeo TDCI 2.0 130 2005 - Knocking sound 28 Feb 2012 (Forum)
No noise while driving (except the usual Ford Diesel sound) and everything else seems OK. Any idea what this could be. Praying it's not injectors or DMF as I simply can't afford it. Thanks -
Ford S-Max 2.0tdci - S-Max diesel poor starting a flywheel problem? 16 May 2011 (Forum)
Now, this car is a 56-plate with 73000 miles on it, so the flywheel might be the problem, but I certainly haven't noticed any of the other common symptoms of a failing DMF (rough running or rattling/grinding noises) Does their diagnosis sound right, or should I go somewhere else to have this looked at? -
Honda Jazz - Good long termer? honda jazz 26 Oct 2010 (Forum)

What Car 3K Max? 9 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Hi all, i'm looking for help on finding a different car to what i have, i currently drive a 1998 Peugeot 306 D Turbo S, 45MPG but is too small and i want something with a bit more power but that does not eat up the MPG and simlar to what i get now I'm haveing a nighmare, i would like a MG ZT CDti Auto (no DMF & clutch issues to worry about) , but finding one with resonable milage and good condition seems very hard if not impossible), so i turned to a MG ZT 190 with LPG, but insurance is near enough nearly a 1K! -
HJ doubting diesel 29 Apr 2008 (Forum)
In HJ's Saturday Telegraph column today he comments to a reader that he is getting so many reports of failed DMFs/clutches, injection pumps, injectors, turbos, intercoolers and EGR valves on diesels that he wonders whether overall running costs may be cheaper for petrol engined cars. Now I don't agree with HJ on everything he writes but it was EGR valve problems (and mis-fueling concerns) that put me off a diesel C Max last year. -
