  The Sprite is the only one of four cars built by Healey to enter the 1962 Sebring 12-Hour Florida International GP of Endurance that survived, but the classic had fallen into a poor state. Lighter than the standard model, with race-tuned engine, upgraded suspension and brakes and a racing box, the Sprite was driven by Sir Stirling Moss to a third overall finish. Based at Fuzz's garage, Westgate Classics, the team brought the car back to life, trying to preserve as much as possible of the original specs.

  The underlying technologies designed to assist drivers and improve safety are better received – 69% are happy with drowsiness detection systems, 68% are happy with predictive emergency braking, 66% are happy with adaptive cruise control and 60% are happy with lane departure warnings. Younger drivers, aged between 18 and 34, are happier with the idea of using a driverless car or a car fitted with safety equipment than those over 55 years old.

  October is Tyre Safety Month, and tyre specialist ATS Euromaster has clearly demonstrated the importance of regular tyre checks with the above image. A customer brought his Audi A3 in for a brake check, whereupon the shockingly bald tyre was spotted and promptly replaced. It’s so worn that the cord beneath the rubber is starting to show through. In 2009 there were 860 reported accidents on British roads where illegal, defective or under-inflated tyres were identified as a contributing factor – 17 were fatal and 165 were serious.

Both engines use a stop/start system along with brake regeneration and low rolling resistance tyres in order to keep CO2 emissions low and help improve efficiency.
