hi there folks my girlfriend has a ford ka i have read the posts relating to the heater problems (there seem to be many) here is our problem the heater control valve is working (i bought a new one ) the old one behaves exactly the same as the new one. upon further investigation i have dicovered that the control valve in the car is working too ie it opens and closes the contol valve, but hot water will not pass through the heater matrix.
  • Citroen C5 2.0 HDi 140 (2009) - Citroen C5 Problems 29 Jun 2011 (Forum)
My 2009(MY) C5 has had three manufacturer recalls and returns for warranty repairs well into double figures. The car has done about 25000miles.  Citroen UK after an initial Gesture of Goodwill when the vehicle was less than 1 year old have been nothing but obstructive and recent correspondence has seemed to be  deliberately obtuse, not directly addresssing my ongoing issues.
  • Economical Automatic for high motorway mileage 15 May 2011 (Forum)
Have a budget of up to £13,000 and intend to buy a 2-3 year old second hand car. Either a good sized hatchback or saloon would be fine. Diesel would obviously be preferable, but an economic petrol or hybrid would be fine as well. Any suggestions from the panel?
  • vw polo mark III - handbrake cable travels too high 21 Feb 2011 (Forum)
hi, my handbrake travels to about 9-10 clicks before holding and even then i don’t' trust it holds the car enough to leave out of gear. i have tried tightening the cable from inside the car and it doesn't seem to have made much difference, i have had new drums, shoes and cylinders as the old cylinders broke and thought this was the cause, but it still does not seem to hold.
  • Hyundai i20 comfort automatic - Forced sale 17 Feb 2011 (Forum)
The selling dealer has bid just less than £5800 for it. It is a 10 reg and just over 8 months old with about 4000 miles on the clock. Bearing in mind that similar aged vehicles are retailing for around £10,000 (approved Hyundai cars) this seems to be a bit low. Or is it a realistic bid?? Being charitable the dealer doesn't want the stock and has therefore bid low.
  • Datsun Bluebird 910 (1983) - Recommission of car 11 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I am about to take on a very handsome old 1983 Datsun Bluebird (that is the Japanese RWD model, ie before Sunderland builds).  It is a 1.8GL petrol...
  • DUI & Endangerment? 25 May 2010 (Forum)

He lives aprox 6 miles from the place where he was drinking with his daughter  He was then stoppped after 4 minutes of leaving the pub and blew possitive and was then arrested.
  • Lexus IS250/220D (2005 - ) - Replacing a Lexus 18 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Tiring of his high pressure job and working 80+ hour weeks, he is taking a salary cut and now needs to buy& run a car privately. His budget is £5k, and he estimates his annual mileage to be no more than 12k. The car has to be more practical than the IS250, so a hatch or estate is required...albeit with decent performance and similar build quality.
  • KIA Sedona (1999 - 2006) - 05 2.9 Difficult starting 13 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I an having trouble starting my Kia Sedona in a morning. I have had various things checked and once warm the car starts perfectly. In the morning it turns over fairly slowly and struggles to start. The starter motor is fairly new and the battery is only a week old. I had to call out the breakdown service as the car did not start.
  • Skoda Octavia II (2004 - ) - Millers diesel power ECOMAX 21 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Leading on from long term caretaking of new Octavia, would it be worthwhile running the car on this? It is the 1.9 105bhp PD engine, used it before on old Mondy never saw any difference, but would have needed a strip down to see if any cleaner inside. As all manufacurers, VAG do not recommend any fuel additives, but Millers is well respected in diesel circles.
  • Volkswagen Polo III (2000 - 2002) - 00 1.4 Starting issues 21 Jul 2009 (Forum)
The car turns over ok, but splutters and chugs until eventually it bursts into life, often it needs some help with extra presses on the accellerator. The car does few miles, probably 5k this year and is serviced properly, however a service is due soon.
  • Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - 2005 1.4 Does the timing belt need changing yet? 6 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I am ashamed to say I know little about cars and since moving from my old house no longer go to my trusty local garage but to a big dealership. We've put our 2005, 1.4, golf in for its 60,000 service and they've come back to say it needs the timing belt replaced (for an astonishing £599) even though it hasn't actually gone.
  • Mazda 323 (1995 - 1998) - bangernomics - something to teach/learn in 30 Apr 2009 (Forum)
10 years or so back when these were new on the road, I really liked them Now I am looking for cheap reliable second hand car to teach my 17 year old to drive in. most kids these days head straight for Corsas/205s/206s/fiestas etc, but me being me (and she is just like me) like to be different to the crowd also, been looking on EBAY recently and surprised at the higher than expected cost of Polos/Puntos etc.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 00 2.0Hdi - Battery replacement 28 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Question is what is the recommended power needed for this car? Current battery is rated as 580Amps Cranking and 20Ah, tried to jump from a petrol car rated as 550 Cranking but it didn't even try to turn over. Recommended battery options at local autostore are 480/56Ah or 540/60Ah.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 04 2.5 mk3 v6 lack of power 8 Apr 2009 (Forum)
My Mondeo v6 2.5l is suffering from a lack of power when I accelerate. Taking of from junctions I have to be careful! The car runs well and smooth, quiet, just a lack of getup and go. For a v6 it is very poor. My old Audi A4 v6 was a hot rod compared to this. Any ideas suggestions before I resort to FORD. I have checked under the bonnet and nothing loose or obviously missing.
  • Volkswagen Polo III (2000 - 2002) - 2000 1.4 Gearbox problem 6 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Unfortunatly on the way home tonight the situation changed and whilst the car goes into all gears and drives OK there is a really bad vibration and the noise is quite bad. Sounds like a load of old tin cans being banged together. Again depressing the clutch makes the noise stop.
  • Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - Volvo or Toyota 4 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Hi all, Wife and I have finally settled on replacing our 04 plate avensis (using a bit of inheritence money). We are currently torn between a blue moon deal on a new avensis (old shape), T-spirit, D4D, black with stone leather, manual 6-speed. Cost £15700 or thereabouts (with £2800 trade in for our current car (the saving is about £6k). Other option is a June 08 Volvo S80 2.4D SE lux in dark grey, geartronic.
  • Peugeot 406 (1996 - 1998) - 1997 2.1td Crankshaft Pulley 3 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I am a bit shocked that this problem involved an old traditional diesel engine and my faith in diesel longevity has been shattered.

I would buy a Haynes Manual but they don't seem to have one for anything later than 02. As you can imagine she is less than impressed with her old mans skills!
