Best car to buy 21 Jul 2016 (Forum)
So an automatic or a one with a new flywheel I'm aware these engine have a poor reputation for injector seals and Turbo failures, I've recently done the seals on mine and still have plumes of white smoke in the morning on a cold start. Do the 2ltr HDI units suffer the same problem? I was considering a Peugeot 3008, however all the ones ive seen have the 1.6 unit. Should I be looking for a Focus/ Astra? if so what are the common problems. Thanks -
new reliability survey; time to change opinions? 25 May 2016 (Forum)
In view of a recently published survey from a well known vehicle warranty company maybe it is time to change opinions regarding certain makes or models. Surprising to learn that Renault and Peugeot do quite well. Ford and Vauxhall have a decent showing. Mazda do very well. However, on the forum the current thinking is; don't touch French cars (dodgy electrics), Vauxhall (only average) and Mazda(diesels are rubbish). -

The list at the moment is: Nissan Note circa 2007/2008 - 1.6 Ford C Max 2006/07 - 1.6 Skoda Roomster 2007 - 1.4 Peugeot 307 SW - 2007/08 - 1.6 Have I missed any obvious other candidates? Any strong thoughts / experiences that might lead me in the right direction? Thanks for any help. -
Any - Family car for under £6k challenge 17 May 2012 (Forum)
The only car that fits most of those criteria at the moment is a Renault Megane Estate 1.5 DCI, or a Peugeot 307 SW 1.6 HDI, but I'm rather scared of those with reliability side of things (and with the pug the DPF). I can't seem to find anything else. Help! -
Any - Is there are a directory of start/stop 21 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Cars I could be interested in: Audi A3, Seat Leon, VW Golf, VW Scirocco Citroen C4, Peugeot 307 or 308 BMW 1 series Volvo C30 Need to find something under £10K, so something that has been around a few years would be of interest, newer models won't be in my price range range yet Guy -
If only everything in life was as reliable as ... 22 Jul 2011 (Forum)
On the way home down the M6 and M1 on Friday I spotted two Passats and one Golf - all 57-58 reg on the hard-shoulder – presumably fuel injector failures? The only other breakdown I spotted was a Peugeot 306 - although I should probably discount 10+ year old cars from the stats. On the way up this morning I thought I'd see if this was a coincidence - amazingly I spotted another two Passats and one Golf! -
Rover 75 - In the market for an estate car... 27 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Really would appreciate the opinion of someone in the know.... Otherwise I'd consider a Focus, Mondeo, Vectra, Volvo V40, Peugeot 406 etc. Would be very interested in any thoughts as to which models tend to offer best value.... Many thanks! -
Biggest impovement on manufactures' model change? 26 Nov 2009 (Forum)
My Sierras (two of them) did 135,000 miles and 140,000 miles with very little apart from regular servicing(one alternator and a couple of sets of discs). My susequent cars only showed a slight improvement on model change : Peugeot 405 to 406, Carlton to Omega and Audi A6 to....A6. Going back to the 1950/60s, I can imagine big improvements in say a Ford Pop/Anglia (sit up and beg) to an Anglia with the reverse rake rear window. -
Smallish automatic for about £6k 21 Nov 2009 (Forum)
We are now thinking of a 1.6 Nissan Note automatic, she has driven one of these as a hire car and it drove well, but she would like something a bit less "utilitarian" and more chic. She would like something a bit different, no Fords, Renaults or Peugeots? Anyone have any ideas? -

I am still trying to find the ultimate value all rounder, Work horse-sunday morning blaster-commuter-motorway cruiser-Gt; You get the idea, The choices so far are; Nissan Primera GT BMW 325tdi (Not sure on this one) Peugeot 306 D turbo Ford Puma 1.7 (may be a bit small) Maybe just maybe a Seat (leon or Toledo td) All these cars can be purchased in decent condition for under£1500, All are meant to be a great drive (Don't know much about the BM or Seat) Any thoughts or ideas would be welcome as there is just so much choice, Right now the Primera seems like the best move but tomorrow it'll be something else...Help. -
Variations in servicing costs. 23 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Enquired with the supplying dealer (who were excellent when I bought it) and they wanted £261. They absolutely wouldn't budge from the price. Decided to check with the other local Peugeot dealer (who didn't seem that interested in selling me one) and they're charging £132. What a huge difference in price. Thing is, the first dealer bend over themselves to provide customer service, and I feel almost guilty at going to the cheaper one.......but not that guilty to pay an extra £130!! -
Gaping mouths 16 Apr 2008 (Forum)
These look like the archetypal tailgaters' cars-"I'm a big fish, so move over, or I'll swallow you." Audi seem to have started the trend, now being copied by many, e.g. Ford & Peugeot. And while I'm at it, why do the recent BMWs look so sinister and nasty, particularly in the darker colours? It seems to be something about the swage lines along the sides. Am I being too sensitive? -
Frozen windscreen washer jets 3 Jan 2008 (Forum)
It seemed to me that my Berlingo had a particular problem here, and that my old Mark III Fiesta was a lot better. A Peugeot 206 driver said that the washer jets on the 206 were also pretty useless in freezing weather. I turned to a Saab driver and said "I suppose you won't have a problem with this?" He told me that his Saab had real problems as well. -
Aftersales service 31 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Just got home from work and found Mr Postie had left a big cardboard box. Opened it up and found a big Peugeot branded tin of premium chocolate chip cookies. There was also a thank you letter and the all important follow up questionnaire regarding my purchase of the 407 coupe. I've already had a phone call from the dealer checking everything is ok!. -
Water Cooled Turbo`s 21 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I noticed in H.J`s road test of the Peugeot 207 GT that he mentioned >>>it has a water-cooled turbo so you don?t have to worry too much about idling before you switch off.>>> When one considers all the problems with seized turbo bearings/failures that have been noted on this forum over the years from Renault, Nissan & even Honda among many others, it seems odd that manufacturers have not adapted water cooled turbos more widely. -
Cheap Replacement for Passat 10 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I like my cars to be cheap and frugal, and have a habit of buying a car with reasonably high miles and running for a couple of years. I have seen a 2002 (02 plate) Peugeot 406 Hdi 90 LX with 109,000 miles at a local dealer for £2,895. Whilst not the prettiest in non metallic red, it does seem a bit of a bargain, given that mileage adjusted Glasses retail is £3,895. -
C15 Electrical Problem 7 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I have recently aquired a C15 diesel, the later 1868 Peugeot (?) engined version. Tonight, in the monsoons we are having, of course, the battery warning light decided to come on permanently and lots of electrical bits stopped working, like wipers and indicators. -
Pug 406 2.1TD Bad Running 13 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I'm looking for a few suggestions as to what may be my problem before I pay Mr Peugeot lots of money for a diagnosis the car a 1999 so pre HDi is hard to start, when it does it constantly hunts from around 700 to 1500 RPM as if i was stabing at the accelerator pedal, it will idle like this for a couple of minutes before the cutting out but will restart and run the same again. -
406 HDi - constant live 30 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I've recently bought a 99V Peugeot 406 HDi Rapier (no CD player or climate control) with 110k miles. Mostly the car works fine but it doesn't seem to realise when the ignition is off in that there is always a live feed to the cigarette lighter, the lights on warning buzzer never comes on and the stereo can always be switched on. -
