S Reg 406 Coupe Cambelt 25 May 2006 (Forum)
Hi all My brother has had the above car for around 12 to 14 months. He bought it from a friend with 80 odd thousand miles on it. I recommended that he get a new timing belt kit on it as it hadn't been replaced previously. A mechanic friend of mine did it for him around 12 months ago. -
Insurance Advice Please 10 May 2006 (Forum)
I seem to recall an article in Motoring Telegraph which said that car insurance companies do not take on new customers who are aged 75 or more. A couple I know are approaching this age. Their insurance has for several years been in the wife's name (to get better rate for her lower age?) -
scenic fuel filter 23 Apr 2006 (Forum)
hi i have a renault scenic 2002 1.9dci.it has been suggested to me that i should change the fuel filter as it is a probable cause to my jerking at steady speeds then dissapearing on acceleration.it also seems to lack power on the lower end rev range.i have never had to change a fuel filter before or even know any one that has had to.what is the likelyness of this being the prob.the car has only covered 33600 miles and the wrong fuel was put in(previous owner)at 24000 miles, would the filter have not been changed then???also do i need to replace or can i clean with airline at work. any comments and feedback would be appreiciated cheers -
Using forecourt Jet Washes 19 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I.e. does the timer on the clean water jet start when its used or are they on a timer?? Ideally I'd like to cover the car in foam, then rub it down with a mitt and wipe the alloys. Then, wash off with clean water but I don't want to run out of time!!! What sort of programs do they have? Local ones to me are Tesco and BP. -
Polo 1.2S Driving Impressions 23 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Latest loan car is a three cylinder Polo 1.2S. Seems very well equipped with front fog lights , heated powered mirrors , air conditioning. The three cylinder engine looks tiny, the plastic cover having gone AWOL.Thank goodness there is no cambelt on one model.Lets's hope it sets a trend back to chains. -
Accord Diesel Consumption - Update 11 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Following the correspondence regarding fuel consumption of the Accord diesel I'm happy to report that there has been a huge improvement. The car has now covered just over 11,000 miles and achieved 50 mpg on a journey from Rouen, where I filled up, to Calais, which was all autoroute except for the trudge through Rouen and the outskirts. At Rouen I had a consumption of 46 mpg from the Lot region, on a mixture of autoroutes and N and D roads some of which were which were narrow and steep. -
Juggernauts & now Road Trains ? 11 Sep 2005 (Forum)
The damage that these monstrosities could inflict on our already third world road network surfaces would be appalling and us poor motorists will be penalised even more to cover the costs. If you happen to drive a low powered car with poor acceleration, the overtaking times are going to be doubled and could lead to even more accidents. As fuel prices rise to their unacceptable level, hauliers will push for their introduction to reduce their unit costs, but it ends up with additional taxation on the already over taxed motorist. -

Should I buy 323ci on ebay 27 Jul 2005 (Forum)
The vehicle has full BMW service history and is HPI clear. What should I look for if I decide to view the car. Are there any particular problems with this model. Finally my current vehicle is a 1999 V Audi A3 1.8 T Sport which has covered 103,000 miles what would I be likley to achieve in a private sale? -
1995 FIAT Punto 1.7 diesel 29 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Am considering a) dropping engine at drivers side; b) removing steering pump completely (already have pipes off, radiator header tank off, air filter off, timing belt cover off); c) suicide or d) putting the thing back on and charging the battery up daily. Needless to say, it's the daughter's car not mine. -
New Ford Focus 13 Jan 2005 (Forum)
My family and I may visit today a local showroom - i phoned and was adsvised to make an appointment - my feeling is that it is under cover in the showroom. They have the Ghia version. Does the car have the same TDCi engines and CVT as the FF-C Max? The CVT in the c-max has not been built for months and honest dealers are not accepting orders. -

Track Day Headgear 18 Oct 2004 (Forum)
A motorbike shop seems the obvious place, but is this likely to be a full face job that is perhaps OTT for car work? I see TG's Liana drivers have something that doesn't cover the mouth and looks rather more comfortable. Or maybe that's so they can record the celeb making a bleeping noise. Any ideas? -
2002 corsa 1.2- electrical probs 13 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The car starts normally after a few minutes. The dealer had a good look after the first breakdown but didn't find anything wrong, and replaced the ignition switch connector just in case. But it broke down again today! -
Mercedes Warranty 4 Feb 2004 (Forum)
He recently took it in for them to investigate a knocking in the steering. They told him that he needs a new steering column. The car had a replacement steering column only 18 months ago and so he thought that it would be covered by the Mercedes 2 year warranty on all their parts. However the dealer has stated that they will not replace the steering column under warranty because the steering column is in fact a warranty replacement and doesn't qualify! -
Audi 80 temperature gauge 2 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Please forgive me if this problem has been covered before as I have been told it is a common problem with this car. My 1994 Audi 80 2.0E type B4 ABK engine has a temperature guage that works intermittently. I have replaced the sender but this has made no difference. -
Cyclists - what if....? 16 May 2003 (Forum)
I doubt they have cycle insurance to cover such eventualities. Is it simply a case of sending them a bill? If so, what if they refuse or are unable to pay? What if it is a child that causes the damage? They will have no means to pay. This is all hypothetical. -
MB warranty question 27 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I've been offered a 2001 vehicle which was originally supplied as an import. It's around £3000 less than equivalent UK-supplied car. Looks a bargain. Question is, what about warranty? UK supplied Mercs have 3-year warranty, but only manufacturer's portion of that will apply to import. Does anyone know whether the MB warranty splits 2yrs manufacturer/1yr dealer (in which case I'd probably have a few months left) or the other way round (1yr M, 2yr D), in which case I'd be out of warranty cover from day 1? -
dud puma 2 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I own a 1.7 zetec engined Ford Puma in which I have covered 34000 miles since I bought the car new in March 2000. It came with the standard 1 year warranty. which has since been increased on this model to three years. I recently experienced a catastrophic engine failure (whilst cruising at 50mph in top gear) while I was on business several hundred miles from home. -
Update on 306 woes 2 Dec 2001 (Forum)
We took the car into a halfords/aa garage. (Are these people any good?) and the guy there said he reckoned the noise is coming from the top end, so this weekend i'm going to open up the rocker cover and check for play in the camshaft.
