  I have seen 35% jet fuel in winter diesel blends and as jet fuel has less energy per litre than diesel, you get (slightly) lower mpg. Also you can see that (one of the many reasons) diesel cars go further on a litre is that there is more energy in a litre of diesel than a litre of gasoline (petrol).

  Well, I've had my welcome to the diesel world! Just bought an old diesel Peugot 309 and driving along a few days ago the 'water in fuel filter' light went on. Have done a little research and it seems this is a common diesel problem. I have several questions but please let me know if they're not appropriate for posting on this site - Could this indicate something more serious than poor quality diesel fuel (last filled up with Sainsbury's diesel, I think)?

  Can anyone advise please. I have removed a Lucas diesel fuel injector pump - I have locked the engine at TDC as prescribed by the manual. I am puzzled by the pundits who suggest inserting 2 bolts through the fuel pump sprocket to 'lock the fuel pump in position' .

  Your recent articles suggest that this fuel lacks lubricity. I have a 1996 Mercedes E Class, 300 diesel, with 68,000 miles and which I hope to keep for a very long time.   After about 3 miles the car started running jerkily as if there was a fuel line issue. I parked up and left it.
