  • Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 2001 2.0 Emissions light on 8 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Hi, My emission's light keeps coming on regardless of replacing the lambda sensor. It's reading on the computer as saying fuel/oxygen too rich or words to that effect. After checking under the bonnet I can see that whoever had it before me put in a non-standard fuel pressure regulator so I'm guessing that this is running too high?

  • Audi A4 (1995 - 2000) - 1996 1.8 Temperature sender 21 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Whilst poking around the water temperature sender I noticed a second plug hanging loose. I couldn't see where this might have come out from, but Haynes manual mentions fuel injection temperature sensor. If this has indeed fallen out would the car run OK? It seems to be fine, but fuel consumption is a bit more than I might expect ( low to mid 30's per gallon) Engine is ADR

Is that true ? What is the most fuel efficient way to drive down a steep hill ? 'Drive' down it, or roll down it, with the clutch depressed, or not ? Cheers !

  • Toyota Carina E 25 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Thoughts on the suitability of a 1996 Toyota Carina E, 1.8 CD, 5 door for a 150 mile per day mainly motorway commute please. Actual fuel economy from owners, common faults and questions to ask seller. Also what to look for due to it having a towbar fitted that has been used to pull a caravan. Got some great info from a previous thread regarding what to look for on the used market and am looking for fuel economy, reliability and comfort (decent drivers seat!!)
  • Renault Trip computer 28 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Unlike Jermy Klaxon and the late lamented Adam, i'm not keen on running on fumes, so last night on the way home I was not happy when the range on the trip computer dropped from 62 miles to zero in the space of less than a mile. Has anybody else experienced this - the car is a Megane 1.5 dci. I understand that fuel consumption varies and that such things have limitations, but to change from having 60+ miles of fuel and 'none' in the length of a motorway slip road is a bit disconcerting ! -- Go on, get out of the car... http://www.mikes-walks.co.uk
  • Escort Juddering/Kangarooing 2 Nov 2006 (Forum)
It is a intermittent problem but now getting worse. Over the course of this problem, have changed the Cat, Fuel filter, Fuel tank, Spark plugs and changed the Lambda Sensor. Without hooking it up for diagnosis, does anyone have any other idea what the problem could be or is diagnosis the only answer? As this is only intermittent, would diagnosis pick it up?

Dealer says "no" but service book refers to an "external" fuel filter on the Petrol engines? Brake Fluid change? Thanks in advance
  • Road 'Tax' for caravans 2 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I know they don't burn fuel (they just make me burn more fuel!) and they aren't mechanically propelled so, under the present tax regime, they aren't liable but what about changing the law to charge all caravans some sum of money for being on the road?

  • BMW 530d E60 - Winter Operation 27 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Noise eventually goes when the engine has warmed up. Any ideas what this can be? Viscosity of diesel at low temperatures or something else in the fuel system or controls? I use Shell, BP or Texaco diesel - no supermarket fuel.
  • 306 air leak??? 15 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Hi, recently bought a peugeot 306 M reg and not long after buying it when I drove along the engine would cut out, but if i tryed to start the engine again it would first time. Now I wished it still did that, I called out the AA and he blead the fuel and it was lots of air within the fuel supply. I have drained around 8 litres of disael but the air is still there. I was just curious if there is if anyone knows of a common problem or solution to this.

  • Pump action failure ? Nissan Primera 31 May 2005 (Forum)
The engine turned over, but would not fire up. I ended up calling the AA patrol out, and he checked the Fuel pump fuse & relay and they were fine. He ended up getting it started by spraying something through the air filter hose, and said it was the fuel PUMP. Is this really the case ? or is there something else that he could have done to check/eliminate it further ?
  • legacy engine mystery 5 Oct 2003 (Forum)
It will restart after several attempts, run for 1 mile or 50, and stop again. We\'ve checked for spark, fuel and replaced the \'top dead centre pickup\' (whatever that is!) cleaned everything with no success. It was suggested I check the fuel pump relay, but where is it? ANY suggestions would be welcome,it\'s getting dodgy on busy Mways!
