  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 01 2.0 tddi, high fuel consumption 2 Feb 2008 (Forum)
hi, can anyone help? i have just purchased a 2001 Mondeo tddi 2.0l zetec(60,000miles) and am getting really bad fuel consumption, ie, 26 mpg around town, this has been consistent for 4 weeks and i have been driving like a Sunday driver (im not a boy racer) the garage have done a diagnostic test which did not show any engine faults, but the oil level was 1/2l above max, the mechanic said this could be the problem so he drained it out, also the air flow sensor was unplugged (i noticed this about three weeks ago) so i plugged it back in but there was no noticeable difference to the engine running when i did so, have i bought a pig in a sack???

  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - Fuel range & MPG for Mk1 1.8 Zetec? 19 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Hi I have a Mk1 Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec Collection at the moment, and just wanted to know whether or not this model car had a reputation for being a bit thirsty? The reason why I am asking is because from filling her up, to getting to the fuel light coming on, i am only getting a range of around 275-290 miles, and that is with me driving normally, and not caning it anywhere. I had imagined a 1.8 engine would be getting around 350 miles out a £45 fill up?
  • Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - HDi disappointing fuel economy 2 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I far as I am aware it is exactly the same engine (though 5 years newer - so should be better?) in a smaller car so why would my fuel consumption be so much worse? Generally my driving style/speed remains unchanged - though I would say that the 307 is much livelier so I probably accelerate more briskly, but as I say, 90% of my driving time is spent pootling down the M4 at 70-80mph - exactly as before.
  • USA wakes up to diesel cars ? 9 May 2007 (Forum)
The report, "Diesel Challenges Hybrids in the US," concluded that new, low-sulfur diesel and cleaner-burning diesel engines could help carmakers sell light-duty diesel vehicles in all 50 states. Diesel vehicles achieve fuel mileage superior to hybrids, and are popular in Europe where fuel is very expensive. Five states led by California prevent the sale of diesel cars through strict emissions regulations. But cleaner diesel and new engines from DaimlerChrysler and Honda that convert harmful emissions into harmless nitrogen could have diesels making inroads.
  • Lies, Damn Lies and Fuel computers 20 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Hi, My last three cars have all had fuel computers and they have all been quite accurate. Although I haven't got a great deal of data to go on , I have just got a new 1.8 TDCi S-Max and it does appear to flatter your ego a bit. My last two fill ups it told me I was getting 51 and 49.8 MPG respectively - LIES.
  • Rover 214 (L) - Hot Re-starting problem 13 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Would a replacement pump be the solution or is the problem likely to be under the hood (Fuel Injection etc..)? Thanks in advance Steve
  • Polo GT '91 again 24 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Today drove into town, waited for missus to finish her appointment. 1hour and half later, it wouldn't start! It turns over but it's like it has no spark. and the fuel pump wasn't kicking in for a second when the ignition was turned, as it usually does. So I bridged the fuel relay, and tried it but still just like there is no spark. I had no tools with me - it was hard enough getting a bit of wire to bridge the relay.
  • Focus CMAX Fuel Consumption 5 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Just bought a Focus CMAX 2.0 TDCi Zetec, 8k, one year old from Ford Direct via a Ford dealer. I've had it for about a week and the fuel consumption is about 30mpg on average for 50% town/50% motorway. Is this right? The specs for this car on the Ford website state 50.4mpg, should I expect my car to do this? Could there be something wrong with the engine?
  • Snake oil and economy devices 6 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I have been given a set of spark plugs for my old 405. Powerplugs (www.lectro.com). They suggest improvements in fuel economy of "up to 20%" and "15% more power" from changing to these plugs, with one landrover owner getting 13% more fuel economy. The secret is that the electrodes are "cryogenically treated" Wow!
  • Almera 1.8SE Fuel Gauge, 00MY 4 May 2004 (Forum)
Hello peeps, I have a little motoring problem. My fuel gauge has become inaccurate. When I bought the car (19K miles) and filled the tank the needle didn?t quite reach the full mark, but it was close enough to not worry about. The empty light would come on 400 miles later and it would take 56 litres (60 litre tank IIRC).
  • 91 BMW 316 E36 water leak 26 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Only the footwells are wet with no evidence of a leak from above. Could the heater matrix be leaking? Is it a known problem with these cars? In addition the fuel guage has now stoppped working it was showing quarter full, but when I filled up it remained at this level and in fact has now gone down to zero, but interestingly the orange low fuel warning light has not come on (the tank is full of petrol).
  • Mondeo starting problem 19 Dec 2002 (Forum)
The dealer tell me they checked the glow plugs compression etc and that the fault was a diaphragm on the fuel pump, £140. this made no difference at all, after various other checks they decided that the fuel injector pump is faulty but due to the costs involved suggested I run the car as it is. I would welcome any advise, I honestly believe that the dealer is guessing, although the car has done 140k miles the fuel pump was replaced by them some 19 months ago, and apart from this problem the car runs very well and returns some 50mpg.
