Renault Espace (1985 - 1997) - 94 2.0 Engine loses power for a second or two 12 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Starts fine, runs happily on long journeys, but on local trips it's plagued by frequent (every minute or so) loss of power for a second or two. This shows as uneven idle speed, too, fine when cold and (probably) fine after running for half an hour, but otherwise fluctuating 500- 850 rpm (should be steady 850). -
Skoda Fabia 2 (2007 - ) - Engine oil - factory underfill? 22 Jun 2009 (Forum)
During handover, usual questions - "Have fluids been checked?" - Yes sir, definitely. So accept the car - drive home 40 miles - stick to own running in rules (under 55mph - 3000 rpm max) - everthing fine. Sat morning, now 150 miles on the clock, on a whim decide to check the engine oil level (cold before first start) . WHAT? ENGINE OIL BELOW MINIMUM MARK! -
Peugeot 405 Diesel (1988 - 1996) - 92 1.9 Leak around injector pump throttle shaft 10 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Tried unsuccessfully to get a second hand pump and was about to scrap the car when I was told to try running the engine on tickover "until the engine was hot". To stop the leak as a temporary measure I pulled up on the shaft with the linkage removed as this seemed to overcome the problem until the linkage was replaced. -
The truncated rev range myth? 4 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Time and again on here we see the statement that diesels have great shove, but run out of steam as the revs run out at 4.5k. I just don't get this at all. What is relevant from a drivers point of view is how much of the rev range is useable, not the absolute revs - that's just a number on the dial that could be changed if you wanted. -
Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 98 1.5D Removing sheared nut on glow plug 11 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Any suggestions- other than the non starting hopefully to be solved with new glow plugs it a great little car and I'm loathed to return it. Just another point- I know a couple of people elsewhere on this site have suggested you can just run on three plugs but typically this plug is the nearest to the battery and the top part of the glow plug (where the cables slip on) also shear away with the holding nut so I cannot even re-attach the cables to run one old plug with the three new ones!!! -
Jaguar S-Type (1999 - 2007) - possibly insane car change 20 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Hi all, We (me, wife & 11 week old son) currently run an 04 reg Toyota Avensis 1.8vvti T4 hatch, and very happy with it we are. Big enough to fit junior's pram & gubbins in and reasonably economical, if not terribly exciting. However... I am about to come into an inheritance. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 03 1.8 LPG fuel problem 7 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Sometimes after this happens I switch to petrol then back to gas again and the same thing occurs after a few minutes. However, once the car has been running on gas for a while it seems to be OK for the rest of the journey. This is only recent; I've had the car for a year now and it has always run fine before. It has covered 103000 miles so far. I'm not an expert on lpg so not sure who makes the system that Ford fitted in their vehicles or what effect this might have. -
The case for second hand petrol cars? 29 Aug 2008 (Forum)
At last, some "man maths" which actually stack up ! As some of you will already know I have been running two cars back to back for a month. One is my older (02 )Mondeo diesel estate, the other is my recently aquired, albeit second hand, 2.2 petrol Signum. This has been an especially busy motoring month and I have managed to rack up 3000 miles in both cars. -
Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - HDi Pollution fault 17 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I disconnected each plug of the injectors, she is off number 2 and 3 injector completely, if you take 1 or 4 injectors off, the engine stalls. The engine gets a good long run all the time and gets a good blow out. I have asked manufactures mechanics and they have not come across this problem before. Do you know what this fault code1355 is and have you come across this before? -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Downsizing - only slightly - but what to? 4 Jun 2008 (Forum)
My father has admitted that his Mondy (2002, 1.8) is too big and expensive to run for his infrequent use (he has a company van and only uses the Mondy to drive my mother to the supermarket, and to take my grandmother shopping). With the road tax exceeding 200quid, he wants something 'more reasonable to tax, run and insure'. -
Ford Fiesta (1989 - 1995) - 1993 1.1 - Starting Problems when Cold 29 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Sometime if I leave it an hour it will start ok. Battery is good and spark is evident. When it does start it immediately ticks over and runs perfectly. If I tow it for a bump starts it starts ok and runs fine and seems to restart fine when the engine is warm. Have tried various numbers of accelerator pumps pre turnover and holding pedal to the floor, taking of air filter etc but cannot find a single reliable 'trick' to get it going. -
3 years of a C220 21 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I have run a W reg Merc C220 diesel for just over three years and thought it would be interesting to compare costs with other BRs who have had their car of any make for a similar period. I paid £8500 after part exhange allowance of £2000 and I might be lucky to get £3000 for it now. -
Ford KA, KA2, KA3 (1996 - 2008) - 2002 1.3i - oil top up followed by white smoke??? 20 Nov 2007 (Forum)
We immediately bought some oil and filled it up (the correct specification was used according to the handbook). For a couple of days, the car was fine, and running more smoothly than it had been. However, today, there was a lot of white smoke coming from the exhaust which smelt of burning (not normal cold weather condensation). The engine seemed to be running ok, and there was no white sludge under the filler cap, nor any loss of power. -
A Radical Approach To Performance Tuning.... 7 Nov 2007 (Forum)
After running the car and letting it suck in sand we got about half way through a 25 lb bag. The check engine light was on and the engine was bucking and kicking and sounding really weird. We stopped and hooked the car back up normal and took off the sand supply. -
Your dream ten car garage 11 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The cars I would have are.. 1) My 1982 Porsche 928S - fully restored to showroom condition 2) A late Porsche 928GTS - as a daily run around 3) My Discovery TD5 - its not perfect, but I like to call it home! 4) A Ferrari 355 Spider - great looking car, but I'll need suncream for my bald head! 5) A Mclaren F1 - perfect for the school run 6) A Matra Rancho - in orange, to match the Corgi model I had one Christmas as a boy 7) A Toyota Celica GT4 Carlos Sainz - the last shape with the pop up lights 8) An Austin Clifton Heavy Twelve Four - anyone remeber Gumdrop? -
ABS Warning light on 01 Vauxhall Vectra 30 May 2007 (Forum)
On one occasion they told me that they had found a loose connection on the ABS sensors and that the 'problem' should go away. Then they tried to charge me £30.00 to run a diagnostic, even though the light wasn't on! Have now left the main dealership and am using a local 'approved' garage, but they tell me the same - no light, no error code, no fix. Is this true? -
Punto 60SX - starts and then doesnt 5 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I can start and run the car for ages or for a ten minute trip to the shop, and then if i turn it off and come back to it in like10mins or so it wont start again till about 1/2 hour. This started around 2 months after i owned it too, altho it doesnt happen lots either, and seemed to stop when it got serviced in january. -
E90 BMW 320Si guages in dash 12 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hi BR's I've just taken delivery of my new company car - a BMW 320Si and have been driving around for the last week running her in. (1000 miles in 5 days) I've come across a few oddities. They may be common knowledge to other E90 BMW owners but as its my first company car/BMW/new car please excuse my ignorance. 1) There is no temperature guage in the dash - The handbook informs me that there is a warning light in the event of the engine overheating! -
Insurance and buying tax disc! 26 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I was told the insurance certificate was not acceptable because it didn't refer to the period for which the tax disc would run. Now the insurance has been renewed, but the new certificate hasn't actually arrived, so I thought I'd get the disc while the old one was still valid. Nope! The assistant in the Post Office said that even if my current certificate had run one single day into May she could have issued the disc! -
Company car / cash alternative dilemma 31 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Hopefully by then there will be a decent amount to choose from at semi-reasonable prices. While we're on the subject - anyone got anything to say on running a new shape Legacy ? I know there's been a few threads on general Subaru ownership, is there anyone who's owned one of these specifically. I'd probably go for the 2 litre engine. Thanks -- Soupytwist !
