BMW 3 Series Coupe - Getting specialist to check over car before I buy 27 Aug 2011 (Forum)
It is no longer under BMW warranty. The dealer is just a man with a yard selling cars. There's no garage attached to the business and he doesn't offer a warranty with the car. For peace of mind I was thinking about getting a local BMW specialist to check the car over to see if they can find anything that's likely to go wrong. -
BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - 1999 3.0 530d Autobox Oil Change - hummmmm 15 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Hello all, after searching through loads of silly dedicated BMW site's where most the people do not really know what they are talking about I have returned to trust old Honest John. I 'stuck' with a horrid 530d 1999 BMW..... (recently moved to prague and this car was the guy how worked her before me, it was very cheap and due to all sorts of silly legal issue's of permits etc I bought it..... as soon as my permits are done.. over to german for nicer smaller Audi that does'nt look like the Titanic) Anway, the car is on 127K mile's.... besides a really frustrating A/c issue and a slight oil leak from the main crank oil seal she runs like a dream and goes like a train....it is 110% at crusing around Czech and German.... -
remote brake servos - 1981 bmw 635csi 7 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hi all, I drive a 1981 BMW 635csi which has an unusual brake circuit. As the car is RHD there was no room for BMW to fit a servo behind the brake pedal on this model so BMW opted to use twin remote servos instead. Each servo has a "line in" from the master cylinder and then one servo powers one (of two) pair of pistons on the front callipers and the other servo powers the other pair of pistons on the front callipers and the single pair of pistons on the rear callipers. -
BMW 325 TDS Remote total closure lockin 25 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I started a disscussion the other week about how I was thinking about buying a BMW 325 diesel. Well one come up close to me, and I only went to look out of interest. £1500 later I was the proud owner of a 1994 325 TDS SE with 170k. Think that was a good price? It is a bit high on the miles, but I'd heard these cars last forever! -
Lunatic on M1 6 Mar 2005 (Forum)
By this time I was close to the car in the middle lane and such a manoeuvre would have put us all in danger, so I accelerated, got in front of the car and then found the BMW driver trying to do the same thing, as I started to overtake the lorry that was now in front of me, in the middle lane. So I accelerated past the lorry. I have to say that I hadn't been travelling slowly at the time the BMW came up behind me (about 80 mph). -
Mercedes-Benz A-Class and similar - Premium hatchbacks…. 28 Aug 2024 (Forum)
I am in the nice position of looking forward to buying a virtually new premium hatchback. Shortlist is Merc A class, BMW 1 series and Audi A3. Are there any I’ve missed? Want an auto, preferably diesel and nice quality interior. Not a fan of small petrol engines so ruling out 1.3 and 1.5 engines in Mercedes and BMW. Audi 1.5 seems a better prospect as a petrol so not ruled out. -
BMW X5 (2016) - Mileage indicator for brake pads (front) replaceme 15 Feb 2023 (Forum)
My X5 (2016) had had 3100 miles until front brake pads replacement indicated on the dashboard for quite some time. Brought it for a regular servicing at BMW where front brake pads were confirmed to be at 7 mm. Immediately after I collected my car the same day, the reading changed to 1200 miles till replacement (ie minus almost 2K). And the mileage has been decreasing with the miles driven ever since (it stayed at 3100 for a long time). -
KIA Sportage BMW Honda Volvo etc - Dislike new cars 19inch wheels privacy windows 23 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I am looking at buying a new SUV type vehicle as more comfortable to enter and I like raised position. Looking at several different makes (Honda, Kia, Hyundai, BMW,Volvo etc,) it seems that unless you go for the basic model, there is rarely any option except to accept large often 18 or 19 inch wheels and skinny tyes. Thus less comfort than say 16 inch wheels and more risk of damage to tyre and wheel if hit a pothole. -

Audi, Land Rover, BMW etc make designers redundant 18 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Audi, BMW, Land-Rover, Jaguar etc are making car designers redundant. Apparently they are no longer needed. Any of the staff can now create a new model by just increasing or decreasing size. To differentiate between models the font and rear lights will be changed a little while acrease line along flanks will be moved, up, down, angled or delted to make side views distinct. -

BMW 520d SE auto tiptronic 2007 - 520d auto tiptronic juddering 20 Dec 2010 (Forum)
[endif]--> I have just purchased a 520d SE automatic tiptronic, 2007 June with 32K on the clock the car has been fully serviced at BMW and has an enhanced service package running for 5 years. When I run up to a stop say at traffic lights and leave it in "drive" there is a movement from side to side as if the engine is missing or somebody is pushing the car from side to side, it virtually stops if I put it in "Neutral". -

BMX 2004/04 X3 3.0 Sport - Towing a horsebox with a BMW X3 16 Mar 2010 (Forum)
There are lots of companies offering it and they all seem straight forward enough. I thought I would call BMW to check that a towbar wouldn't interfere with the parking sensors and just to check that adding a towbar is ok. They said it needs an up-rated cooling fan and want to charge me £1,900 to fit a towbar and a cooling fan. -
BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 02 330d rough idle/shuddering 3 Nov 2009 (Forum)
A fault has developed on my wife's BMW whereby when she is crawling to a halt (e.g. at a busy roundabout) or manoeuvring at slow speed the car shudders from what appears to be engine vibration. When the revs rise it goes away and it is intermittent in nature. -
BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - 99 2.8 Misty Eyed 30 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I have owned my 1999 E39 2.8 BMW from new and its 165,000 miles have been completed with few faults. It is still a great car. Of late however the headlights have been suffering from condensation between the plastic outer cover and the bulb / reflector inners.
