  • Mondeo poor fuel consumption 11 Dec 2006 (Forum)
and about 27(poor but acceptable) mpg. On the motorway it can be about 37-40mpg. Not the usual suspects of brakes binding, leaking fuel or blocked air filter. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
  • Multi vee belts - bmw 320d 14 May 2006 (Forum)
My 320d is approaching the 100k mark fairly soon and has had the coolant and brake fluid changed and it just struck me that the fan belt might be getting tired by now. I was wondering what life expectancy would you get from these?
  • Pug 306 and ZX parts common ??? 8 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Anyone know if the front suspension struts of a Pug 306 TD are interchangeable with a Citroen ZX TD. Have seen people saying the Citroen and Pugs are the same with the suspension, brakes, engine and transmission etc. Having problems finding a ZX in Dismantelers, but can find Pugs.

  • VW Passat 130 PD TDI 2002 7 May 2005 (Forum)
Rear brake light needs replaced. Found a plastic cover at rear of light cluster with a Tab. Do I just pull it off? Also, where can I get a home maintenance manual (like Haynes) for my Passat?
  • MOT for trailers 4 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Large numbers are driven around (not by members of the BR) on ancient tyres with flattened edges, and rusted up brakes. What is there to suggest that it is appropriate to let these things out on the road without being inspected annually?

  • Cars knowing why they crashed. 21 Mar 2004 (Forum)
While at an IAM meeting yesterday, the guest speaker, a leading firefighter of 14 years experience said that the police are trying to persuade firemen not to cut the battery cables on crashed cars. Apparantly, they can tell if the car was braking and what speed amoungst other bits of info. Is this true?
  • 95 Rover 414 steering 26 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Strange problem with my Rovers steering, I thought it sounded and felt like a loose power steering belt but noise happens most when I am braking and turning at the same time! Never experienced this on any other car that I have owned with a dodgy belt!
  • Polo/Passat rear pads 28 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I know that a special tool is required to screw in and retract the pistons on the rear disc brakes of some VW Polo's/ Passat's etc. I'd be grateful if someone could tell me whether this tool (which costs about £50) is strictly necessary or is there a DIY method of screwing the pistons in?
  • Omega Tramlining 3 Oct 2002 (Forum)

  • New Mondeo Alloys 15 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I am certain this will have been discussed elsewhere, reference other cars but I need to ask anyway. When I wash my car it appears much easier to clean the brake dust off the front wheels than the rear. Is there a different grade of pad used on the rear?
  • Focus tailgate / abs problem 29 Jul 2001 (Forum)

  • Should you give way on a slip road? 10 Dec 2018 (Ask HJ)

  • New Energy label for tyres 4 Mar 2012 (Forum)
    2) A symbol with the tyre and rain - a measurement of wet grip, to ensure manufacturers do not compromise on grip to acheive a get a good energy rating. The rating is based on wet braking in a straight line, carried out to a standard method on a controlled wet surface. Measurement is based on a standardised wet braking test. Industry analysts have estimated that using a set of grade A tyres over a set of grade G tyres, can result in a vehicle stopping in a 30% shorter distance.

  • Skoda Fabia Problems and Dealer Attitude 8 Apr 2004 (Forum)
after about 2 months the power steering failed. blamed ona faulty sensor, and fixed under warranty. after 3 months we found that after standing overnight the rear brakes bind, break free when reversing off the driveway with a clunk, and then make horrible gratin noises for a few miles. was told that this is \'normal\' due to the open construction of the brake system. this sounds like a load of rubbish to me, they are drum brakes, and i don\'t think they should do this. certainly haven\'t experienced it on my bikes or any other cars i have had.
