  • Change car or not? 21 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I've presently got a 98 s Xantia diesel with almost 110k. I need the car for regular 150 mile round trips to work. It could do with new spheres fairly soon and possibly a cambelt- I know the scheduled interval is 72k but I've read that the 2nd change should be sooner at around 36k to replace the tensioner.
  • Servicing costs at Ford Ind.Specialists 13 Oct 2003 (Forum)
These guys are independant Ford specialists, using Ford parts etc and have been around since the mid 1940's. The car was in for a main or as Ford call it a 'standard' service at 65000mls. Parts replaced were plugs, oil and all the filters( air, oil, pollen and fuel). Also replaced was a valve on one of the wheels that had a slow leak in it.
  • That Leon with its bonnet up... 26 Sep 2003 (Forum)
So if your 20Vt engine fails in this manner, make sure that your SEAT garage replaces all 4 coils so you don't suffer multiple inconvenience. They will do it. Same should apply to A3's, Golf's, Passats, Toledos, Bora's, Superb's etc...........
  • Unchanged cars 31 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Also, what is the longest a current car in production has gone without a change? Peugeot 206 goes back to S reg, any thoughts?? Incidentally, I thought the older Swifts looked nicer than the current ones with their huge black plastic bumpers!
  • Classic Motoring Embarrassments 20 Aug 2003 (Forum)
To start the ball rolling, In the 80\'s we had a Volvo 244DL auto. My mother was driving down to the westcountry and we noticed this loud rasping noise that seemed to follow the speed of the engine. My mother was very concerned and pulled into the next garage she came upon and asked the mechanic to take a look at this problem.

  • Scary Overtaking! 24 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Can anyone help? I have a Vauxhall Astra '98 S reg 1.6LS 8 valve which I am finding somewhat sluggish! I used to get my kicks from my Honda Fireblade which I have just sold to fund my first house - I can't afford to buy a faster car (doing the house up!)

  • Cars on TV 9 May 2003 (Forum)
Just been watching one of the numerous house programmes on TV(Channel 4's Selling Houses) and noticed the camera lingering for rather a long time on the Peugeot 607 driven by the presenter. If you watch Location, Location, Location you'll see them do the same with a Volvo XC90.

  • Punto transmission problem ? 14 Apr 2003 (Forum)
She had the car looked at and 'repaired' for this same problem (cost £120) 2-3 months ago but the problem has started again. She's in her 70's, knows less about cars than even I do and I don't want her to get ripped off so can anyone shed any light on what this might be. Thanks again.
  • To all Omega 2.5 TD owners 16 Mar 2003 (Forum)
What's the lowest price for a N/P/R/S-reg Omega CDX with the 2.5 BMW TurboDiesel at the moment? (I am willing to travel over the country to find a right car, my QX was 160 miles away. I am willing to buy from any source) Also, is manual or auto better with that engine?
  • Small school runner - recommendations? 26 Feb 2003 (Forum)
My wife's Meagane Scenic 1.6 RT Alize has reached 72,000 miles since we purchased new Aug 98 (S reg). Its just had its cambelt change and new discs/pads. It has FSH and has been properly valeted to eradicate the biscuit dust of 3 children. Just a few scuffs may drop the p/ex by perhaps £600. My wife wants something smaller (Fiesta?)

  • Space Saver Spare v. Tyre Weld. 29 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I view the prospect of having to use the Omega?s space saver spare with some trepidation, and with horror if caught out whilst towing. (we do a fair bit of long distance continental towing). I seem to remember hearing that some new cars don?t bother with a spare at all ?
  • Skoda Felicia Engine Questions 17 Nov 2002 (Forum)
The 1.6 and 1.9 D are all well proven VW units. What of the 1.3? I know some of them are Skoda-built, but are any of the later 1.3's built by VW? If so, how can you tell? Is there anything to be worried about about a 1.3 Skoda unit anyway? - I've heard they can suffer from head gasket problems. Thanks in advance
  • Overpriced Servicing 25 Oct 2002 (Forum)
What is the best course of escalation for over priced servicing. A colleague has recently had a Vauxhall Dealer service on a s-reg astra, and was quoted £2700 for a basic servive, MOT, plus extras such as clutch-adjust, replace headlamp etc. Once the big extras were removed from the scope of the work(clutch, headlamp) the bill was still £900 (400parts/500 labour) including such things as £35 for 'investigating' a poor quality radio (conclusion - upgrade it!)
  • 306 "Rattle" 5 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Hey all, More problems with my 306 DTurbo again!! There seems to be a rattle coming from the O/S front wheel area. It only happens when I dont have my foot on the throttle, eg slowing down or slowly cornering. I recently changed the driveshaft on that side because it had a lot of play in it and I thought that would be the source of the problem.
