'P' Reg Renault Laguna (2ltr Automatic) - Leaving work in heavy rain, switched on lights, fan and radio, central locking working fine, wipers, internal and external lights all fine... after about a hundred yards the fuel gauge dropped to 'nil' even though I have about half a tank on board.

  • Reliable cheap small auto 13 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Hi Guys I'm looking for some advice on reliable cheap small automatic cars. My other half is learning to drive in an automatic and is looking for a nice first car, golf size or under. The budget is under £2000. Can you offer any advice on which cars automatic gear boxes are long lasting, as well as general reliability?
  • Automatic Choke Problems (Fiesta) 23 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Dear All, I have a P Reg Ford Fiesta (1.3 EFi engine). It clearly has a problem with the automatic choke not opening properly since in the mornings, when cold, it runs like a dog, however once it's warmed up it's fine and drives very well indeed. Whilst the car starts OK, as soon as you put any stress on the engine it really dies, hardly accelerates until eventually enough fuel gets through and off she goes.
  • Best Automatic - Help Required 4 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hi I'm thinking of buying a brand new automatic for Mrs D. Criteria: 1:Max RRP 16k - We are assuming we will get a big discount, so the cheaper the car the better! 2:Must have a 5 start NCAP 3: Has to be as high as the Ford fiesta, or higher for that commanding driving position. 4: No bigger than the ford focus, Or smaller than the MB, A class. 5: Must be very reliable. 6: At least a 12 year corrision warranty. 7; Good handling.
  • Small Automatic Diesel 4 or 5 door 10 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I would appreciate your informed opinion on which are the best small, ladies cars, with an automatic gearbox, a Diesel engine, Air Conditioning and ease of entry and with a softish ride. I find that many Japanese cars (like the Jazz) ride like bricks. recommend. Why oh why, when the roads are so bad do the manufactures assume that we all have German bottoms and wish to corner on the door handles?
  • Ford Explorer automatic gearbox fault 31 Jul 2004 (Forum)
A Ford Explorer, that is may be 10 or so years old, has just had it's faulty automatic gearbox replaced with a brand new one. On a test drive it worked fine until the box got warmed up and then it stayed in drive and had to be braked to a halt juddering. Next day, it did the same again.
  • Automatic gearbox (cvt , easytronic) 12 May 2004 (Forum)
I'd like your advice about the durability and reliability of the cvt or easytronic gearbox. I want to buy an automatic supermini and my favorit ones are the Honda Jazz CVT and Opel Corsa 1.4 Easytronic. Does anyone know how many km can I expect them (the gearboxes) and especially the cvt to work properly? Does they need any special maintenance?
  • GM3000 Automatic gearbox problems 18 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I have a car with a GM3000 automatic gearbox in it. It started changing up through the gears very agressively, as though a turbo-charger had been fitted and max. thrust had been asked for! My wife refuses to go in it, it\'s that bad.....

  • DSG gearbox – jerky gear changes 3 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Had a drive in a Peugeot 3008 1.6 diesel fitted with a DSG box. Basically it is a semi-automatic. Have noticed the gear changes are a bit jerky. Is this normal? This is the first car i have driven with DSG gearbox. I expected smooth changes as per fully automatic gearbox.
  • 2007 Honda CR-V 4 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Quoting another place "Top dollar in the new range is the £28,075 being asked for the 2.2 i-CTDi EX with automatic transmission, Advanced Safety Pack, 19" alloy wheels and metallic paint." Can I assume they've got it wrong, and that Honda haven't developed a diesel automatic?
  • Freelander TD4 Automatic 9 Feb 2003 (Forum)

  • VW Golf - Automatic Transmissions 29 May 2016 (Forum)
The ideal replacement car for my wife would be a  VW Golf Automatic but having read so many "horror stories" from owners about the problems encountered with DSG transmissions we decided to locate and drive one ourselves and, yes, there was hesitation then "kangaroo jump" etc.
  • Modern Automatics 1 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I am planning on buying a new car sometime next year, probably a 2L diesel hatch, estate of one of these crossover things. I've been wondering whether to go for an automatic this time to save wear and tear on my aging knee joint! Back when I started driving in the seventies I had a couple of automatics of the 3-gear torque convertor type which proved thirsty compared to the manual versions.
  • A couple of Automatic gearbox issues 6 May 2007 (Forum)
How much is it going to cost him to repair it? (The car is worth about a grand.) 2. Honda Accord 98 R reg Automatic, 2.0 petrol, 108k miles. One of the automatic gearbox oil pipes came off one day, it was oil all over the place. We reconnected the pipe and put another clip on, pushed it to the side and added oil.
  • Automatic car for newly disabled wife 4 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I know this is an open topic but I need to move fairly fast as she is going demented with boredom as she literally can't walk more than 50 metres I suspect a second hand car will be more sensible as you seem to have to make new automatics a special order. Thanks
  • Vauxhall Calibra V6 Auto 4 Feb 2001 (Forum)
My 1998 Vauxhall Calibra V6 automatic has developed an intermittent gearbox fault. During cold weather, after the car has been standing for a while, when I start and attempt to select 'Drive' the auto warning light comes on and I am unable to use automatic gears, the car remains driveable via manual gear selection.
