  • Dead 306 any ideas? 5 Jan 2007 (Forum)
The garage suggested that I call the local council (Hammersmith and Fulham) who will take it away for free, however the cheapskate in me feels I should be able to get something for it! The car is a 1998 S reg Peugeot 306 1.4L 3 door in white (I know its not the most desirable of models!) with 70,000 on the clock. Its my first time posting but have read for a while so hopefully someone will be able to help.
  • Clio electrics...fob,radio etc 14 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I've got a 98 S reg 1.4 RT Clio with a couple of annoying problems. 1) Remote key doesn't work, I've changed the batteries but still no light on the key!! 2) Radio doesn't work, it lights up, so there is power getting to it but nothing happens when I try and switch it on!
  • Air con recharged but still not working 11 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Car: Daewoo Leganza S reg The air con on our car stopped working about two years ago and we have never bothered to get it fixed, but its so hot now, we decided to have a look round about fixing it. We have brought a R134a canister and tested the pressure, which was low.

  • Highway Code Do Not/Must Not 3 May 2006 (Forum)
I understand that "Must/Must Not" in the Highway Code identify legal requirements. Not so sure on the "Do Not"'s. The one in particular is: 218: DO NOT park partially or wholly on the pavement unless signs permit it. etc. Plod has been down our street putting warning notes under the windscreens of parkers with two wheels on the kerb.
  • '98 Astra 1.7TD estate - Front Strut £? 22 Mar 2006 (Forum)
My Astra failed MOT today (thankfully he found the worn ball joint which had been knocking for weeks, despite my usual garage declaring they didn't know where noise was coming from!). Amongst other things, the O/S front strut is disintegrating! Said he'd never seen one like it before - The flange which the base of the spring sits on is just crumbling away. Its booked in for replacement next week, but they couldn't give me guesstimate of price, as they usually only replace the shock insert, and need to shop around for the complete strut.
  • Advice needed !! Fiesta Shock Absorbers 2 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I have a 98 Ford Fiesta Ghia X 1.4 which I am looking to sell as I now have a company car. I recently had it MOT'd and it failed on a leaking o/s front shock absorber which will now need replacing. I am under the impression that you will need to replace the other front shock absorber otherwise the vehicle will feel imbalanced. As I am selling the vehicle I want to keep expenditure down as much as possible so I would like to know from anyone with any experience in this matter - is it really necessasry to get both front shocks replaced or can I get away with just the one done?.
  • Ford Ka Won't Unlock In Thru Boot Help! 9 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Hope someone can help. My girlfriend's 1997 Ka2's door locks will not open after she has locked it up, only way she can get in is thru the boot!! It seems to stem from the drivers side, she puts the key in but nothing, won't open although it WILL lock everthing up.
  • 2005 Toyota Hilux Invincible double cab 7 Feb 2006 (Forum)
This vehicle currently has the factory fitted Bridgestone Dueler 689 tyres 255/70/R15 however they are pretty much useless off road and are due for replacement soon anyway. I want to fit Goodrich TA KO?s tyres 50/50 road/off road, however to do that I would have to fit them on 16inch rims 235/70/R16. Apart from a possible problem with my insurance company, would they treat this as an unacceptable modification?
  • Peugeot 306 1.4 electrics gone crazy! 8 Jan 2006 (Forum)
My daughter's 1997/8 1.4 306's electrics are playing up again. The erractic idle was the coil pack as Screwloose suggested. The garage also replaced the fuel pump relay and idle control valve as that was apparently jammed. Last night the radio kept on cutting out, then the headlights flickered, instruments went from 0 to full scale but the engine kept on running fine.
  • Avensis 2004 Timing Belt 5 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I've just got a 2004 1.8 T3-S Avensis (petrol) and I'm trying to find the the recommended timing belt change interval. I don't think there's a Haynes manual out yet and theres some confusion at the dealership (they originally said it has a chain, but then changed their minds and said it has a belt as its the 2.0 that has a chain, and they would 'get back to me' on the interval) I'm guessing along the usual lines of 5 Years/60k maximum, but would be interested in anyone elses knowledge.
  • Peugeot 306 wiper blade length 1 Dec 2005 (Forum)
He bought the replacements from Halfords, and from reading other posts on here, it wouldn't surprise me if they're the wrong ones, although their book says they're correct. Can anyone confirm what length(s) they should be on an R reg Pug 306?
  • Relying on sat nav 28 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Needless to say, the manoeuvre hacked a couple of people off, but the driver seemed unfazed and continued stating ?must be a new one way, cos it?s not on the sat nav?. Is this sort of glitch common in sat nav? Anyone seen similar jaw-dropping behaviour from ?professional? drivers?
  • Drink driving ban 23 Nov 2005 (Forum)
A neighbour?s son has recently been banned for drink-driving. He received the statuary 12 month ban for a first offence, £800 costs and a fine of £800. At the time of the offence his mother was becoming seriously ill and in fact by the time the case came to court and he was banned she had died.
  • Volvo S70 vs S80 9 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Hi Everyone, I've been considering a Volvo S70 as my next purchase, with a budget of up to £7k(ish), S-plate or younger. However, I notice that S80s are now becoming available at around this price - possibly more 'leggy' examples - though that doesn't really put me off. Can anyone advise which they feel is the 'better' car?
  • Vauxhall Astra 2.0 Di CD (recall?) 30 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Just stumbled across this site and I bought a vauxhall astra last night its a 1998 S reg 2 litre diesel, CD Di 16V, anyhow i saw this on the car by car breakdown bit: 22-08-2002: 2,436 Astras VIN range WOLOTGF3522184592 to WOLTGF672BO14989 recalled because batch of brake calliper pistons may release hydrogen gas into brake fluid.
  • What 4x4 for £7k? 30 Sep 2005 (Forum)
It needs to be able to tow my 1500kg boat trailer, and a set of low ratio gears would be handy for pulling the trailer up slipways, across beaches etc. I also need plenty of space in the boot for my sailing gear, so the 4x4's I've thought of are Discovery, LWB Terrano, or the LWB Trooper. I've got access to a normal saloon car as well, so my annual mileage in the 4x4 won't be more than 15k a year. To be honest I'm not too fussed about toys or image, more concerned with getting something with the best chance of reasonable reliability.
  • Quietest - Primera, Mondeo or Passat? 30 Sep 2005 (Forum)
This car will be a work car (around 20k p.a.) so low cruising NVH, good handling and safety is key. The choices are all 2004; Primera 1.8 S 60k for £3,000; Mondeo 2.0 Ghia 70k for £4,500 and a Passat 2.0 SE 75k for £5,000. I am happy to go for the Primera because of the price but should I consider the Mondeo and Passat if I want a more calm environment?
  • Golf TDi 1.9 Ignition Failure 10 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Hi - can anyone offer any informed insights into why an S reg Golf TDI 1.9 would have ignition problems? It has run fine for the last few days (we only bought it a week ago from a policeman!) though on Sunday it took a couple of attempts to get the engine going.
  • X-1R oil treatment - anyone heard of it? 12 Aug 2005 (Forum)
It claims to reduce wear, increase performance, etc. It sounds good, but here's my thoughts: 1.It must have been developed in the 70's (when NASA started using shuttles), so why is it only now they're advertising it? 2.If its so good, why dont the big oil companies put it in their oil and tell everyone why their oil is now "better"?
