MINI MINI Cooper and S R56 (2007 - ) - 06 1.6 Another one loosing coolant 3 May 2010 (Forum)
All has been fine but now the level has dropped again . No Mayo in the oil but coolant does look discolored. Is this looking like a head gasket failure? car has only covered 25 k miles, if it is im gutted that a modern car with such low milage and full service history should fail like this. Car is now out of warenty. Is there a known problem with theses gaskets? -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 What could be causing this noise ? 11 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I own a 1999 Ford Focus (petrol engine) which has covered 80k miles. I feel that I need advice on how to tell if the noise I think I can hear coming from somewhere from the car is due to a coolant pump, alternator or power steering pump problem e.g. worn bearings. -
Honda Civic IMA hybrid (2003 - 2005) - 03 1.4 What car is this based upon? 5 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I would like to get a Haynes manual for simple things like i have a blown bulb behind the speedo which i would like to replace, but cannot work out how to remove. Haynes Uk were unable to help, and Honda said it would not help as I should take my car to a main dealer for everything. I know none of the electric wizzy stuff will not be covered, but surely the running gear, interior etc must be from another civic. Thank in advance for any help. -
Audi A3 Sportback (2004 - ) - 2007 1.6 Restless ride 5 Jun 2008 (Forum)
My 6 months old Audi A3 1.6 special edition automatic has what I can only describe as a restless ride, which is very tiring. To date the car has covered less than 2k miles because it is uncomfortable to use. The car I test drove at a local dealer had a firm but steady ride and, I have owned 3 VW's before this so I am used to a firmer ride quality. -
Do you fettle / furtle with a new car? 4 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Does anyone else spend a couple of hours fettling / going over a new car when they get it home? I put my hand up, I'm a fettling addict ... I'm not happy until I've had the bonnet up, engine cover off and gone round all the hoses, clips etc to make sure all joins and connections are snug, secure and properly joined. -
Insurance for 17 year old 6 Mar 2008 (Forum)
My 17 year old son is currently taking driving lessons and I'm trying to organise some insurance for one of the family cars (both for pre- and post-test driving). Assuming a Fiesta 1.25 finesse (wife's car) any experience on the cheapest company? I know that there are comparison sites, but I also know that they do not cover many of the specialist insurers. -
Volvo S40/V40 (1996 - 2004) - 1.9D Cambelt 6 Jan 2008 (Forum)
They've said that if it was a part failure, then we are covered by parts warranty, but have now said that an oil pump seized ! Convenient! Many cars don't drop valves, etc, when a belt goes & I'm trying to find out if this is the case with the V40? Any other advice would also be useful, especially as I may be arguing the case with the dealership. -

406 HDI Timing Belt 16 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I am looking for some help on the timing belt for a peugeot 406 hdi. I have just bought this car and as partof the deal the dealer said he would change the timing belt. Not trusting car sales men the first thing I did when I got the car home was to remove the timing belt cover and have a look. -
Brussels to Gelsenkichen. 10 Jul 2006 (Forum)
So. 1. Advice on car hire from Brussels. 2. Best route, alternative routes. Keep it simple as he is a poor navigator. 3. He has TomTom 500? but not sure if it covers his route. Which maps? 4. IIRC They have never driven on the continent. -
Cheap, reliable new diesel car 16 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I am looking to take on a new salesman for my business at the moment and will need a car for them as they will cover the whole country. My first instinct is to go an lease a Mondeo TDCi but as I haven't been trading long and don't have audited accounts yet leasing at reasonable cost would be tricky, so really I'm going to have to buy it. -
Car change 7 Mar 2004 (Forum)
My wife will not even consider a Mondeo but we need this size of car, preferrably a diesel. Any recommendations would be welcome. (I am looking at a new Mazda 6 later today, any good?) -
Internal Corrosion VW Golf Mk4 4 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Is it possible for antifreeze vapours to circulate in the car over a period and cause rust/coorosion damage. Corrosion is worst at passenger side. Rear seat has also suffered from burst stitching and foam dissolving beneath coverings. Or, is this looking like flood damage, what do i check for? -
Shock absorbers - Nissan Primera 30 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I think my 1995 Primera is running on the original dampers. It has covered 95,000 miles. I have owned it from 65,000 so I can\'t be 100% if they have been replaced or not. The car no longer feels \"right\" and I suspect the dampers are to blame. On examination the springs look fine and there are no leaks from the dampers. -
Mondeo hesitation and noise on start up 25 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Hello to forum, a couple of months ago I had a cambelt change on my 2.0l petrol Mondeo (143000m). Although the Ford main dealer entrusted to the job took two days to do the job(!)the car was picked up and seemed ok. A few weeks ago I noticed a scratchy type noise on startup only (Sounds like cambelt catching cover?) and the car now hesitates when first starting off in first and under acceleration. -
Our unjust driving laws. A rant. 2 Nov 2002 (Forum)
My friend jsut narrowly escaped wwith her life because she crashed into a tractor with its lights on as brightly as possible. Many car drivers choose to 'forget' they have their main beam switched on on quiet country roads. Many car drivers seem to pull out onto a main road where it would only be safe to do so if their car had a 0-60 of nanoseconds. -
New Astra Paintwork 5 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I have a new "51 reg" Astra SXI Turbodiesel in metallic black, Ive only done 5000 miles and already the leading edge of the bonnet is peppered with small stone chips, right through to the undercoat which is pale grey. The car had to be repaired after a neighbour collided with the front wing one saturday morning, so I mentioned these stonechips to the dealer, asking the bodyshop to repair them whilst they had the car. It lnow looks as though they have used a Black Marker pern to cover them ! -
Scary Moment 4 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Would the temporary loss of traction, assuming both wheels lost contact with the road surface - albeit very briefly - be enough to trigger the ABS? The car is a 2001 Mondeo, just having covered 1000 miles and up to now problems free - mechanically that is. -
Kia eniro - Warranty on EV charging cables. 22 Dec 2022 (Forum)
Recently our power cable stopped working. When we spoke to our dealer they said it would be covered under warranty. Excellent. However for the warranty on the cable to be activated the car would have to go in for a service and the soonest we could have a service would be 6 weeks time. -
Deposit advice sought! 18 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Last weekend I paid a £400 deposit against a £4000 BMW 318d Estate (negotiated down from £4300) with a view to collecting it today. The dealer is now telling me that since paying the deposit, the car has a clutch problem & may need a new clutch & flywheel, he's offering to refund the deposit, but I get the impression he's now trying to wriggle out of the sale so that he can re-list it at a higher price to cover the cost of the work that will have to be done.
