Volkswagen Polo III - Fully comp- Insurers won't pay due to light turned 8 Sep 2011 (Forum)
My dad fixed my break pads last year for the m.o.t and it passed no problem, he did however switch off the brake warning light as it would not turn off whatever he tried. The insurance company are telling me they will not pay out due to the light being switched off even though they tell me my brakes are perfectly fine. -

Pikes peak 27 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Due to lack of oxygen (they think) at high altitude the turbo on his Fiesta exploded (at the time he was blitzing the course record) and filled the car with smoke, he pressed on with 4 km to go using left foot braking to keep what engine revs he had up, and when he finally completed the course, the overheated brakes caused the tyres to explode in flames. He came second in class Here is one of the the highest quality (sound and picture) motorsport clips I have seen on youtube of gronholm on the peak (not the actual race it seems, probably setting pace notes, but none the less its stunning film) http://www.youtube.com/watch? -

Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 05 2.0Tdci Engine Management/Fuel Problem 4 Dec 2008 (Forum)
This also happens sometimes when the engine is turned on after refuelling. 2. Sometimes when driving along (either cruising or accelerating) all revs vanish and the engine brakes slowing the car rapidly, almost like emergency braking. This can be quite disconcerting and dangerous particularly when there is a vehicle close behind. It seems to happen for no apparent reason. This is then followed by a period when the car drives roughly for a while. -
Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 2001 1.5dci - ABS light intermittantly on and off. 29 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Parking a nightmare and due to the lake of mud in car park, had to be towed out of field by a tractor. Resultant mud in the wheel arch, suspention mounts and brakes was severe. All has been cleaned now but the ABS warning light has been going on and off intermittently. I can feel a slight decrease in feeling from the brakes but overall efficiency seems fine. A) is this anything to worry about B) can it be fixdd by myself...if so how & C) would such problems cause terminal problems with the ABS system? -
Ford Fiesta (2000 - 2002) - 01 1.3 Cost of repairs for failed MOT 23 Jul 2008 (Forum)
How much can I realistically get the repairs done for? The garage I went to quoted £76 for the brake pipe and £206 to have the bushes done. I plan to ring around to get the best deal I can when I have an idea of how much it should be costing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -
Volvo - 00 T5 Auto Box Problem 9 Mar 2008 (Forum)
When I first had the car, the battery was flat and I jumped start it and it started at first turn. Then on the dashboard, the Brake warning light, Traction control light ,ABS light and ENGINE light stay on and it says "brake system failure" on the trip computer. I started to drive the car and everything seem Ok. The car pull well and gearbox kicked down as it should. -

Problems with Rover 75 6 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Clunking on the front suspension, think it is coming from the drivers side..was like this last year and seems not to have got any worse. Only notice it when going over rough broken surfaces. 2. Rumbling noise when I brake, has all new pads front and back and the discs are still ok, this seems to be coming from the back brakes 3. Although not going to fail its MOT on it but the engine rattles at 3000rpm under full load up to around 4000. -
Audi A3 - steering knock & scored discs 10 May 2005 (Forum)
I don't want to keep going back and forwards - any clues? A second point on this - any other A3 owners feel their brake discs are scored? Mine feel ribbed, and they grind under braking as if they have surface rust (they don't). I've looked at other used A3s on the forecourt - all the same. Anyone any experience? How's the life of your pads and discs? -
306 MOT Failure 8 Aug 2003 (Forum)
But it failed on: Near side front C.V. boot split Off side rear shock absorber mounting bottom bushes (extra movement) Parking brake isn\'t very effective Extra travel on parking brake lever Please forgive me if all that sounds a bit weird, but its what the guy wrote down on the failure slip (hand writing was a bit hard to read) Its a nice 306XL L Reg, 106000 on the clock. -

Automatic-transmission problems 22 Dec 2002 (Forum)
MB 320 Is there an auto guru out there who recognizes these symptoms: * On four occasions during a 200-mile trip, the engine revs surged before the transmission engaged properly, at which point the car moved onwards with a bit of a jolt. On each occasion, I had braked for a roundabout and then started off again; I don't think I came to a complete halt on any of these occasions. * Later: This has happened again, on each occasion after firm braking and while resuming acceleration without stopping. -
MOT TOm-foolery. 16 Nov 2002 (Forum)

70 mph speed limit 18 Jul 2001 (Forum)
The 70 mph speed limit on motorways is so far out of date. A few years ago I had the misfortune to own a Morris Marina 1.3, the brakes were so bad, it took slightly less than one bank holiday weekend to stop it. The handling was appalling bouncing all over the road,it was lethal at 70 mph. Todays cars with their superior braking systems and handling characteristics are far far safer at this speed. -
Mercedes E230 spare wheels. 30 Jan 2001 (Forum)
Mercedes only supply a steel spare, which is thinner than the alloys. Fitting the steel spare using the same bolts also damages the brakes because they are now too long. Again this is covered in the handbook, and shorter bolts are supplied. But really! Please warn all Mercedes owners of this obvious design fault.
