  • VW 505 01 oil in B4 engines? 13 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I run three turbo diesels, one needing VW505 01 and two French motors which specify B4 oil. Am I right in thinking that VW505 01 oil is a tougher spec than B4 and I therefore only need to keep one oil in the shed, namely a fully synth 505 01 spec and use it in all three engines on a 6k change cycle?
  • Starting trouble - VW Passat 1995 30 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Hello everyone, My 1995 petrol Passat has become very difficult to start from stone cold. Crank and crank then a cough and nothing. Again and again. Eventually it starts, runs rough, and is then fine. When warm it starts fine. Have replaced the water temp sensor. But this has not cured it. Any thoughts out there? I am thinking of replacing the coil next. Thanks for any tips
  • 1996 Ford Galaxy Starting Problem... 20 Jan 2007 (Forum)
A local mechanic told him it's a common thing with these, the CRANKSHAFT PULLEY wears so much that when turning the engine over the pulley's wear actually puts the timing out????? When towed started it runs lovely so can this be true? Pls help....thx
  • Cars 'Settling' 3 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I don't just mean the suspension either as that is obvious - I took mine out after a week parked uphill on the drive (It goes up then down onto the road) and the creaks from the interior as the chassis flexed slightly were quite noticeable! Also, everything definitely felt better after a run, especially the steering and gearbox.
  • Rally of Wales gone soft? 2 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I note that the forthcoming rally has 230 miles of competitive driving over 17 stages and lasts for three days. In 1985 it had 570 miles and 63 stages over four days. Group B cars were running, it was a true test of the drivers and cars and was a superb event to follow. It seems to me the present WRC is pretty tame in comparison. Are there any forms of motosport that haven't become softer, slower, easier and more boring to watch?

  • KIA advert crashes IE7 23 Nov 2006 (Forum)
The Kia Motors advert started consistently crashing IE7 this morning. (All ok when Nissan advert was displayed). Investigation showed I was running version 7 of Flash as an extension to IE7 and removing that and then installing latest version (9) cured all problems. May save some people some time. You may like to move to Computer IHQ after this has been seen by a few people. -- pmh (was peter)
  • Yorkshire to Dover Thursday evening/Frid 30 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I am going to france on Friday Morning. Need to be in dover at 7am, so I thought a nice overnight run should avoid all the usual congestion. Then someone said something about the A2 being closed overnight ? Is there something I need to worry about or can I assume that setting off round midnight will get me there with lots of time to waste.
  • Mazda 6, due for facelift??? 17 Oct 2006 (Forum)
He is quite keen on getting a Mazda 6 but he has heard that this model is coming up for a facelift soon and is a little cautious. He asked me, but I don't really pay much attention to news about new cars (I prefer to run older cars), so thought I'd ask you guys. TIA CItivanvin
  • Nil HC & CO MOT emissions readings 2 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Admittedly the 2005 read out showed only small amounts - same garage. The only difference is the engine has been run on Shell Optimax & now V Power for nearly 12 months.

  • Mains Battery charging 11 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I have a heavy duty 12v tractor battery that has been allowed to run flat. When I put it on a mains battery charger the casing of the battery becomes very warm to hot even on a trickle charge. Is this normal or is the battery beyond recovery? Is their any simple way to know if the battery will hold a charge long term?

Hello everyone I've recently bought a 51 plate vectra 2.0dti club and it has run in just over 61k miles. I'm thinking this is the time to get the timing belt changed, but someone mentioned to me that this model of car uses a chain therefore it wont need any belt change. Can anyone clarify if this is definitely the case with the model of car that I have bought.
