  • Holiday Handbrakes 23 May 2005 (Forum)
Off on holiday for two weeks tomorrow. I normally put the car on the drive, in gear, with the handbrake off. Is it really necessary to do this. Had a few occassions of the handbrake sticking in the past.
  • The happy thread 22 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Clear road, sunny but not over-hot, Korngold film music on the stereo. Bliss. Has anyone else enjoyed a drive recently?

Perhaps your roundabout problem was caused by an American tourist: the Dept of Foreign Affairs in Washington issues information on driving outside the US. Among this is the admonition to familiarize oneself with "traffic circles"

  • Help Required with New Car Options Please 23 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Of course, I have been spoilt by the mini with the driving experience and so found the Jazz a bit lacklustre so this is why I am tempted by another Civic which is full of almost all the (let's face it) toys I want and I enjoy driving but is not as economical to run.
  • Renault Clio 1.5 DCI - A noise coming from my car while driving 11 Sep 2011 (Forum)
But my friend thinks it's loosing power or not reaching it's peak but it's hard to tell with the noise we can here while driving, I also need to change the front wheel bearings, by the way can I do this my self, im a novice who sometimes likes to have a go.     Anyway back to the noise, it is hard to describe sort of a vrrrrrrrrrrrrm and then fades at lower revs.
  • Renault Clio 1.5 Dci - A noise coming from my car while driving 8 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I usually get around 60 odd mpg but recently on a long journey, or even shorter ones it has dropped about 10 mpg. Also this noise appears while driving after certain revs. My friend reckons there is an air leak or something near the Turbo. I have no excessive smoke coming from the back, as I have read the horror stories and the Turbo is kicking in, plus it does not look that old, maybe it was replaced before I had the car.
  • Renault Clio 1.5 DCI - A noise coming from my car while driving 8 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Hi there at first during wet and damp conditions, my fan belt would make a squeely squeeky noise and when after driving it would quieten down. It did it again the other day but after a while the sound changed and I can't seem to figure out where it is coming from. My timing belt was changed last year and I have covered around 6k miles since then.

  • Second hand car choice - first time buyer. 10 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Hello everybody, I've just got a new job in Surrey and it's going to involve a fair bit of driving so I need to get myself a car. • Toyota Avensis Verso (2001 - 2006) - 03 2.0 Seperating drive shaft from CV 15 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I phoned today to see if it was back and the motor factor informed us the company who do this had to send it back that they could not recondition it as they could not get the joint off the drive shaft. The plan had been to take the reconditioned driveshaft up to our friends get it fitted and get the car back home obviously this is not going to be the case. Although this might not be a big deal to others its absoutely traumatising me i'm in floods of tears stressed out as to what to do now we have been told in order to get a brand new drive shaft you can only get them from toyota and it'll be £600 not including any labour.
  • Citroen Saxo (1997 - 2003) - 1999 1.4. Constant Issue driving me mad. 9 Nov 2007 (Forum)
d start the ignition and it?d drop below 1000 and cut out- this got gradually worse over time- I could drive it if I revved it hard. Took it to the garage and the head gasket had gone. That set me back £500 and everything looked sorted until about 2 weeks later it started cutting out again, whenever I?d slow down at traffic lights/slip roads it?
  • Corsa 1.0 Power Issues 25 Mar 2006 (Forum)
The engine ran much smoother and performance was down - i thought this was maybe just the ecu needing to adjust itself to the new sensor. Driving home from the place (a good hour or so drive) performance was down all the way, possibly due to a 40mph head wind so i didnt let it bother me but i decided to go out of my way to drive through a busy town centre to see if the stuttering was still there.
  • A bad experience at VW today 25 Feb 2005 (Forum)
The A1 is about 15 minutes away. No way was the answer. Very fed up at this point, decide not to buy this car there and then so drive back to dealers. Why? We'd been kept waiting 20 minutes even though we'd made an appointment, the car was in a state my manual says to avoid for fear of causing serious damage and I was not going to be allowed to drive it properly.
  • Old Polo v New Polo 12 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Three words that describe the new one: stodgy, square, granny. Complete opposites these two! The new polo is just too big and feels absolutely huge to drive, yet inside it feels cramped. It sounds like a diesel when you start it up and driving it is like driving an armchair. I've read HJ's roadtest for this car and he seems to think the opposite, so it's possible I have a dud one, or that it hasn't got going yet as it only had 5 miles on the clock when I picked it up.
  • has your car done you proud? 26 Jun 2003 (Forum)
One day I had a skip (midi size- ones about the size of your normal car) and the driver could not steer the truck into my drive so left it of the left hand side of my drive gate. Then surprise-suspire, within microseconds, the said neighbour comes out saying that in order for him to get into his drive he has to ?bank? on the side of the road on my drive to get clearance on his entrance and that the skip was blocking his way although the skip was on my side of the road!!.

Why is the ride so harsh on the 2019 Sandero and can anything be done to improve it? Driving on cobble stones feels like the dashboard is going to shake loose.
