RDS car radio clock 1 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Can any of you well-informed guys help me out? On a day trip to France the other day the RDS clock on my radion automatically set itself to european time; but it has notably failed to re-set itself on return to the UK. The BBC web site SAYS that they broadcast a time signal on RDS, so why aren't I picking it up? -
Highmileage better than low? 17 Apr 2001 (Forum)
Most of my miles were done on the motorway in the first 2-3 years of its life. All my father's miles were done locally except for holidays in France towing a caravan. Is it necessarily a good swap. Both cars are on the original clutch. -
2006 Peugeot 307 SW 2.0 HDI 136 RHR 6 speed box - Clutch pedal springy at bottom of travel 19 Apr 2025 (Forum)
I don't want to change the clutch only to find the issue isn't resolved. The clutch works fine but I'm about to do a 1500 miles trip in France visiting the my wife's family and don't want to get stranded without all the tools to change the clutch (breakdown cover only covers a repatriation up to the market value so the car would end being sc***ped in France). -
Why am I paying for other people's pollution? 5 Apr 2021 (Forum)
Shipping and Aviation seem to escape the regulations on climate change. How can it be eco-friendly to ship goods 5000 miles from France to China for processing into flooring and then returned to the UK with another 5,000 miles. This is wrong on so many levels. Wood is a heavy material. Why can't it be processed in Britain?. -
Nail In Tyre & Other Issues 12 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Just returned from holiday to Andorra & week trolling round France. 2004 x type diesel, 2400 miles, 55 mpg, used no oil, now done 163,000 miles. Temp gauge mostly at 1/4, got up to 1/2 climbing the Pyrenees in 34 deg outside temp. Pretty pleased with a car that is worth effectively £1k-zero. -
Volvo V70 - Volvo V70 or Accord Tourer 30 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Hi All I have a Volvo V70 D5 SE (2002) which I think is excellent but I live in France and am soon moving back to the UK so will need a RHD instead of a LHD. I'll be doing reasonable mileage on all sorts of roads plus at least a couple of trips to Southern France with 2 dogs and, normally, some kind of furniture and luggage so motorways are important. -
Bad diesel???? 24 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Questions are: Does the premium fuel have anything that could cause this? (unlikely). Is it likely that normally nobody else will pay such an extortionate price in France for diesel and this fuel has been sitting in storage for months? and become contaminated? Did anybody else stop at this service station and fill up from the same pump (First on rhs) on Monday at about 12.30? -
From Today's Private Eye 4 May 2002 (Forum)
Verdier, a transport ministry official, was speaking about a driving test system that was introduced in parts of France last year, and may soon become nationwide policy. "Attacks on examiners are common here, because most candidates fail their driving test first time. It?s not unusual for them to take it eight or ten times before they pass, and many French people don? -
My Recent Driving Trip to France 17 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Just back from an eventful driving holiday in France and thought I would share some observations, experiences etc. This is probably my 5th or 6th driving holiday to France and, being brutally honest, most of the enjoyment of France itself is rapidly diminishing. -
SsangYong Korando - Average driving Speeds 23 Jan 2024 (Forum)
Average speed was 19 mph over the past 1500 ish miles which yesterday included a fast as legally possible drive to France including a nice fast bit on the Autoroute. 85 in the Korando is plenty fast enough for me most of the time... Traffic congestion in Essex is as bad as I have evr seen it. -
Switch for swapping headlights for driving abroad 26 Nov 2021 (Forum)
So far shortlisted a volvo v60, merc b class and honda civic (thanks in part to these forums). My wife is French and typically we go over to France a couple of times a year. I seem to remember reading that some cars have a switch that modifies the angle of the headlight beam. Is this right or is this something I dreamt? If such a scheme does exist which cars offer this? -
Any - Have I been blacklisted .... ? 6 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I apologize if I've attempted to post the same item three times (yesterday & today) - perhaps I used a banned word (such as "France"!) ... but each time the posting has appeared briefly, but isn't there when I go back to the main board listing. Doctor, doctor, people keep ignoring me .... next patient please. -
Renault Lagina Nevada Estate 1997/98 - Rear windscreen wiper arm 1 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I have been trying to get hold of a rear windscreen wiper arm without success. I found one on ebay but they don't deliver to France where I live - have also searched french websites. My question is does anyone definitely know if there is a substitute wiper arm (maybe from a later Laguna) which will also fit my car. -
Fiat Barchetta 1998 - boot release stuck 24 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I have a Fiat Barchette (early 1998) and have a problem - the boot release (which is by cable from a lever in the car) has stopped working. It is EITHER... -
Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class, Peugeot 307sw - Insurance 14 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Both these cars are lhd as we have just returned from living in France. We have the maximum 50% discount on French insurance but as we will be spending 7/8 months a year from now on in the uk we would like to get uk insurance. Does anybody know of an insurer who will take into account our previous French insurance history or do we have to swallow high premiums from the outset? -
Volvo V60 - Sanef Tag. Where to place on the windscreen 27 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Hi I have a Sanef Tag for use on the peage roads in France. The instructions say to place on the mottled area behind the review mirror otherwise the metalic coating on a heat reflectant windscreen means it will not work. However this area is taken up by the plastic housing of the City Safe sensor, so no mottled area. -
Mazda 6 (2004) - headlights 4 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I have never used this function but fear it could be the cause of Mot test failure or ControlTechnique as it it is called here in France. -
Insurance rip-off 24 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Just arranged insurance for a week in France. £32. I paid £46 for a month in the summer with the same insurer. When I queried it, I was told that each trip attracts an "admin fee" of £17, "to cover the cost of printing the documents". Plainly that's nonsense - although I accept there will be some cost, 17 quid is silly. -
Jaguar X-Type (2001 - 2009) - Snow chains 24 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Couple of points, I am taking my xtype 3 litre awd to france for a ski trip, it has the 225/45 y r17 wheels, in the owners manual it says not to fit snow chains to them, only the 16 inch wheels can have chains, what should i do risk it and not have them? Also as it is a awd do it need to put chains on all 4 wheels? -
peage Tags where do i get one? 18 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I would appreciate some advice on where to purchase a toll tag for france. I haven't bothered for the last 16 years but it sounds rather appealing. I have gone to various web sites that have appeared on this section before but have been unsucessful in obtaining a tag. I don't have a French bank account & would just like to pay by card.
