Reliable and fun to drive for £4k? 23 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I don't want to spent more than £4k and I'd like a car which meets the following criteria: 1. Reliable 2. Reasonably satisfying to drive 3. Not much wider than the Golf (5'6") as I have a narrow garage 4. Unlikely to get nicked - it will be spending a lot of time in station carparks. Having looked in HJ's car by car breakdown and at the Parkers guide my shortlist is Corolla, Civic, Almera. -
Bad Driving 15 Oct 2003 (Forum)
The Espace came within inches of hitting me and I got a blast of the horn. What I want to know is, why do some drivers not THINK when they are driving instead of going onto auto pilot. The junction is signposted futher about 200-300 yards before hand, with a warning triangle. This driver should have seen this and thus expected some form of hazard from this junction (if that makes sense!). -
VW Self Diagnosis 20 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I do not want to know what these codes are, but I am fascinated to know what type of areas these codes cover, and just what the car is doing as I drive it. Is it constantly checking everything about itself? The screenshots show messages about voltages being too high, or faults with the horn. I also understand, from the drivers handbook, that the engine management software adjusts parameters to match the drivers driving style. -

Golf mk3 cuts out after going through puddles 5 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I know you're a busy man, but I'd appreciate some help. I've got a '94 Golf CL 1.4 5dr which goes as well as you expect it except when I'm driving over standing water. It'll stand forever under torrential rain, and still start first time every time, but you drive over any kind of deepish puddle, and within seconds, it'll just fade away. Leave it half an hour, and it's dried out enough to start again. -

Insurance warranties 8 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Hi, this is the gist of a Q I posed to HJ who suggested that I pose it in the Backroom : I've had quotes from Warranty Wise and Drive Assured (Warranty Holdings, part of Ford), both found via links from autotrader.co.uk, for my May 1991 registered Audi 100 Avant 2.2L petrol Turbo (seems like a very rare combination of engine & body). -
Received MG4E postal requisition for section 172 8 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Hi everyone, Some background...I received a NIP (within 14 days) relating to a speeding offence committed late July 2015, having genuinely no idea who was driving at the time as myself and my partner regularly take day trips to various skateparks accross the Southeast (2-4 per week - at the time we were both temporarily unemployed). I replied to the NIP stating that I could not remember who was driving but that it would either be myself or my girlfriend and asked for photographic evidence in order to ascertain who was driving at the time and from reading this site I also included her contact details, I also mentioned that (in an attempt of "reasonable diligence") I had spoken to my girlfriend and she could not recall who was driving, I had phoned the manager of a petrol station that I know we often refuel at, in order to ask for CCTV footage of the day the offence was commited so that if we did happen to fill up there on that day then we could see who was in the drivers seat, as the location of the speed camera is about 2 miles from this station, so if we filled up there then the person driving off the forecourt would have been driving at the time of the camera flash. -
