  • 306 d-turbo smoke 30 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Also it doesn't feel quite as quick as it once was... doesn't always have the same kick when the turbo cuts in but sometimes does. I've changed the glow plugs, done all the usuall oil and filter changes and it's just had a new battery. One odd thing I noticed was that one of the old glow plugs either had a build up of carbon around it or it had expanded (Swolen up) in one place. Imagine a pen with a ruber band wrapped around it several times and overlapping itself... well the outline of the plug was the same as the outline to that pen (Hope that makes sense) Cheers Jim
  • throttle position sensor voltage. 5 Aug 2003 (Forum)
t want to buy a new tps unnecessarily. Has anyone had a similar experience? (The car has single point injection. Voltage across the battery, and at the other sensors seems normal. The ECU has been tested OK and the car has had new plugs, leads, lambda sensor and secondhand coil. The Cat has also been recently replaced).
  • Caravan Gross Laden Weights 26 May 2003 (Forum)
Can anyone point me towards any regulations or laws which specify correct procedures ? Incidentally, at a third weighing after I had removed gas bottles, battery, stored water, bedding, drinks and clothes, my caravan was still some 10% over weight according to police calculations ! Regards Martin Scane
  • 306 Dturbo starting 17 May 2003 (Forum)
Not starting until the plug light has been off for a few seconds used to help reduce smoke. It has new plugs / battery at 50k at a Pug dealer and this helped a bit but now no matter how long I wait after the light goes out it pumps out loads of smoke. Can anyone help?. Could it be the cambelt replacement b4 I got it was done wrong?.
  • Yes, I know, I know (Clio) 3 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Oh and the AA patrol that dragged me in thought it was the starter motor; the garage got a new one, fitted it and burned it out taking the battery with it. Where do I stand with that? I'm not the happiest bunny today. Lee. PS - Yes, I know, I know I've been warned about Clios before. But it's only done 37k, properly serviced, didn't expect this!
  • Diesel heater plug bodge 3 Jan 2002 (Forum)
So, having tested the heater plugs on the Toyota and narrowed the problem down to one of the two control boxes, I simply bolted an old Lucas starter solenoid under the bonnet, ran a thick cable from the battery to the relay, then another cable to the heater plugs. The solenoid is operated by a push switch on the dash. To start from cold, push the switch and hold in for 10 seconds. Then turn the ignition key while still pushing the switch.
  • Peugeot 307 Glx 16V (2003) - Anti-pollution warning light 2 Apr 2024 (Forum)
I did a bit of online research and there was a youtube video which seemed to suggest that removing and cleaning the timing control solenoid valve might help, and also changing the 02 sensor. Any advice most welcome! (I am no mechanic but have changed the battery and lights myself in the past - so happy to get my hands dirty to an extent as long as it doesn't involve potentially electrocuting myself or taking the engine apart!).
  • Renault Kangoo 1.4 diesel 2012 - Van electrics went off whilst driving, engine was 3 Jan 2024 (Forum)
Hi hope to get some advice please, my van battery was flat over this winter so I purchased one of those power pack jump starts from amazon. It worked and got me going. Then two weeks after I was driving and electrics went off, engine was still running I wasn't far from home so managed to get it back home even though power steering went off.
  • BMW 323 - Bought car - misled ? Advice please 8 Jul 2023 (Forum)
The roof upholstery is in very poor condition, but was juat stated the interior needs a good clean. 2. Omitted The lack of a wing mirror 3.The lack of a battery to start the car. 4. A previous colour change. 5.A large hole present in the boot floor. However, I sent photos to a few independent restoration garages and they have pretty much declined to restore it as they say it's not financially viable and the costs would way exceed the value of the car.
  • Renault Clio - Fuel gauge incorrect 28 Aug 2022 (Forum)
In the past, I have been running low and I have but £10 in just to get me to a supermarket and the gauge doesn't move, so maybe this issue will be something similar and it will sort it self out. if I run the fuel tank low.   I have read about disconnecting the battery and it will reset everything, but need a code to set everything up.   Any thoughts   Regards and thanks for any help
  • Mazda 6 Tourer - 2.2d Auto - Cold Start Problem 6 Jan 2022 (Forum)
This now happens every time I start the car from cold. Once the car has been running and the engine is warm it starts fine. I thought is might be battery related, but I changed it about 2 weeks ago and I still have the issue. Any thoughts? I was thinking glow plugs or fuel pump. I was thinking injectors, but the car starts fine when warm which is the opposite of what I have read.
  • Astra radio not coding 27 Nov 2020 (Forum)
I recently bought a used Vauxhall Astra and after some work involving disconnecting the battery, I needed to re code the radio. Using the code I got with the vehicle, I tried four times without success to re activate the radio. After some digging around, I found the set had been upgraded from a CAR 400 to a CDR 500.
  • Mazda 2 - Stick or twist? 28 Sep 2019 (Forum)
It was bought outright in 2010 for £7495 with  33k miles and has been reliable, with yearly servicing and just a few suspension parts and a pulley wheel replaced. It's on its original exhaust, battery, clutch etc. Yearly mileage around 7k. It's been a good car, although a horrific green colour, but it's starting to show its age.  In the next few months it's due a service and MOT. There are a few jobs that need doing; exhaust heat shield mounts at manifold have corroded ,  rear wheel bearing is very rough, suspension clonk from the front and a couple of tyres are very close to the wear indicators.
  • Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV - PHEV pros/cons - reliability, servicing etc. 17 Oct 2018 (Forum)
I'm wary of how complex modern diesels are and have a nagging doubt that the PHEV might throw up similarly expensive problems which could be very costly when it's out of warranty. Then there's the question of battery pack longevity and cost to replace, which Mitsubisihi seem to be skirting around for now, judging by the FAQ's I read on their website which seem to be reduced to 'well they're bound to get cheaper...'
  • Peugeot 307 2002 5Door - Car wont start after stereo install attempt 21 Jul 2017 (Forum)
LOL. basically i got this stereo set up yesterday, everything working fine except that when the car is turned off it forgets all the settings i set.. which meant the radio wasnt getting constant power when the car is off. to locate that i took the wires and started plugging them into other random wires, the wire i was connecting was the yellow wire from the stereo, ground is connected, well i look on my dashboard and the light for the airbag is on, i get worried and put the wires back where they are meant to be. and start the car, the car starts. headlights turn on themselves, wipers are also running. i try turn them off but nothing happens its automatically doing those, i turn the car off and these turn off, i try to start the car again and it wont start. the battery is fine and has the power to turn the car on, the starter turns, the car cranks but just wont start. i need a solution to this problem ASAP please, any help would be appreciated.
  • Chevrolet Kalos 2007 1400 - Chevrolet Kalos - Loss of Power When Cold? 8 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Also before it loses power it starts to shudder. The engine light goes out on its own after a few days. The battery is fine and it had a fuel filter change in the summer.  Spark plugs were also changed last summer.  Any suggestions please? Thanks

The only thing I'm sceptical about is the quality (cheap Chinese made) and any effect on the cars battery and/or wiring
  • Vauxhall Astra 2002 1.6 - Electric Power steering not working 18 Jun 2016 (Forum)
I've had a second hand pump put in to replace the old knackered looking one. It was bought on ebay and a ' guaranteed' working item. A new battery was put in and alternator has been checked along with the relays and fuse box.  There are no warning lights on the dashboard and the car drives as normal just minus the PAS. Do you think you could help at all please ?
  • 2009 diesel peugeot 207 5 door hatchback - Peugeot 207 diesel won't start 11 Apr 2016 (Forum)
The car wont start, central locking fine, doors open on keys, ignition powers up, radio lights, etc everything works, but turn the key and nothing, the starter motor does not turn over ( seems to be a light click / ticking? In passenger compartment) the battery is good, fully charged and no current drop) I've checked fuses ( think it's the 2x 10 amp in fuse box in engine compartment, in fact checked all fuses and they seem ok with AVO meter!) It's done this before and on one occasion I needed to replace fuse on other occasion it just started working again, now nothing, but it bump starts and runs fine.
