Honda Civic Type R 16 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Cooper S with works conversion on balance a better proposition - it's more refined. But I wouldn't make a final decision without driving both again. -

3 leg Oil filter, 1/2 inch drive but marked 3/8inch £5.99. Strap wrench for oil filter 1/2 in drive £1.69 Am-Tech brand. They seem reasonable quality for DIY use at least. Wheelhouse, Bell Road Hounslow. Near Hounslow Central tube or 40p for 4 hours in the multi storey carpark 50 feet away from the store. 3 leg worked well when I used it at the W/E. -
Focus to Clio? 8 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Hi all, I currently drive a '99 'S' Focus 1.8 petrol which I've had since Jan 2001 and which has on the whole been reliable and nice to own. I am thinking of downsizing to a brand new Renault Clio 1.6 16V Dynamique+ 3dr, and have seen the Clio on offer as low as £8499. -
Another Steering Wheel Vibration. VWPolo 5 Oct 2003 (Forum)
After a while of driving at higher speeds, the problem does goes away, so its got me completely stumped. I did notice that the front left was worn unevenly when it came off, but I assumed that was down to tyre pressures. -

Terribly boring mpg question... 23 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Not too sure whether this should be here, or in Technical. I'm sure the powers that be will move it if need be ;-) Anyway, I am driving from the South East to the North West and back this weekend, a round trip of about 520 miles, with about 50 miles of faffing about up there. The car I'll be driving is a 1992 Astra 1.7D (yes, *that* Astra...) and I generally never go above 65 ish - I certainly don't scream down the motorway like a loon. -
Xantia 5th Gear's gone awol 10 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Has anyone had any experience of this? I was driving on the M42 yesterday in 5th gear and starting up an incline when I lost all drive in 5th gear. I checked I wasn't resting my foot on the clutch, nope. Not knocked it into neutral, nope. I dropped down to 4th, and that worked. -

Skoda for a learner ? 5 May 2003 (Forum)
Hi Gang - My lovely other 'arf Volvette wants to learn to drive but hasn't got round to it yet. By chance, a good friend of ours has been trying to get rid of a 1996 P plate Skoda Felica Bohemia 5 door and is asking £1200. It's done 38k and has had its 40k service but the road tax is due to expire in the next month or two I believe. -
Small Cars - Invisible? 20 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Since I changed to the smaller car I have noticed that I seem to be cut up more and cars seem to pull out from side roads/on islands in front of me much more often than when I was driving the larger car. My driving style hasn't (I don't think) changed to any great extent. I don't know whether it is because people don't see me or because they think I am going slower than I actually am. -
Golf V5 auto judder 26 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Over the past week or so I've noticed that when accelerating briskly in automatic mode there is a perceptible judder and hesitation as the gearbox shifts into 4th and 5th gears.Once it's changed up the car drives smoothly. It feels as if perhaps the the auto box is trying to change up too quickly. The gears shift perfectly well when driving around town and the judder doesn't occur if I shift up through the gears in tipronic mode. -
Intro to Diesels - what should I know? 23 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Reading the \"Driving too gently\" post, I realised that I really don\'t know much about driving a diesel. Always had petrols before. I now know about the heating up time before you turn it over. I heard that you sould NEVER EVER let a diesel run out of gas or its an expensive Garage job (but I still don\'t know why). -

MOT Reason for Sale How long have you owned it. Checks: Tyres Sills Gen. Body condition Signs of leaks. Radio/Interior electrics. Drive Shaft Boots Compression test (Is this over kill?) Listen for rattles at all revs Coolant Oil Brake noise Does it drive straight with hands off wheel Ditto under braking. -- These are my own opinions, and not necessarily those of all Toads. -

I am no mechanic but i need to have as many reaons as possible to hit him with so that he can't balme me... I was driving along and then the engine became "clunky" , smoke coming out exhaust BUT NO INDICATION OF OVER HEATING!!!! What could have caused it? Could it have been soemthing I did? is it reasonable that a car should do this after only five week driving? -

Cooling/radiators etc 23 May 2002 (Forum)
Occasionally I go on a long drive (400 miles +), at speeds of 90mph +, in temperatures which can be as high as 35 degrees C. Sometimes I have to slow down, for roadworks/passing through towns etc, and crawl along in stop-start traffic. -
Fiesta - a weeping sump? 18 Apr 2002 (Forum)
When SWMBO's 1.1 Fiesta (1995, 75,000 miles) needed topping up with oil, I noticed a few drips under the sump. As I have more respect for my tarmac drive than for the car, my first act was to buy a drip tray. At first, I thought the leak may have been coming from the oilseal at the end of the crankshaft by the pulley. But on closer examination, it looks as though it's weeping through a rusted sump-pan - in fact the pan seemed so corroded that I feared I could poke my finger through and flood the drive with oil!
