Skoda Octavia - No Remote Locking 1 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Hi folks, We have just bought three Octavia 1.9 TDI S Manual Hatchbacks. Surprisingly none of them came with remote locking, although it wasn't something we confirmed in the specification prior to ordering. Skoda don't list the car on their site (it's a slightly older model). -
Ford Fiesta 1388cc Zetec - Poor low speed running 25 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Jumped in my 1388cc zetec Fiesta today after it had been stood for 2 weeks and did a 6 mile round trip.It ran lumpy at low speed as if running on three cylinders or missing. No go in it until wound up to 60mph where it seemed smooth at that speed on neutral throttle.Back on my driveway it did tick over but revved up very poorly. It`s done approx 120k with oil&filter changed regularly, and cam belt at 100k....but not a lot else done within the last 40k for service to the engine.Don`t want to fork out for injection cleaner if it`s something I can tinker with for free.Any ideas please? -
Memories of `early` motoring to the coast. 9 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Everyone spotted the Police Sgt on full display and we rode through at a steady respectul 30mph before opening the bikes up to around 100mph just past the trap. Thast`s what 17yrs and the run to the coast was like in those days. Do you remember any of it? -

Never a WORSE time to buy on finance.... 5 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I thought I would start this thread as the polar opposite to the other current thread "Never a better time to buy - if you have money" Because if discussing it saves a few people from being tempted due to low car prices and brushing aside the credit and current economic risk issue..... surely that`s good. Question, Would you really feel safe, currently, borrowing on credit for a car you didn`t actually need? Let`s hear the caution from the wise and experienced - a little insight or stories of what has happened to people you know, or have heard of, who have overstretched or encountered bad luck with `credit` car purchase and motoring. -
How has motoring changed over the last 11 years? 17 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Have things improved for the motorised masses since Labour's ascent to power in 1997? Were things really any better in the 80's and 90's and where do you think we would be had the Conservatives remained in power? Do you think that the spread of gatso's, reduced road building programmes, intrusive traffic calming, prohibitive 'green' taxes, inefficient bus lanes, suffocating legislation (from the E.U. side of things) are all inevitable parts of modern life? -
Do most cars sound the same these days? 2 Sep 2008 (Forum)
When I was a lad (late 70's to early 80's) I could tell pretty much what car was approaching just from the sound it made. From the whine of a Mini/metro gearbox and exhaust trump of a Moggy Minor to the whine of Pinto engined Fords and rattle of tappety Chrysler/Talbots I could identify pretty much anything. -

Fiesta 1.6s like hens teeth? 16 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Hi all, Can anyone tell me why there arn't so many late shape Fiesta 1.6's about? Been going through the main dealer sites & forecourts, they have many 1.25s & 1.4s in stock but not 1.6s under the Zetec or Ghia trim etc.. only the Zetec S which in my opinion is best for the race track due to it's short gearing. -
Insurance costs/groups 11 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Do insurance groups really bear any relation to the true risk of the vehicles? For a 25-year-old newly qualified driver, the quote for a Volvo S40 1.6 S is £1000. For a Volvo S80 2.5 T S, it is £1,950 (other details identical). Insurance groups are 7 vs. 15. I can't see there is that much difference in the vehicles to justify the extra cost. If you have a high insurance group you basically have to eat the cost of most types of damage to your car due to the effect on the NCD.
