  • Mazda central locking problem 16 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Central locking has just failed on the passenger door of my 1998 323F; the key used to unlock all four doors from either the passenger or driver door, but as of yesterday turning the key in the passenger door only unlocks that door. Is this an easy one to fix? The car is still under warranty, but the dealer is 70 miles away so if it was fixable at home I'd rather do it myself.
  • Toyota Avensis - Used car warning signs - anything to worry about? 30 Mar 2017 (Forum)
All cars had a disclaimer about the mileage "nothing to worry about, trading standards have asked us to do it". Over 60,000 miles anyway so seems about right for 7 years. Potential bargain, or trouble? 1 month warranty then two months 'go halves'.
  • Kwik Fit offering car checks for £59 15 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Did anyone else read an article in the Independent on Saturday regarding a new service offered by Kwik Fit called Car Scan whereby they will give your car an extensive check over for £59. It was described in the paper as equivalent of the pre-sale inspections you can get carried out by the RAC, AA etc and as a good thing to do as your new car warranty comes up for expiry to see if there's anything wrong which you could/should claim for under the warranty before it expires.
  • Ford Focus - Used car fault 2 days into ownership. What do? 13 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Having only a 6 month warranty on the car, what do I do? Take it back and ask for repair (hoping they solve it) or reject the car and get a refund as I cannot afford the car to pack up after the 6 months if it's related to the current fault.
  • Audi A4 - Accident damage - main dealer or approved repairer 4 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I'm hopeful that this will be paid for via the third party's insurance not mine but am not certain at the moment. Car is still under manufacturer's warranty but I am advised that using non main dealer won't affect this. My experience of 'approved' repairers is dire with previous examples of poor fit and finish.
  • Nissan Micra - 2011 Nissan Micra clutch failure 7 Oct 2014 (Forum)
I've owned an 11 plate Micra for seven months which has been excellent small car, until now, when the clutch has failed at 24,000 miles. Is this common as I have had a clutch fail at 54,000 miles, which is expected, but not 24,000?. It's not that I ride the clutch and also try to use it as little as possible in heavy traffic.
  • What Car Depreciation Index 29 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I'm about to start looking at a replacement for the 8yr old Audi and at face value it looks like just what I need to help me decide between sticking with older prestige models that although the depreciation is much lower, run the risk of a big repair bill (as I've just had with the Audi) or putting my motoring budget more towards funding depreciation on a much newer used car but having the protection of a car still with a good chunk of warranty and lower probability of hefty repairs.
  • Hyundai Getz - What to buy 8 Sep 2013 (Forum)
Another concern is that the Getz has been under used which is not good for a car.  Is the getz still worth considering?
  • Toyota Avensis '53 Estate T3-x (T25) - What questions should I ask Recon Gearbox Supplier 16 Mar 2016 (Forum)
They come with 12 month warranties as opposed to 1 to 3 monthes on the used boxes, but should I (or is it reasonable to?) ask for a report?  Is there anything else I should ask?   Many thanks   Ian
  • Bought a car with no service book - what can I do? 27 Sep 2008 (Forum)
If so I was thinking of using that as leverage to tell the dealer that the car they sold me might not have done 15k as they had advertised and see if I can wheedle a service and warranty out of them. Any advice? Thanks --Amr
  • Meriva car audio Car 2005 10 May 2007 (Forum)
Whilst having the warranty work done on my Meriva, i noticed a dealers offer to fit an ipod kit to the car. I don't have an ipod, but a different mp3, so need a 3.5mm jack input. Reading through the manual for the radio (Car 2005) it seems to have an input, for a mobiel phone or sat nav, which the4 radio will switch to when it senses an input signal.
  • Advice welcomed! Newbie seeks car £3-4K 9 May 2005 (Forum)
Would anyone have any views on a good second-hand car to get for £3-4K? I know very little about cars so will probably buy from a car supermarket (Car Giant?) Main use will be around town but with some forays a few hours away. Was wondering about a Ford Ka (looking at recent postings...) and a Peugot 406.
  • Nissan X-Trail (2001 - 2007) - 05 2.0 Clutch replacement 25 Jan 2011 (Forum)
The dealer is not charging full price for the part and is not charging me labour on it, but the whole shebang is costing about £1700 in total. How is it that Nissan has not issued a recall on its cars as the intercooler seems to be a general problem; and surely a clutch on a manul transmission car should last longer than 48,000 miles? If the design is the problem, why use this design? I feel pretty let down by this.
  • 2004 Polo 1.4 brake deglazing ? 19 Feb 2006 (Forum)
The frequent soft braking style will be used by anyone driving in London. Because the brakes don't come under the warranty I have to pay for deglazing or try hosing the brakes down along with a series of hard braking manouevres, neither of which option will permanently cure the problem.
  • Hyundai i20 - i20 Clutch Fail! 8 Sep 2015 (Forum)
The dealer now wants me to authorise £450 odd worth of work to take the gearbox and clutch out and replace if necessary. Same old story, I've driven cars for 10 years, with many more miles on the clock than this, without any clutch issues. I don't ride the clutch and I always use the handbreak (i.e. I don't hold the car on the clutch on hills/at junctions).
  • Mazda CX-5 - Mazda diesel contamination 14 Mar 2024 (Forum)
We deliberately picked a car with full service history and low reativly mileage (50,000) as we assumed it would last us a few years, not 10 months  we also paid for the warranty for some extra peace of mind.  Not sure where to go from here as I want to take this further.
  • Hyundai Tucson - Advice please first big purchase 5 Mar 2019 (Forum)
After owning a few older cars, (vectra and fiesta) and not paying anymore than 2.5k for a car, I'm looking for an suv with a few years manufactures warranty. Both me and the wife will be driving it, around 15000 miles a year. We test drove a 1.5dci qashqai and a 1.6gdi tucson 2018 models.
  • Skoda Fabia DSG 2011 - Consumer Legal Advice 24 Oct 2017 (Forum)
I bought a used Skoda Fabia Automatic (2011) with ~40,000 miles on the clock - for about £5600. I bought it from an independent dealer, and it came with a 6 month RAC warranty. After 6 months and 2 weeks, just out of warranty, it developed problems with the automatic gearbox.
  • Nissan X-Trail (2001 - 2007) - consumer rights 10 Feb 2010 (Forum)
He also denied that it was the 'Gold warranty' I was given - despite his son (the salesman) definitely telling me it was (the Gold warranty is apparently for a year). I mean, that was where I got the term 'Gold Warranty' in the first place!
  • Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - Dealer purchased - hidden crash damage. 17 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I bought a used 2005 VW Golf TDI on 20th Oct from an independent dealer. The car did not have any service history, and hence was priced well. The car was described to have had a previous lady owner who could not park well, and hence had a couple of dinks in the body work.
