  • am i being fleeced ??? 10 May 2003 (Forum)
(I suppose hours three, four and five were good and didn`t need permission) They called me back about an hour and a half later to tell me it wasn`t the relay but the ecu would have to be replaced and I would be charged for the relay, six hours labour, the new ecu (which will take two days to arrive) and two hours to fit the new ecu. All this for a grand total of around £900 .
  • Do we really need or want this level of complicati 6 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Just been reading an article about the new BMW 7 series 6 speed auto transmission 6HP26 also known as "myTronic6." Quote from Vehicle Engineering and Design Nov2001. ?At the core is an ECU from Motorola?s PowerPC family. Each transmission produced at Saarbrucken goes through a battery of tests to establish its unique characteristics, which are then programmed into the chip, *creating a bespoke ECU for that specific transmission* . ?

  • Blanking of EGRs and insurance? 30 Nov 2009 (Forum)
When they go wrong they cause problems and they are expensive, so people just blank them off completly. Vauxhall even have a mod where the dealer will disable the EGR function in the ECU for some engines, so it seems the dealers even support this mod. There is an otion in the Tech2 software which apparantly disables this part, on some I think the ECU automaticaly detects that its been blanked.

  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 01 1.8 Coolant temperature sensor 17 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Does anyone know whether the Mk3 mondeo 1.8 petrol has two different coolant temperature sensors (one for the guage and one for the ECU) like the Mk2? I know there is one built into the thermostat housing, but not sure whether this is for guage, ECU or both. The car can be quite difficult to start and lumpy when cold, but fine when warmed up.

  • No fault with tyre pressure sensor 4 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Some time ago, I put the spare wheel on the rear offside of the car and the original went into the boot as the spare. Little did I know that the sensor is read by the ECU whether the wheel is fitted to the car, or left in the boot. There is no sensor in the original spare, so the car's ECU was taking the read out from the new spare, which had become low on pressure (down to 24 psi).

  • Storing fuel injectors 7 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I have just had a Saab performance upgrade kit fitted to my 2.0 Saab 9-5 which consists of a new ECU plus a set of different fuel injectors. I plan on keeping the old ECU and injectors in case I decide to migrate back to the original setup (e.g. on change of car). My question is, what is the best way to store the injectors to avoid any problems when they are refitted (if ever)?
  • Mondeo 1.8 Pinking 16 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Further to a thread in the past my 99 Mondeo 1.8 is still pinking on normal unleaded (fine on optimax) I have replaced the plugs and HT leads, ran three doses of VAG fuel additive through the system and reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery for half a day. Incidentally, since disconnecting the battery and resetting the ECU the pinking seems to be worse (I might be imagining it though.) The pinking occurs mainly at 30mph in fourth gear when I floor the throttle.
  • 05 model - Volvo 50 diesel estate 14 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Next morning car would not start at all. Towed to local garage who spent three weeks looking at it, they thought it was an ecu issue. Car towed to main dealer who after one week also said it was likely to be ecu issue but they couldn't be certain as may need new throttle. Cost for new ecu extortionate and as delayer could not be certain I was not prepared to write an open cheque.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 00 2.0 HDI Major Problems - help please? 1 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Replaced (£40) still no luck. Finally decided to take matters into my own hands and had the original ECU sent to ECU doctor in plymouth(£120). Said there was a fault that could of caused the high pressure pump to go. So fixed ECU placed back into car and still no luck. Took car to peugeot(i know your thinking, do all that THEN take it to peugeot!
