Diesel storage 20 Sep 2006 (Forum)
How much diesel fuel are you legally allowed to store? Got 5p off a litre at Tescos so thought about filling my 5 gallon plastic tank and car at same time! Has anyone else tried this? Cheers, Ian -
BP payouts for fuel mix up 14 Sep 2004 (Forum)
The company announced the unprecedented step after scores of drivers became confused by Ultimate, the firm's latest range of unleaded fuel. Express 11/09/04 p47 I haven't seen Ultimate for sale yet- I assume the hose/ trigger is black like diesel normally is?? Isn't this carte blanche for anyone with a dodgy engine to go to BP and fill up with the wrong fuel and claim for a new engine? -

reliable diesel hatchback - any recommendations? 24 Jul 2017 (Forum)
Hoping someone can help. I currently have a 1.2 petrol Nissan micra but am spending a fortune on fuel (I do approx. 25000miles a year, mostly town driving and getting 44mpg - about £70 a week in petrol). So I'm looking into buying a diesel hatchback - I want reliability as well as fuel economy. -
Mercedes-Benz CLS 350 CDI - Shell V-Power/BP Ultimate Diesels 24 May 2016 (Forum)
I just wanted to endorse HJ's recommendation of Shell V-Power Diesel. Last week on a 400 mile run from Dijon using a mixture of Shell V-Power and BP Ultimate Diesels I pulled into our Hotel in Carcassonne showing an average of 49.6 mpg for the journey. This was door to door, included stops for fuel, lunch and 'peages', a fullish load, two passengers and A/C on all the time. -
Skoda Octavia vRS - Petrol vs Diesel with a twist. 21 Jun 2014 (Forum)
I'm thinking of buying a Skoda Octavia vRS around 2006 to 2010 model year and don't know whether to go for a petrol or diesel. The twist bit is that I get a company fuel card so although the fuel isn't free due to tax on beneft in kind, it's greatly reduced. However I have to fund all the maintenance costs so need to think about reliability, servicing and costs of repairs. -
Diesel a bad buy 14 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Being a regular reader i have come to the conclusion that buying a diesel other than new is defiantly a bad buy compared to petrol.Once out of warranty. Consider the cost of glowplugs ,fuelpumps, any engine work due to the close engineering tolerances, air leaks into the fuel system , smell when refueling, the longer warm-up mileage's required before the car heater blows hot ,noise on idle, black clouds of exhaust fumes on full bore excellent, heavier engines, ect Advantages good torque , good fuel economy, good resale? -
Volvo V70/00 - 07 - Temporary Fuel Starvation, 20 Nov 2018 (Forum)
The car suffers a temporary loss of fuel ( the engine cuts out ) sit there for 5 minutes and the car will restart. This has happened mostly when going around roundabouts or going up a steep hill. It has never happened with a tank full of fuel. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 00 1.8 Fuel Guage 20 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hi, I have a Ford Focus 1.8 diesel estate. Recently it has developed a prolem with the fuel guage. When it gets to just over quarter tank, next time you turn the ignition on the fuel guage goes to full then each time after that progresively goes down. -
Petrol in Diesel Sabotage? 26 Jan 2007 (Forum)
2) What would the symptoms of such contamination be? I thought that contamination ruined the high-pressure fuel pump and injectors through lack of lubrication. Out of interest, the garage where the fuel was obtained has been given a clean bill of health, and the one that replaced the engine is above suspiscion too. -
Renault Clio 1.5 Dci smoking 14 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Coolant is correct colour and free of deposits/emulsified oil as is the rocker cover. Have also noticed lots of air bubbles in clear fuel lines. I know that conventional diesels don't like air in the fuel but do common rail diesels tolerate air and could this cause the excessive smoking? Not knowing much about these Dci diesels, anyone out there know if these cars suffer gasket failure Cheers, Andrew -
Esso diesel 4 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I have a diesel powered 406 HDI and find that Esso fuel makes this car go much better than any other diesel. Why might this be ? and do peugeot throw all their cars together in such a slipshod way as they assembled mine ? -

Citroen C Crosser 2.2HDi - Diesel additives? which one and how often 3 May 2015 (Forum)
Now planning to fill up with Shell or BP, not supermarket grade, and driving 250 miles on Wednesday. Would one of the small bottles of diesel additives in the tank make sense at this stage? to clean out any further risks? Note... the car has driven fine all week since on the same Tesco fuel. Have had the car 3 years and run it so far on various different brands of "stock" diesel. -
Mondeo diesel starting - or not... 24 Feb 2003 (Forum)
This all became apparent last winter but 'cured' itself until approx a week ago. Performance is pretty good for a diesel with over 160,000 miles and averaging 50 mpg so I would discount fuel starvation or air in the system; doesn't hesitate, pulls well enough, air filter is 3 months old. I do use Safeway fuel but have, for the last 2 months, been using Millers Diesel Power Plus (no significant obvious gains or losses there). -
BMW 320D Tourer E46 Diesel 2002 reg - Crank but no start. 14 Jul 2021 (Forum)
I then replaced the fuel filter under the car (passenger side), and still no start, but did notice that now the diesel fuel pump next to it is always priming every time you attempt to start the car, so replaced that and still no start but still constantly priming. -
Supermarket Fuel 20 May 2023 (Forum)
Bit late but the truth is there The fact that the stuff is sold in litres and not gallons is the biggest con Supermarkets and fuel retailers pushing diesel and petrol prices higher than needed, competition watchdog finds (msn.com) -
Fuel theft 15 Sep 2008 (Forum)
As we all know too well, cost at the pumps rose dramatically this year. We heard of major thefts of diesel from farms, but was there an accompanying rash of siphoning etc. as in the early 70s, which provoked car makers to introduce locking fuel caps and other devices? (I don't seem to remember those on cars before that?)
