How much influence on car choice has your partner? 26 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Do m'learned friends make the choice for themselves and try to persuade partner of the rightness of the choice later when it's on the drive? Or is there a shortlist maybe? Is the choice an entirely joint matter? Does partner see car in street and suggest it for next purchase? I've bought the majority of my cars using my own skill and judgement, but am now moving towards a joint approach: as I get older I want Mrs O to be entirely happy in driving my car so she can get me back to civilisation if I keel over at the wheel in the middle of nowhere! -
Smallish automatic for about £6k 21 Nov 2009 (Forum)
My daughter is looking for a smallish (for parking) "traditional" automatic to buy for about £6k. She does quite a lot of long distance motorway drives, and currently has a 9 year old Toyota Yaris, which has been excellent. We had a test drive with a 3 year old Mitsubishi Colt diesel automatic, but the auto lurched from gear to gear, ? had no torque converter unlike her current Yaris. -

BMW 3-Series E92 Coupe (2006 - ) - BMW vs AUDI 8 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I'm not strictly in the market for just these models, in fact I've never owned a BMW, but I'm told these are good options for the price. I cant say I know too much about cars but I'm currently driving an AUDI A3 which is a good car but too small for my needs. Is it correct BMW's are a better drive? Anyway, to refer to the original question if given the choice...BMW or AUDI? -
Penalty for Stopping on Footpath - Please Advise 8 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I was picking up my daughter from nursery and somehow she strapped herself out of the car-sit while I was driving, so I stopped for... (I am not sure if it was more than a minute but it says in the penalty notice that it was from 17:58 to 18:00) over the footpath, with two wheels on the footpath (I was sent a picture as well) I did not get out of the car at all, I strapped her again and carry on with my driving!!! -
Honda Legend (2006 - ) - Suggestions for a car to spoil myself with 30 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I've been looking at replacing my sensible family car with a 2 year old (or thereabouts) luxury car - its my version of a 40year old sports car but I'm too sensible for my own good - I've looked at all of the obvious things and am starting to scratch my head - I've got £20k to spend but can push it. I drive 20 miles each day to work through city traffic and have the occasional long drive to France on holiday. My insurance is really low and I don't really car about road tax etc. I seem to be favouring the Honda Legend but am easily swayed by suggestions. -

dangerous cars seen on the road 26 Apr 2009 (Forum)
How do people get away with this ? If it was me with a dodgy car my luck would have run out along time ago. Has anyone else seen 'driving death traps' ? -
Need to hire a luxury car for a weekend in August 27 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I'm in the North East so unless they deliver the car it will have to be somewhere within about 100 miles maximum for me to collect. I don't want a car with driver as the whole point is that I will be driving the car (my friend's request) so it has to be a self-drive company. Cars up for considersation are 300C, A8, 5 and 7 Series, E and S-Class but I'll look at anything else that has a suitably nice feel about it. -
Autos - left foot braking query 25 Mar 2009 (Forum)
My experiences of using the left foot to brake are that you almost fly through the windscreen as your foot is used to clutch pressure. How viable is it to learn to use left foot? Anyone here brake with their left foot when driving an auto? -
Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - 02 Diesel brakes(?) coming on intermittent 21 Mar 2009 (Forum)
If my wife drives the car and I follow I can see the brake lights flicker occasionally like a loose connection but surely that cant be the case as the brakes come on. We've had Kwik Fit look at and thoroughly inspect and clean the brakes and they say nothing wrong. -
Not so young new driver...recommendations 4 Mar 2009 (Forum)
A friend of mine in his mid twenties has recently qualified as a UK driver, and together we are trying to find a suitable car. He has a fair amount of driving experience outside the UK, and will be driving approx 12k miles pa, most of it on a motorway commute, and working on projects away from home. Budget is £2500, preferably less. My advice is to only buy privately (too much mark up for traders at that price) and go for a 1.4/2.0 petrol...cheaper to repair than diesel? -
Classic Gear programme 3 Mar 2009 (Forum)
It promised so much and delivered so little. One presenter seemed to regard the engine sounds of the cars he was driving as their most important feature. Another managed to talk a lot but say nothing of interest despite driving an Aston Martin DB5 on winding mountain roads in the south of France - this culminated in her having a 'race' with a DBS which seemed to be run at about 50 mph with fast editing used to make it seem quicker. -
To buy a facelift or not to buy. 16 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Would it be wiser say to buy a facelifted Mazda 3,-current not the new Mazda 3 'facelifted' 2009 version - rather than a new Megane III, and then wait for the facelifted Megane III ? Somone commented that Renault let their customers find the problems through driving and then make adjustments accordingly. Do all manufacturers do the same? -
Revoked License 24 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Earlier this summer my son had his license revoked for driving with no insurance... *.********** Instead of declaring he had passed (in april) he continued to drive his car with provisional insurance and then cancelled it. Lying to me that it had all been sorted. -

Insurance - What defines modification ? 16 Oct 2008 (Forum)
What if, you take out a policy to which you add European cover which covers you at the same level as it does driving in the UK, i.e. fully comp. level. If you then put winter wheels and tyres on the car to drive in Northern Europe over the winter (which is a legal requirement in most countries) would that be classed as a modification or are you simply complying with legal requirements? -
2006 Mondeo 1.8 Zetec v Vectra 1.9 CDTi 11 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I am looking for a reliable, cheap car able to carry decent amount of baggage. I am not really interested in the minutiae of how it drives (the most enjoyable car I have driven in 30 years of driving was the wifes 10 year old 1ltr Fiat Uno!). Which would you choose - and can you think of anything better for the money? -
Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 2004 Scenic = rubbish! 18 Sep 2008 (Forum)
It's a real shame because the concept is great, it's nice to drive and looks good. We won't be buying this at the end of the lease.
