  • Peugeot 406 hdi fuel leak 27 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 99 406 and it has developed a leak in the engine bay. It seems to only happen above 2500rpm (80mph+)and apart from this the engine runs fine. I have had the injector unions checked and changed the fuel supply/return pipes just in front of the cylineer head, where the leak appears to be. could it be a partially blocked return pipe ?
  • G Reg Golf - head gasket problems 13 Jun 2005 (Forum)
We paid nearly £400 to get it through the MOT just two weeks ago and now it turns out the head gasket has gone :o( Needless to say, we're a tad short on funds at the moment so do you reckon it would be OK to run it for a little while longer as it is? Cheers

  • Rover 600 td Ecu faults 21 May 2005 (Forum)
Car runs fine for 12 miles, then when idling the yellow ECM light comes on and engine tries to fail, but then picks up again. This is accompnied by lumpt idling. I suspect a Not Present fault but wonder if the various sensors can be disconnected and bridged as a "get home" solution.
  • Why a Green light? 12 May 2005 (Forum)
Also, he wasn't equipped with, or at least using, any form of siren. Even the relatively tiny and rare mountain rescue teams run on blue lights.

Hi all, Was wondering what average MPG you lot get on average no your Audi 80 TDi. Im getting just about 37MPG on my 1994 Audi 80. I drive on short stop start journeys (school run, shopping, gym etc) and my average speed rarely exceeds 35mph. Is this MPG about right?
  • What car for me? 23 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I'll be looking for a car soon (as soon as I sell mine) and wanted one in the cheaper tax and to run bracket (1.4 or under). Being 5ft 11" and 14 stone a micra is not going to do the job. Anyone got any suggestion on a medium size car in this bracket? (What's a good car to get, what's not). If you had £1,000 to get this sort of car, what would it be?
  • 4WD On/Off 10 Feb 2005 (Forum)
i am considering a 4Wheel drive diesel I have looked at the Freelander, suzuki grand vitara and toyota rav4 I like the toyota best however it has fixed 4wd whereas the suzuki can run on 2wd I do not intend to use it as an off roader but I like the higher driving and where I lve the 4wd is handy in the winter. Has anyone any thoughts about fixed 4wd
  • Astra Diesel. 3 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Looking for a AStra Diesel, after reading the CBC, I'm looking for the views of people who have owned them, which is the best to go for in terms of speed and economy? I dont want anything that runs our of steam half way up an incline, so I'm looking at something around 99 bhp. There seems to have been a number of engines, also must be reliable. I do about 1000 miles a week. Thanks in advance.
  • The crazy question thread! 21 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Stuff you always wanted to know but were to afraid to ask! If i left my car idling on a full tank, how long before it runs out? If i ran my engine at maximum rev's, how long before it went bang? if i went flat out in first gear, how long before gearbox goes to pieces? More crazy questions and answers wanted from the very knowledgeable backroom!

  • Saxo coolant loss 14 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I cannot see any evidence of where it might be dripping from underneath the car, but at the back of the radiator the top corner has grown a bit of a blue fur coat. Am I right in thinking this is anti-freeze and this is where the problem is? The car runs ok with no wheezing or whistling and there is no evidence of water contamination in the oil. Thanks in advance for any ideas.
  • New Astra Reliability? 18 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I ask because today I saw about the 4th one in 3 weeks with its bonnet up on the hard shoulder of the motorway ironically I have seen them all on the M53 which runs through Elsemere Port straight past the Vauxhall factory in which they are produced! Glad I bought a Honda! Thanks
  • Parallel Routes for relaxed driving 8 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Partly inspired by the mention of a new TV program involving old routes between places, I was wondering if people know (and would be prepared to share!) of more relaxing routes which run near to more hectic routes. As a starter; When I have time, I prefer to use the B4100 instead of the M42 north of Oxford. IIRC, it used to be the A41, and is mostly deserted. Perfect, stress-free progress!

  • Good News & Bad News 31 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Good news. Honda are to bring out a version of the Civic which runs on natural gas from the mains, very clean burning etc. The sale includes a compressor to raise the pressure from the gas main to that required for the car to use, and to store enough. Plug it into the cooker point when you get home, DON'T forget to unplug next morning!
