Vauxhall Corsa - 50mph crash, write off, old car :( 2 Oct 2017 (Forum)
So, This is my second time posting here! This one is a bit more serious than the last. Last week I had a Lorry turn right across me into a junction.... -
Rover 25 2003 1.6 - clock resets itself ,door alarm,alternator belt 1 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Thanks for all the help on my other posts , some of the advice has led to my car problems being fixed.I got a few minor problems below: Problem 1 I noticed ever since I purchased the vehicle the clock on the dash resets itself to 12.00 when engine is shut off. The current battery in the car is old may even be the original battery as it looks old and rusted and testing it using a volt meter gives a 12.4 reading with ignition off in the morning .two garages did free battery tests using their advanced devices and they both said it is on its way out, hence I will be replacing this battery. The trip which shows the journey mileage does not reset it self like the clock when engine is switched off. does anyone have any ideas whether it is the battery causing the clock to reset itself or something else like a fuse or something? -
My new Ford Focus CC3 11 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Brakes are an improvement on my old Focus, and the two-litre diesel is quieter and has more go than the 1.8 I had in the last car. The extra weight of the roof makes the car feel better balanced and even with that weight it's doing 40mpg. -
car stolen off driveway 16 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I reported it stolen on the phone straight away. The car was on SORN and was not insured. I actually called a scrappie's number that the tenants took off the windscreen for me after we spoke, but an old woman answering it claimed her son the scrappie was 200 miles the day it happened.. -
Hyundai i20 (2009) - A worthwhile deal? 10 Nov 2009 (Forum)
But it is eligible for the scrappage scheme so a thought has occurred to me that "she" could buy a new car, we could sell SWMBO?s 6 year old, 50k Yaris and end up with a new car for the boss, even if it is nominally registered in our daughter?s name. Also, there is a Hyundai dealer just a few miles from where we live (I know there are a few Northampton-ites on this forum, it's the one at Stoney Stratford). -
Good therapist needed urgently 20 Feb 2004 (Forum)
As always with these old big block live-for-ever Fords, whisper-quiet mechanically, no evidence of smoke but with the bellow of an enraged bull when floored, brutal acceleration, trans takes up with a postive clonk straight away, brakes with loads of travel but work fine, some evidence of the traditional Mustang overheating (it's 34 C today), the anti-diluvian Bendix a/c works fine (the seller has a car air-con shop!) -
VOLKSWAGEN Golf Ready2Go 1.0 TSI 85kW 115CV - Should I buy a car with a visible crack? 27 Jul 2024 (Forum)
I´m looking to buy a second hand car, approximately 6 years old and I´ve found this VW Golf which looks in great condition generally, runs well and is at a good price from a local car dealer. My only worry is that there is a small crack in the framework at the back left of the car (approx 1 inch) - only visible when you open the boot. -
Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - Worth buying? 8 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I think the car would be a total lost as its an old car and I can't imagine insurance would be bothered to fix the car. Looking at what to buy and I quite like the Accord. Thinking of getting 2.0 hatchback. My budget is around £1500 and there are quite a few available around that price mark. -
The best of Car Magazine 60s & 70s and 70s and 80s 29 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I was shocked to pick up a "best selling" car mag affiliated to a well known t.v programme and find the artcles expletive ridden and just generally poorly written, happy days eh. I wish i could get hold of some old Car magazines from the 80s, I threw all mine out years ago! -
Will platform sharing die soon ? 30 Oct 2006 (Forum)
He states that too much is made of platform sharing and common componenets and it does not necessarily make cars cheaper, it makes for compromises. He thinks platform sharing is now a very old fashioned engineering way of thinking. So should other companies keep doing it and in fact do we buy compromised cars when we buy a car that shares componenets and platforms with other models and makes ? -
Alarm Bells on Car Purchase! 4 Sep 2006 (Forum)
(20%). BUT!!! The guy took the car to a car park for her to view, it's got a Northern Ireland reg, he says it belongs to his Dad in Northern Ireland, not him, she didn't see any documentation. I've found out where the car and the guy lives but for some reason I've got alarm bells ringing. -
Cars appearance and MOTs 6 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Im wondering if the general apperance of a car can affect the way the tester approaches the car. My old Mazda is pretty tatty as cars go. It has scratches, fair sized dent on front wing, lots of surface rust, a badly dented front valance, a dent in the sill, a scrape on the rear wheel arch and there is plenty of untidy paint in general. -
Cars 14 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I'm looking at buying an old car (10 years plus) and Looking at the car adverts I'm occasionally coming across cars from traders which are inexplicably a couple of hundred quid cheaper than those in other trade ads and are advertised as "To clear", but seem to be described as being in good condition, even with average to low kind of mileages. -
Drunk in charge of a motor vehicle 19 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Does it make a difference if that key is hidden in the ashtray, or under the tree stump at the end of the road? Does the old 'trick' of opening the car, and then throwing the keys as far from the car as we can work? Errors in the above, comments & observations, please! -
New car warranty 19 May 2004 (Forum)
The dust from the shoes built up and jammed my wheels up. When I took it to the dealer at first they fited a new clutch. when the car jammed again the AA towed the car to the dealer. First question? Should the brake shoes break up like that on a 2 year old car and is is classed a wear and tear or mechanical failure. I am disputing this with the dealer. -
Renault Scenic - Help me value my Scenic? 11 Apr 2015 (Forum)
-It's a 10 year old family car, complete with all the little dents, scratches, stains, scuffs you'd imagine from a well used family car. -The rear nearside window doesn't go up/down. The mechanism chewed itself so it's permanently in the "up" position. -
Cars people race 17 Sep 2010 (Forum)
I have two cars a Mazda RX8 (although used to be my only car)and an Alfa 156 1.8 for everyday use and over the last 10 years I have owned a number of cars, both personally and as company cars, Astra, Mondeo, Audi A4, Jaguar X type.... -
Chrysler Sebring Saloon (2007 - ) - It is worse than I expected 6 Sep 2009 (Forum)
However this driver now has a hire Sebring and its awful. The second I got in the car I notice all this plastic wood all over the place, fake plastic rings round the gear lever, fake plastic door handles, leather seats which feel like plastic and door cars made of cheap grade plastic I have list seen on my dads old Lada Riva 1200L from 1987. -
Volkswagen Golf GTI - Rough idle 22 Apr 2013 (Forum)
After reading many other Forums and several hundred pounds later, I have so far: replaced the coil, HT leads, spark plugs, distributor unit +cap+ rotor arm, fuel pressure regulator, blue chip sensor, knock sensor, checked all vaccuum pipes for leaks - one was replaced, tried 2 new ISV (made no difference, with the original being better than the new ones), cleaned out and re-set the (original) ISV, cleaned out the throttle body, 'spaceship', rocker cover vent grill, and air flow meter; checked that the micro switches 'click', had a diagnostic timing/mixture/tickover set up, had a compression test and pressure test (the latter found cylinders slightly down on perfect but car is 24yrs old!). Also had a new exhaust manifold fitted as the old one was blowing severly. No problem starting, cold or hot. No accelleration problems. The car now does not cut out but most of the time the idle drops to around 500rpm then picks back up. -
Ford Mondeo - Any other large petrol car suggestions 24 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Budget will be 10K max, ideally a bit less. Looking at another 3 year old car to dodge the worst of the depreciation. A Mk4 Mondeo is the first candidate. Anything else I should look at? Requirements - big boot (got to be hatchback or estate) at or near Mondeo size.
