The best of Car Magazine 60s & 70s and 70s and 80s - mattbod
Just an addition to the previous thread on motoring writers. I have just been looking in my local bookshop and found two new books released with a selection of articles taken from Car magazine from its glory days. If you are interested these books are published by Anova Books. I used to enjoy this magazine a lot, especially as a young lad growing up in the 80s. I think it is very disappointing that current car magazines do not seem to have anywhere near the quality of writing that you used to find in Car Magazine. I was shocked to pick up a "best selling" car mag affiliated to a well known t.v programme and find the artcles expletive ridden and just generally poorly written, happy days eh. I wish i could get hold of some old Car magazines from the 80s, I threw all mine out years ago!

I have every copy of Autosport since early '84 and that is a weekly so around so well over 1000 issues, not bound and indexed just in boxes, been thinking of selling them though no idea of value.

I have every copy of Car magazine from 1977 to 2000 in boxes in a house in the UK. I would love to bring them here but my wife would go mad.

I cancelled my subscription in 2004 as it had gone so seriously down hill and ditched all the 21st century issues. I can't remember how long I subscribed rather than bought it at the newsagent, but probably at least 10 years. I thought it sad, but not surprising, that when I cancelled noone wrote to me to ask why.

Having looked on eBay they don't seem to be worth much, so just have to figure some way of getting them here and hiding them.

Car magazine used to be good when it had good writers. Now it's just supercar-porn.

Motor Sport was good - probably still is.

Autocar has always been pretty good for up-to-date information.

If any of you guys have a few that you don't want I'd be happy to take them off your hands. I'll leave my details with pugugly. Just interested in the mid 80s mags as reading that book brought back such happy memories of when I was a kid and owning a car wasn't a crime. Iwonder what old Len Setright would have made of the current situation. I would have loved to see him live long enough to review the Prius.
