Mazda Mazda 6 (2008 -) - Fuel Consumption on the new 6 31 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I'm also interested for anybody's feeling about whether the differentail between petrol and diesesl is likely to increase as fuel surges towards the predicted £1.50 per litre for unleaded. Thanks for your help. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 Fuel consumption urban figure 22 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Do you think revving the engine whilst it is idling uses more petrol than holding onto low gears while driving and is the 27mpg only a guide ? What about cold weather - does this really reduce fuel economy on modern cars ? Thanks again -
Rover 75 (1999 - 2005) - 2002 2.0 Dies Not starting when stopped after shor 30 Oct 2008 (Forum)
My 75 diesel on 2 occassions with more than 1000 miles between has refused to start after short 10 minute stop. I have removed the inlet to the filter turned the ignition until fuel flowed, and then the outlet from the filter and after getting fuel to flow replaced the pipe, and the engine fired first time and ran perfect. The first time the fuel tank was over 1/4 full on the second 3/4 full . -
Volvo 940 (1992 - 1997) - 1996 2.3 In-Tank fuel pump refitting 27 Aug 2008 (Forum)
There is a yellow low sided thing in the tank and I'm assuming that the pump etc should sit in that - but maybe it should sit outside? Any thoughts welcome as I'm not too happy having the car sitting in the drive with a 3/4 full fuel tank of petrol that's not properly sealed........... Cheers, Andy -
Ford Fiesta (1976 - 1983) - 1982 1.3 Pinking - solve with fuel additives or su 27 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Do I get the ignition timing tweaked (as it's a late mk1 it's got electronic ignition) or shall I switch to super unleaded or an additive? I don't use the car much so I'm not that worried about the extra cost of changing the fuel or using additive. I'd rather pay the extra than potentially knacker the engine long term! Any thoughts/opinions greatly appreciated. Many thanks Rob -
Volkswagen Scirocco Mk II (1983 - 1991) - 1983 1.8 Fuel system warm-up mixture control 23 Jun 2008 (Forum)
My VW Scirocco has a Bosch fuel injection system. A warm-up mixture control device is bolted to the side of the cylinder block. Although there appears to be little to wear out or go wrong with this unit, it does drift off optimum setting with time. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 00 2.0HDi Won't start!!! 20 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Hi I have a 2000 306 Hdi, she has been running fine for the last while after a few problems, one being changing the low pressure fuel pump in the tank. But she has been running great. At the weekend i put £20 of maxol fuel in which is 5% biodiesel. then after a trip of 80 miles i refilled the car to the neck, this was 4 days ago. -
Rover 600 (1993 - 1999) - 97 2.0 620 sdi fuel problems 15 May 2008 (Forum)
My car cut out on me and has failed to start since. Ive checked the stop solenoid and wiring for chaffing but that seems all ok. fuel is getting to the pump ok and pressurising whilst the engine is being turned over but nothing is getting to the injectors or out of the back of the pump if you disconnect the injector pipes. We've taken the plunger out of the stop solenoid to completely eliminate that but still nothing out to the injector. -
Honda - CB1100 (yr2000) X11 Surging problem 13 May 2008 (Forum)
After a steady run at motorway speeds, once I close the throttle to slow down, the engine jerks as though its being starved of fuel. Feels very similar to the good old days when your bike ran onto reserve and you had to grope about to switch the fuel tap onto 'reserve'. If I open the throttle it pulls away nice and clean, but shut it again and it feels jerky (like surging). -
Ethanol fuel from scrap tyres 8 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Hearing on here about Morrison's fuel prices and filling a Forester in future at £8 a gallon, An article in the latest edition of Car magazine caught my eye, about using bacteria to create Ethanol from household waste and/or scrapped tyres. -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 00 1.6 8v - Dual Fuel vehicle won't run on Petrol 26 Jan 2008 (Forum)
When switched to petrol car will not start, starter turns but not firing at all. But it Starts and Runs on gas ok after about 5 second starter delay. I have checked fuel pump and relay - both ok. Doesn't seem to be a seperate fuse for the ignition system. I've checked all the main fuses and all intact. Any suggestions on what else to look at? -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 03 TDCi - Fuel Pump problem ? 19 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I took it to my local mechanic rather than the main dealer and he has now had the car for almost a week, he has still not been able to get to the bottom of the problem. however he suggests that it might be the fuel pump which may need to be replaced. can someone please advise if they've had a similar problem with their car! (added in make/model from the pull down options) -
Multipla Jtd. Wrong fuel put in. 24 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Anyhow we got it recovered to a garage flushed and re-fuelled all sems well, so my question is this-should I expect premature failiure of the fuel pump as many commontators (inc our beloved Honest John) would have me believe? I leave myself at the mercy of your collective learnings. {Subject header given a more meaningful and less vague subject header. -
"carbon neutral" 12 Jan 2007 (Forum)
"All ministerial journeys are carbon neutral" quoth the PM's spokesman. What on earth does this mean? At best, it means that the fuel is a bio fuel - so it turns current CO2 into current carbon-based fuel... but no doubt using coal-generated electricity to undertake the chemical processing. At worst, it presumably means that they are patronising some 'noble savage' (Rousseau, qv) somewhere to plant a couple of trees which might absorb some of the carbon from the air. -
BMW 320d fuel/oil leak 27 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Are these 2 issues likely to be linked? I saw an item on this website about a known issue on 320d of this age saying fuel pump and filters are likely to need changing) The car was purchased from Lloyds Bank Car Select and came with full warranty. Have booked car in for check at the warranty firms chosen garage - but this is not a BMW garage. -
Basic Service - Skoda Favorit GLXie 3 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I want to do a "basics" service on my Skoda Favorit (1995 GLXie), hopefully so it runs a bit better (is not too bad) and better fuel economy etc. I'm planning to do: (1) Oil and filter (hasn't been done for a year/10000miles) (2) Spark plugs, Ignition leads, distributor cap and rotor arm (never done in three years I have had it but I can see sparks in dark garage on leads) (3) Fuel filter and air filter (did air filter 18months ago, never done fuel) Is there anything else should be done? -
mondeo mk3 tddi high fuel consumption 2 Mar 2005 (Forum)
hi, can anyone help? i have just purchased a 2001 mondeo tddi 2.0l zetec(60,000miles) and am getting really bad fuel consumption, ie, 26 mpg around town, this has been consistant for 4 weeks and i have been driving like a sunday driver (im not a boy racer) the garage have done a diognostic test which did not show any engine faults, but the oil level was 1/2l above max, the mechanic said this could be the problem so he drained it out, also the air flow sensor was unplugged (i noticed this about three weeks ago) so i plugged it back in but there was no noticable difference to the engine running when i did so, have i bought a pig in a sack??? -
Astra 1.7TD 1998 - Fuel leak 7 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Hi, Just got back from a shopping trip and noticed my car smelling strongly of diesel. Opened the bonnet to find fuel all over the engine bay. On turning the key, it is spraying out of one of the glow-plug housings. The last (or first depending on how you look at it!) glow plug has only one line into it, whereas all the others have (I assume) an in and out feed. -
Renault Scenic Starting Problems - HELP! 12 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Can anyone tell me if this sounds electrical or a dodgy fuel pump etc. etc. All help greatly appreciated. Cheers. -
Noisy Fuel Pump - Renault 5 26 Mar 2004 (Forum)
It sounds like what I would expect a pump to sound like when spooling down. Having a look around I\'m pretty sure that it\'s the fuel pump. If this is the case are these early symptoms that it might be on it\'s way out? (there has been no noticeable change in performance or efficiency) I just want to know if I should think about replacing it.
