Audi Q7 - Dealer changing agreed trade-in valuation 24 Aug 2010 (Forum)
I've paid a deposit and signed for an order for a new 49K BMW on the basis of a very generous trade-in valuation of my 18 month old option loaded Q7. The paperwork has been signed by me and the dealer sales manager but I have a suspicion in the back of my mind that they may have made a mistake valuing my car. -
Another vague "what car should I buy" post! 5 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Also considered a Seat Leon of some form, but doesn't really qualify as sexy / unusual enough. Also considered some form of BMW 3 or 5 series, and apart from a bit of a poor "sales rep" image, this is probably top contender at the moment. (I like the slightly older models with the boot spoiler, not the new shapes, and this also helps with prices). -
Which new diesel automatic? 5 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I am getting together a short list of suitable cars and would welcome comments, both positive and negative, from owners of the following cars: Audi A3 Sportback 140 S-tronic By the time the options are added it gets quite expensive. BMW 1 Series 118d auto I have heard that the run flats give a harsh ride and that the interior quality isn’t great. Volvo V50 Powershift Some people complain about the poor economy and, according to one of the magazines, is due to be replaced next year. -
Future advances in car technology 9 May 2009 (Forum)
With the possibility of average speed cameras being introduced nationwide I think manufacturers will start to sell even basic models with either cruise control of some form of speed limiting device. I would imagine BMW or Mercedes having a camera device which will actually scan and 'read' road signs and automatically adjust the speed of the car accordingly with the ability to override the speed limiter with a dab of the accelerator similar to cruise control. -
Car suggestions 22 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Price wise looking to pay £8-9K though could go a bit higher if needed. I'm a male 25 btw. My current thoughts are: BMW - 3 series coupe 330ci (though would be looking at one round 02/03 with 60k for the sort of money above). Advantages - looks the part, I assume will drive well though I am yet to try one. Disadvantages - older so perhaps reliability problems, running costs. -
Renault Scenic (1996 - 1998) - 1998 1.6 Head gasket - Again! 1 Jan 2009 (Forum)
As they can't afford to get it fixed, I was wondering about doing it myself. I've done gaskets before (a long time ago), lots of minis, couple of 6 pot BMWs, Ford essex V6, WV etc, I was wondering if any special tools were needed, is it a complex job, how do those weird french ignition coil pack things work? etc. How hard is it to get the inlet manifold off, it looks really inaccessible. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 05 1.6 - Anyone experienced clutch problems ? 15 Apr 2008 (Forum)
My old Peugeot 309 1.9D was still on its original clutch at 150k and my current 306 1.9TD covered 172k on its original clutch. My mate's 1998 Passat TDi is also approaching 150k on its original clutch and my boss's BMW M5 has just had a clutch replacement at 120k. And as if he hasn't suffered enough already, he called me on Sunday to say that he is now having problems engaging gears and the car seems to be well down on power. -
Northumbria Police 3 Good PR 0 27 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Victim 1 Perpetrator 0 Additionally I pick up a passenger from opposite a well-known food store in Kingston Park. As she is in a wheel chair it is easier to pick her up at a dropped kerb access. The owner of a BMW (It would be ) persists on parking on the verges but also completely over the tarmac dropped kerb access from footpath through verge to road. I have contacted Northumbria Police on no fewer than 7 occasions to try to see if this is legal. -
E39 525d v 530d...any thoughts? 17 Sep 2006 (Forum)
The E39 has the advantage that there are a huge amount of them around, at really good prices - we could even afford to buy from a BMW dealer, which might give us a wee bit more backup if something goes wrong. Mrs Barchetta´s main requirements are ´leather seats and not plasticky´. At the very top of our limit is the 530d - the 193bhp engine I think. -
Croydon Motor Show 30 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I just got home from the first day of the inaugral two day Croydon Motor Show and it was a surprisingly enjoyable day. Most of the the major manufacturers were present via local dealers with the notable exceptions of BMW, Mercedes and Skoda. Commentary and driver interviews of the various cars in the parade ring (every 30 minutes, Estates, MPVs, Execs etc etc) were by Top Gear's James May who was very dry and witty and an all round good egg. -
Toyota Hi-Lux, anyone? 3 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Only spec fault I could find was no leather but I know the Swiss guy who manages all the leatherwork here for BMW and Merc in the Philippines so I think that could be fixed. Also looked at: Mitsubishi L200 Strada - dated now, probably due for facelift. I had one of the box shaped ones and reckoned it was the best 4WD I've ever driven (we do a good bit of volcano and jungle-bashing over here). -
4x4 bubble - will it burst? 7 Oct 2005 (Forum)
For example, the 3 year value for Merc ML is quoted (Autocar and the like) as being over 70%, ditto for BMW X5 and some others. Conversely something like an E-class estate is usually only in the mid-60% range, and the 5 series touring is in the high 50s. Is this a bubble that is about to burst? I have some interest in this... -
About to buy a new Volvo? 30 Jun 2005 (Forum)
You will not find a 1 year old Diesel S60 at a dealer for anything like as cheap, and this makes it a terrific bargain for those of you considering a BMW 3, Merc C Class, Audi A4 or even a Volvo S40! I hope this helps someone. Cheers! Gavin -
Rover 75 Tourer 14 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Volvo V70 pertol {owned from new / hence worst of depreciation over} and wanted something sexier / cheaper to run, but still with lots of storage space / room for dog etc. HJ suggested {'98} BMW and Merc estates, both of which would cost more / would be older / higher miles etc. Both are more hatch back than estate, with v sloping rear end. HJ even suggest a Rover 75 Tourer {2000 plate}- OK, the diesel 75 may do 10 mpg more on average than the Volvo, saving perahps £250 tops per year, but the 75 will be just about worthless at 5 years old, but be Volvo would still be worth a good few grand - the Volvo is a bigger, safer, faster, 'sexier' and more realiable than the 75. -
Mini problems 18 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Windows start going up and down again after a few miles so he pulls into a pub car-park and Mini recovery come out again to remove a handful of fuses. If this is BMW engineering in my opinion they are better off at the bottom of the North Sea and if anyone wants to offer me a 30% premium over the £11,700 I paid for it I'd bite their hand off and buy a Toyota. Has anyone else had problems? -

Sad farewell to a beloved car 14 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Oh well, it had to go! After I collected the BMW last week I decided the MR2 just had to go. Previously I'd advertised it in the local press and Autotrader in line with the various price guides valuations. I got one sniff via Autotrader from a muppet who offered me rock bottom dealer price. -

Vauxhall Zafira - Uninsured Driver Has Cost us a packet. 22 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I then had Drive Assist call back to inform me that the Reg Number I had given them was listed as belonging to a Black BMW X5, and not a silver Range Rover. Therefore we got no hire car as the other driver was uninsured. After Googling the phone number the driver had given me, it turns out he is a motor trader selling high end cars (He has 2 Gaillardos for sale at £80k each).
