  • SUZUKI IGNIS 2003 - 3RD TIME CHANGING BRAKE DISCS WITHIN A YEAR 6 Oct 2013 (Forum)
So, i got a new set of discs fitted (blueprint) free of charge and bought new pads. today, 3 months later, i get the same symptoms while braking (steering wheel shaking), i just went to the same garage, and the mechanic is now accusing the poor quality of the discs & pads fitted, strongly suggesting me to get genuine suzuki parts fitted instead.

  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 01 2.0 Noise from rear brake(s) 23 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Seemed fine driving home Friday evening but having taken it out since for a decent run I have noticed an odd sound coming from the O/S rear brakes. I'm fairly certain they're disc brakes on these though haven't checked to be honest! The sound couldn't quite be described as a grinding but it's definitely a friction-like sound. Imagine clawing your nails lightly across a formica surface...!
  • Nissan Almera (2000 - 2006) - 2004 1.8S Auto erratic mpg after service! 16 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Since the spark plug problem we've used 7 tanks of fuel (doing 2,500ish miles) & got the following mpg figures: First tank after the spark plug problem = 30mpg Second tank = 30mpg Third tank = 38mpg Fourth tank = 30mpg Fifth tank = 35mpg Sixth tank = 32mpg Seventh (& last) tank = 32mpg It's running perfectly, no problems at all, there aren't any warning lights on the dashboard, the brake pads were replaced on the service & the brake callipers were fine (plus it's accelerating and braking OK) so it's not the brakes binding & there doesn't seem to be any black smoke coming out of the exhaust.
  • Catastrophic Brake failure 6 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I think that to some extent the garage acted in good faith ie if they had thought there was a serious problem with the brakes they would have done something more about it but I do not see why I should suffer from the whole sorry affair and am wondering whether to resort to more formal legal redress or whether there is a commercial discussion to be had with the garage as I would consider buying a vehicle off them again.
  • Nissan Qashqai - Qashqai Noise 9 Mar 2024 (Forum)
When 'cold' it doesn't make this noise at all.  The noise stops if you rest your foot lightly on the brake pedal. My initial feeling was wheel bearing or front discs (Front Brake discs worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened - MOT) but a trusted local mechanic has checked both and doesn't think this is the case.

  • Audi A4 - Rear end crash 3 Jan 2015 (Forum)
The two cars in front were clearly driving without due care and attention. I would have had plenty of time to stop for the junction if they had braked correctly and indicated their intentions. I have witnesses in my favour. How do I stand? Edit: My bad. They braked sharply not breaked.
  • Ford Mondeo, diesel 2ltr, 2011 - vibration / shuddering when applying the brakes 2 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Hi, any advice appreciated, I bought the Mondeo in march this year with 40k on the clock, still has a year of manufacturers warranty left, in june the clutch went (10 days after the 60 day dealer warrant ran out)  only sign was the revs climbing at 2500rpm for a second then back to normal, this happened a coupe of times then the cluch went, took it to a ford garage and they said the clutch was burnt out and recommended that I change the slave and the DMF, £1400. ouch and not warrantable, now a couple of weeks later there is a strong shudder / vibration coming up through the steering wheel when the brakes are applied, the dealer I bought it from and the ford garage that fixed the clutch both say that is warped discs,(poss £450.00 to fix) Ford warranty say they are not warrantable parts, if anyone knows what the problem could be and where I stand on warranted parts, and what come back I may have against the dealer I bought it from (A Clark in Edinburgh), I feel anoyed that im spending alot of money on a car I have only had for 4 months, and when I get someone on the phone they are quick to pass me to someone else or fob me off.
