  • Saab Car Test Video 21 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I'm sure you've all seen the images of Saab 9000's slalom(ming) between cones in succession whilst being put through their paces. Well - I got emailed a link to a video made by Saab years ago and I have to say, it is absolutely amazing. The men driving those cars truly have a gift.
  • Volvo V70 2.0T 18 Mar 2005 (Forum)
A collegue has just been offered a V70 on a '04 plate with less than 10k on the clock from a main dealer in S spec with the 2.0T engine. This will be used as a company car. We have negotiated to £16,500 which to me seems a cracking deal. I am not familiar with the engine though. Anyone tried one that can give me feed-back?
  • Dim dip headlights 24 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I was thinking back the other day about the late 80's when dim-dip technology was introduced (preventing side light driving by switching on dipped beam at half voltage?). Does anyone know why this was discontinued? I have noticed many new cars driving around on tiny front side lights.
  • 'Naked' Street 9 Jan 2005 (Forum)
According to the programme, apparently those responsible for the concept feel the increased sense of awareness and vulnerability felt by road users and pedestrians (including the 10000's of tourists visiting nearby museums) alike may be beneficial in calming traffic and reducing congestion and so on. Yes, I've checked to see if it's April 1st but it isn't! :)
  • Ford Fiesta 1.25 LX - Rear Wiper 29 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hi. My wife has a problem with the wear wiper on her S reg Fiesta. When the wiper is put to the on position, the arm moves as normal but the wiper continues past its normal stopping position and dangles down by the number plate. So, the motor seems to be working OK so what should stop the wipe arm from 'drooping'?
  • Mondeo brake problems 12 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Shoes and flexi-pipes changed, drums swapped, cylinders in good working order and of same bore, everything stripped, cleaned, greased where appropriate, entire system blead out and new fluid put in, but the result`s from 2 different test centres show no change.......does anyone know anything about the compensator valves on the master cylinder? and which one-if either-might be responsible?
  • Volvo S60 and depreciation 26 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I've been looking at used Volvo S60's. An approx. figure is between £13k and £14k for a 2002, 20T SE, Auto, with up to 20k on the clock. These cars retailed at about £23k when new, so a £10k drop in 2 years seems heavy, but does this bode well for a used car i.e. will the depreciation curve now slow?
  • Plip Codes 20 Oct 2004 (Forum)
t happen again and the wrong kind of person notice it. Come to think of it, did I unlock someone else?s car when I arrived?
  • Speed thresholds 7 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Mid afternoon today, clear and bright, little traffic, south bound on the M5 around Bridgewater, as I passed under a bridge I noticed - on the bridge - a lens being retracted into a police car through the n/s/f window. I was doing less than 85 (approx 82/83) heading towards the bridge, saw the police car too late, worried I have been caught on camera. Regards.
  • Why doesn\'t the Heater on my Ibiza Work? 3 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Thought I would seek advice on this as someone may know the answer. The heater on my sister\'s car will not give out hot air. The cooling system is full, I have checked that the fan and also that the temperature switch that controls the fan works. My thoughts are that it could be the thermostat or possibly a blockage in the heater matrix.
  • RS Turbo Escort 1988 14 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Hi all, would it be possible to replace a small end con-rod shell bearing from the sump end of a CVH engine? My engine\'s making a bit of a knocking noise on tick over. I\'m not sure what the throw of this engine type is, therefor not sure if the crank pin will provide sufficent clearance for this job. If not I guess it\'ll be a head removal and piston/conrod removal from the head side after taking the sump and conrod cap off.
  • Low or High Mileage? 24 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Having read number67's post on a low mileage no service history car and the subsequent responses, it got me thinking about this thought that a high mileage car is better than a low mileage car. Now i dont know if i'm in the minority on here but as long as a car is regularly serviced i would generally always rather have the low mileage car.
  • sh 93 or 95 for same price? 16 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I'm currently looking for a second hand Saab 93 for upto £6500 but have noticied that there are a few nice 95's in the same price bracket. Anyone have any advice or opinions on which model to go for (93 or 95)? I'm not intending to do a lot of mileage (10000 max pa) and most of it urban with the occasional weekend excursion.
  • Citroen Xsara Diesel Revs 28 Jul 2004 (Forum)
In the FAQ section, it says you should run a diesel to 4,500rpm a couple of times a week. Is this true for all cars? I have a S-reg Xsara and the red section on the rev counter starts at 4,750rpm. It's not often I get above 3,000rpm in normal driving. The car runs great but fails its emissions bit of the MoT every year - is this coz of how I drive?
  • Car by Car Breakdown 27 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Or are the faults in reality limited to a small number of cars, with general reliability being pretty good? Due to experiences in my Dad\'s old Renaults and Citroens as a kid, I have a phobia about unreliable cars. His Renault 16 used to overheat on every long trip.
  • Growly noises 24 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Anyone old enough will remember, for example - - Morris Minor 1000 (for some reason, not the 803) on the overrun - first gear in one of the Austin Counties - Devon, Hampshire etc - the two-stroke diesel Commer lorry of the 50's. Newer cars seem less memorable - perhaps you can think of more recent sounds. The Subaru flat-four perhaps.
  • Bi-Xenons 22 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I have recently seen 2 year-old cars of all makes with one bulb failed. Obviously not true?. 2. My wife?s car has Bi-Xenons fitted..they work OK but there is a warning label under the bonnet stating that they must only be changed by a dealer, plus there is a warning 'Warning: Risk of Death! 25,000 Volts DC?
  • volvo 1.8 GDI engine fuel query 13 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I have recently picked up a volvo s40 GDI at auction (see new car advice thread). http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=21008 In honestjohn\'s car by car breakdon he notes that this engine is designed for 98 ron unleaded and faults have occurred wehere cars have used lower standard octane rated fuel. Could anyone explain this in more detail, the guide book and sticker in the filler cap says use 95 octane unleaded.

  • Black Boxes to monitor tuning mods 15 Mar 2004 (Forum)
In future once black boxes are fitted, all ECU mods and tuning devices will be detectable and not only will the vehicles warranty be invalidated, but the true vehicle`s history will be made available to the used car buying public.
