  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1994 1.9 XRD - Glow plug problem 21 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I got some new glow plugs for my old car [to get it half decent to sell it!] - but when taking the old glow plug out, the bit of the engine which the glow plugs screw into broke off! ...I was just asking what that bit is called, I'm not sure if its the cylinder head because I've looked at some images of cylinder heads and none of them have a top cover bit...
  • Nissan Primera III (1999 - 2002) - No shim on one back brake pad 12 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I bought a new set of rear pads and when fitting them found that one of the shims had rusted away and broke up when I removed the old pad. I have refitted the old pads and am going to get new shims tomorrow. A quick internet search refers to the shims as anti-rattle or squeal. I am therefore hoping the car is safe to drive? 80 mile round trip tomorrow.

hi, this is driving my old man mad, i know this is an old car but someone may know the answer. dad's got a hillman minx 1600, 1965 and it has started to misfire when it's hot, after about 5 miles, then it dies. he's changed the carb, fuel pump, spark plugs, and had the distributor apart, changed the condenser and points.
  • How can you tell ? 22 Jun 2006 (Forum)
My son got his imported 2nd hand Toyota Lucida yesterday. The dealer assured him they had changed the cambelt. They had shown him the old belt, (well, an old belt) but a suspicious person like me can't help wondering. The engine seems very clean, and has fresh oil, but should he have some documentation to say the job had been done ? Or does he just trust their reputation ?

  • Rover 416 98 R Tourer Radio Display CD 13 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Hi, I have just purchased an R 98 tourer but the clock radio display on the dash does not function properly. I have currently replaced the old tape player with an old sony cd player for the time being but have some questions as I like my cars to remain original and with factory fitted equipment: 1. Will any clock/radio display work with any of the Rover CD head units?

  • Citroen C8/Pug 806 any feedback? 8 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I am at last persuaded by my 15-year-old and 7-year-old sons that my trusty 1996 Synergie should be consigned to history at 115K miles, and replaced with a C8 2.2 HDi 6-speed. Having driven one recently, I am sorely tempted. Anyone think any different?
  • Proof of NCD - Help! 29 Jun 2004 (Forum)
My broker has promised twice on the phone that they would get a proof of NCD sent out to me and nothing has materialised. The new InsCo claim that when they phoned my old company they said the policy was still in force. They are now asking for more money as they think I'm using the NCD on another policy. Where can I go from here? The broker of the previous policy was told I was not intending to renew with them, I have made no payment to them and have no other car to insure but how do I prove this to my new InsCo and get the relevant info out of the old one before I have to cough up another couple of hundred?
  • Creaking Passat Dash 20 Jun 2004 (Forum)
When I go around a bend the dash creaks and groans like mad. The car is just over two years old. I've tried a few of the old tricks, for example, being liberal with the Pledge and turning the CD player up but it still persists. At first I though it was related to the steering column but having finally located the cause (by driving around a bend and reaching forward and pressing the dashboard down where it meets the windscreen in front of me) I'm fairly sure that it is the dash.
  • Volvo 960 Air Con 8 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Anyone have access to a circuit diagram that shows where all the sensors are located ? Any information would be appreciated. It's been a splendid car, and still is, save the air con problems - which must be fixable, surely ? Thanks, Old Nick
  • Two Strokes - the sequel 5 Jun 2002 (Forum)
The latest edition of Practical Classics has a feature on two-strokes, and also an article about a magnificent vintage style car powered by a Commer opposed-piston two-stroke diesel. One interesting point from the article - apparently the reason the Ford Ka ended up with the old all-iron crossflow motor which dated back to the Ford Anglia was that it was designed around a compact new two-stroke motor.

  • Does new consumer rights act 2015 apply to my car? 21 Nov 2015 (Forum)
First post - apologies if this is not the right place. I purchased a new car (Vauxhall Astra).  The car was registered on 30 Sept, but I didn't pick it up from the dealer (& part exchange my old car) until October 2nd.  It now has a major intermittent fault which started in the first 2 weeks and which was attempted to be repaired by the supplying dealer.
