  Anyway, I was wondering how to go about recovering our uninsured losses, such as fuel, telephone calls, courtesy car insurance, general inconvenience etc? Is there any way to quantify the inconvenience factor into £s.... We don't have the optional legal cover on the insurance - think its a waste of money. All help will be gratefully received.

  Now excuse my ignorance but how do these systems update themselves? do you have to pay a subcription? how does the toyota system compare with other car makes? What really are the in's and out's of the sat-nav world. Apologies if this type of thread has been covered before.

  Sirs I recently purchased an Astra 2ldti 51 plate, the car has now covered some 18k miles, and I am currently using 1ltr of oil per 1k miles. The dealer tells me that this is acceptable and that consumption will drop as the car gets more miles under its belt.

  I recall HJ directing someone to an insurance company suitable for people who may have more than one older car on the drive (a Citroen BX or two) and may want or need to be covered on alternative cars as and when mechanical attention is needed. Does anyone recall this? btw - I'm being hard-sold Kwik-fit insurance at the moment.

  I've recently purchased a year old Passat 1.8T SE. I decided on this car after losing so much money on my previous Mondeo. I am very satisfied with the car but with one exception. The Dashboard groans and creaks with every imperfection in the road and around every bend.

  At the height of the storms up here yesterday there was a utilities contactor trying to carry out some resurfacing/patching on one of the roads into Carlisle, and as SWMBO went past to work the car was literally covered in spots. We are now the owners of a Dalmation Sharan, there is not a panel that has been missed. I have duly logged a complaint with the relevant authority and have been given an estimate of £40 by a professional valeting firm to clean the car up.
