  • Jaguar X-Type Estate (2004 - 2007) - 2005 2.0ltr Query when starting from cold 23 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Just a enquiry, after a cold night on Monday about 3 degrees went to start the car did all the usual waited for glow plug light to extinguish etc dash lit up as normal, but on trying to start it turning the key to position III nothing happened radio, heater still on dash as normal, it did not even try to turn over. I assumed to battery was shot (Jan 2005) but have had no indication that it was on its way out, tried jump leads still no response, by more luck than design I kept the key in the position III for approx three seconds and hey presto it fired straight up no turning over just fired straight up.
  • M6 congestion 31 Aug 2008 (Forum)
If there is an accident or other emergency then so be it, but I wonder if over zealous operators have a bit of fun with traffic control that suits them and not us. If there is no obstruction to any lane get the traffic moving. Even the local radio reported that they had no idea what was causing the congestion. They offered "weight" of traffic. NO I screamed in frustration, its those gantries and the morons operating them.
  • Volkswagen Polo III (1994 - 1999) - 96 1.4 Charged battery - gone flat overnight 19 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I figured the battery had died (I hadn't used the car for a few days and thought I'd left the lights/radio on or something) so quickly got my powerpack out and jump started the car and thought nothing of it - I took the long route to work to allow the alternator to build up enough charge for starting the car in the evening.
  • BMW 3-Series E92 Coupe (2006 - ) - Finally got off the pot 3 Mar 2008 (Forum)
And it's so direct it could be replaced with a rocker switch marked right and left. There's little risk of information overload with the heater and the on/off button for the radio. But at the end of the day I just couldn't resist one last hurrah in a hooligan's car so I have ordered the bum waggler with my heart. Thanks to everyone who helped.
  • Audi A4 B6 (2001 - 2005) - 02 A4 ignition/ steering lock problem 22 Dec 2007 (Forum)
He's tried all sorts of jiggling of wheel and key, then applied a little brute force. The key now turns 180 degrees in the ignition and turns the radio on but will not turn on the ignition (will not start the car), and the steering wheel will not unlock. The central locking seems to have gone awry, it sometimes locks all doors except the drivers, sometimes locks only the drivers.
  • KIA Sedona (2006 - ) - 2007 2.9TD Auto - short test drive 15 Nov 2007 (Forum)
She has the top of the range with electric drivers seat, leather, heated seats, cruise etc. The only disapointment is lack of radio controls on the wheel. Confortable seats as well. I just got in and drove. £22,000 OTR approx. Compared to the alternatives (Citroen/Pug, Galaxy, Espace & Voyager, it is better value, has better warranty - that you are unlikely to need - and looks quite good as well - quite sharp and appers to be shorter than its predecessor.
  • Battery Failing? 2001 Vaux Vectra 15 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I then went to start the car and everything dropped out but I managed to get her started with some perseverance - radio in safe mode and the idle a little lumpy but soon settled down. I took the car for a spin for a few miles and all is well. I started the car without problem this morning. A couple of years ago I had a similar problem and the fault was traced to a sticking throttle body.
  • should my car do this??? 27 May 2006 (Forum)
I decided that it must be some sort of fancy security device so thieves would get locked in (and it stopped happening once I put the key in the ignition so I could listen to the radio)and thought no more of it. However since discovering that they apparently did miss something on the check I am now a bit worried. I have just read the handbook and it describes this type of locking as 'double locking' but says that you need to press the lock button on the remote twice in 5 seconds for it to work and I didn't press it at all, I just unlocked the car, got in and started cleaning!
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 98 1.4 - sluggish performance and EML. 8 Mar 2006 (Forum)
The fuel gauge seems to stick every now and then so I have to guess how much is in there. My fuel economy seems to have plummeted too. My radio seems to be possessed and have a mind of it's own. When it's cold, and I've been driving my car for a while, when I finally stop my fan is on for quite some time and there's a smell - bit like clutch burning.
  • Inferiority Complex 13 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Anyway, got to next junction to find they pulled up alongside me - a beaten up wreck with 4 young lads wearing baseball caps inside, radio blaring out and tinted windows. They seemed to have an obsession with my car. Got home, checked my car and then discovered that from outside my car looked just like theirs, black inside and out makes it looks like I have dark tinted windows ..... combined with the standard rear spoiler and Lexus style rear lights it look just like a young lads car.
  • Vocabulary 24 May 2004 (Forum)
t bat an eyelid at the odd mild swear word, even though she never uses them herself. And you can hear the A, B, C, P and S words on Radio 4 at 6.30 ? not that I?d like to see them all over the BR. So why not lighten up a little, mods? Nothing wrong, surely, with the odd use of carp or something humorously abusive when emotion runs high, especially when there?
  • New car order gone wrong! 16 Jan 2004 (Forum)
My order was for a metallic navy blue car with a Blue Doria cloth interior with factory order options of a FF alarm and radio buttons on the steering wheel. JJ has off their own back decided to order me a different colour that even they do not know what it looks like and told me the blue interior has been discontinued and again off their own back have ordered me a black interior, as well as this they had no records of the options i had requested when i originally ordered the car.
  • VW Golf Mk IV 1 Jan 2004 (Forum)
It is a sports model with 16inch alloys met paint climate control sports suspension, sports steering wheel and instrument dials. However it comes without any radio / cd player. My main worry is that they dont allow you to test drive and I havent seem car of similar spec ie diesel tiptronic in a sports model at any VW dealer so dont know what it drives like.
  • How to reduce motoring stress... 24 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Hello Coming back from Gloucester on the M4 yesterday , I began thinking about how the Government could begin to put to good use all the millions of pounds generated by speed cameras. An education campaign on TV,Radio and in the press!!! Here's what they could cover: 1. Lane discipline - if the lane to your nearside is clear , then MOVE OVER! You don't need to sit in the outside or middle lane if lanes 2 and/or 1 are empty. 2.Lights - if its dark or raining , then use them.Check ALL of them each week (including your brake lights)to see that they actually work!
  • Logbooks/Car documents 16 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I told him the post office story and he said I should have gotten it in the mail by now. I didn't know I was supposed to get anything in the mail. He took my name and address and radioed it in with (I assume) my car reg number, but I couldn't hear the reply. He seemed bothered that I had no registration documents, but after a min or two he said I was free to go, which is good, but it left me wondering about the next time I am stopped.
  • peugeot 405 5th Gear Problems 11 Oct 2003 (Forum)
The lever itself is far too forward - and with 2nd, 4th or reverse selected - the lever is at the normal position for neutral. When 1st, 3rd or 5th is selected the lever is nearly touching the plastic where the radio is! There was a problem in that a bodged fix had been done where the bellcrank bolt attaches to the steering rack - which needed a replacement of the rack (And the fact that the rack was leaking anyway) and correct parts fitted.
  • Top 10 Anti Boredom Remedies 23 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I guess there a plenty of BRs in the same situation as me, driving the same old boring journey to work (on your own of course), without being able to vary the route, same 6 CDs in the player that you haven't changed for two months, fed up of all the radio stations, not too keen on building up a huge mobile bill so your mind turns to other things. Top 10 remedies... 1. Deciding on whether I would swap my car for the one that has just passed on the opposite carriageway - not recommended for motorways 2.
  • When is a New car not a New car? 18 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I would be gratefull if anyone could let me have their opinion as to my legal rights and/or any similar experiences and hopefully succesful resolutions. sadly the car also came minus a proper service guide/booklet,radio guide, cigarette lighter for the receptical and a few other blemishes. Thanks in advance.
  • Shock ! F1 gets interesting 16 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Autosport have reported that the following will happen this year: Placing cars in parc ferme between final qualifying and the race (teams will be unable to work on them, except under strict supervision) Elimination of traction control, launch control and fully automatic gearboxes (possible derogation for all or part of 2003, to be followed by absolute enforcement in 2004, if necessary by standard ECUs) Elimination of pit to car and car to pit telemetry Elimination of all radio comminucation between car and driver Allowing only two cars per team (ie: no spare cars) Some REAL changes which should close up the grid. Finally the controversy..... Villeneuve Vs Button The mental games have started even before a wheel is turned.
