  • Ford Focus Zetec S 1.8 tcdi - repair problems 6 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Hi, I have just had a timing belt snap (the main one was replaced at 95,000 miles) on my ford focus zetec S (59) with 156,000 miles, I was told that it was the inner one that snapped that has no replacement schedule ?? I have had it repaired (all new valves and pistons) and a new clutch and flywheel. It came back from a local independent garage only to find it had a fuel leak, it went back and I was told the fuel pump had gone (not his fault !)
  • Audi A3 1.8TFSI Sport S-tronic - Replace mechatronics unit or not? 21 Dec 2013 (Forum)
My wife has owned an Audi A3 1.8TFSI Sport S-tronic since new (Aug 2007). It has covered 56,000 miles, is in super condition and we love it other than the DSG transmission's jerkiness from rest. After this worsened, Audi reset the software, which slightly improved matters, but it is still very difficult to manoeuvre at slow speeds because of the sudden, jerky take-up of drive however carefully one feathers the throttle.

  • Ford S-MAX - Broken bolt - roofbars 7 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Went to hire a rof box for our hols today. The S-max has fixed points under covers on the roof.  All going well until, when tightening the bolt holding the rack to the roof, the guy fitting it sheared the bolt flush with the hole. He drilled down the broken stud but it did not fully remove and the bar is now held firmly with a self tapping screw into the hole left by drilling I'm fine for my hols.
  • Jaguar S-Type (1999 - 2007) - 00 - Auto gearbox fault on - decisions 1 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I've got a 2000 (X-reg) Jaguar S-Type 3.0 Auto SE, which has developed a gearbox fault - cannot select 4th or 5th gear. It's still drivable around town, but maybe the gearbox will fail totally soon. I'm going to take it to the local auto gearbox place tomorrow.
  • Honda Jazz/Fit (2001 - 2008) - random tyre pressures 2 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Since May [I keep records] loss has been random - once the steering and brakes felt so odd I returned home. On checking, both off side tyres were down 3 lbs more than the n/s pair. The latest check revealed the o/s front and n/s rear to be down while the others were fine. The Jazz is sensitive to pressure loss and I am usually aware of the need to check. I am at a loss [pun intended] to explain this and would welcome any ideas.
  • MINI Cooper S R53 (2002 - 2007) - 2003, 30k miles - Interesting bargain or scam? 1 Apr 2008 (Forum)
While looking at the private adds on Autotrader for a Cooper S I was struck by one advertised for £4801, it being a 2003 with 30k miles and supposedly in excellent condition. It turned out that the seller had bought the car in the UK but was now selling it from Switzerland.

  • Citroen ZX (1992 - 1998) - 1995 1.8 Petrol - Cutting Out On Over-run 30 Nov 2007 (Forum)
s momentum. Whilst it?s doing this the yellow ecu warning light comes on, but goes out again. Sometimes it also pinks under high load, eg motorway hills, otherwise its a good motor. My instinct says a failing engine management sensor, but which one?
  • Focus 1.8 sport s 29 May 2007 (Forum)
We've been looking for a 1.6 LX or higher at about a year or two old (post 05 shape only). But I've found a dealer with a brand new 1.8 sport s, in black, for £10k. That sounds like a good deal to me, or is it?? If you arent aware, the spec is alloys, elec windows/mirrors,Front/back fogs, air con (not climate pack), cd colour coded spoiler, 16v, 125bhp.
  • 1997/R Fiesta 1.25 Zetec-s engine prob. 24 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Hello folks. My girlfriend owns a 1997/R Fiesta with the 1.25 Zetec-s engine. I have used the car a couple of times over the last few days and noticed a fairly serious problem with it which I need help with. The car only shows this problem when cold. When started and driven from cold there is an intermittent fault whereby the engine severly holds back.
  • Merc S Class. Have I gone mad? 19 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I could be tight, run a car like I currently do and pocket the wonga. Alternatively... I'm thinking about buying a three/four year old diesel S-Class for about £18-£20K. My reasoning runs that in another three years I'll get about £10K for it, so depreciation will have been about £10K over three years, roughly double my Omega's depreciation (£8K over 5 years), but a price I'm willing to pay for a bit of luxury.
  • Jaguar S type diesel 16 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I was invited to a Jaguar driving day yesterday - drove an XJ8 4.2 - very quick, but seeing 6 mpg on the computer and a range of 250 miles on three quarters of a tank makes me come out in cold sweats! Then drove the new S type diesel in Sports guise and what a motor. I can honestly say you do not know what's under the bonnet. It pulls very strongly, has seamless auto gearchanges and is whisper quiet. Bonus is on our 20 mile run it returned 45 mpg.
  • Honda Prelude Type-S, opinions? 31 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I have an opportunity to buy a 1997 Prelude Type-S, Japanese import. (Nutter spec, 2.2 VTEC, 230bhp, 0-60 in 6 seconds, 150mph top end, you know the drill.) 75000 miles, unmodified from original spec, excellent overall condition, all proper documentation tracking it right the way back to Japan, was imported to the UK in 1999.
