Last minute bargaining chips 17 Jan 2006 (Forum)
and perhaps a full tank, is there anything else I can try and squeeze out of the deal? It's an approved used car so warranty is already sorted and I'm paying cash so a better finance rate isn't relevant. -
Reg No. Request on Ebay 2 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I have a car up on ebay with a buy it now price of nearly 12k. Someone has requested the registration number to 'do the usual checks'. I've stated there is no finance outstanding and HPI clear. Is it safe to give out the registration number when all the other details are on the web? Am I becoming paranoid? Can anyone advise please (btw, I'm nearly sure about the paranoid bit). -
Car debt at death 1 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Within the next couple of days the father in law is expected to croak it. He has finance on his car that still has some way to go. Mother in law doesnt fancy trading her broom up, so will need to sell it. If she just stops the payments, is she liable or does the debt die with the old man. -
Car Build costs 13 Feb 2002 (Forum)
It would be interesting to know within what price range a base Mondeo would fall (pre tax) in various European countries. Any ideas out there? Perhaps the Finance Director at Genk will post a reply!!! -
BMW 5 Series - Dealership’s HPI Check 23 Sep 2020 (Forum)
They've said the HPI they did 2 years ago was fine. We’ve seen it and it looks questionable. The car way purchased using the dealers finance (HP agreement) so each month we’ve been paying for a car which we now know wasn’t worth anything like we thought. We want to return the car under the terms of the finance agreement but are worried they will be allowed to re-value it in light of the mileage. -
what would you choose? 18 Nov 2019 (Forum)
i do around 16-20k miles per year. up and down the m6 so mostly moving but some start/stop traffic. im thinking a diesel would give me better mpg than the petrol ive got so would save on fuel costs. I dont really want to go over £8500 which will be financed through savings/loan. currently i have a st-line 1ltr ecoboost 2018 focus which is leased and goes back in april 2020. im getting 43.1mpg over 28k miles so far. instead of leasing im thinking of buying to save money in the long term after ive paid off the finance. -
Audi A3 Sportback - Parked car hit by another driver... 1 Jul 2016 (Forum)
The other drivers insurance have paid for us to get a hire car until we either get a courtesy car from the garage repairing or until we settle negotiations if it's a write off. We have £20,200 outstanding on the finance and the value of the car when we purchased it (and added on all of our amazing extras!) was around £27,000. Has anyone ever had this sort of situation before? If your car was written off, did the other party's insurance pay off the remaining finance or should I expect to be offered a terrible settlement and have to pay off the remainder myself? -
Buying 4x4 for export to Sri Lanka 22 Apr 2002 (Forum)
In addition to deciding which 4x4 to buy, and where to buy it, to execute his plan he first needs to learn where to obtain the best finance, as UK banks are unlikely to want to know, and how to research export and shipping mechanisms and costs. All these are subjects in their own right, but if you are able to assist even with just one element in isolation, we would be grateful to read your advice. -
Cazoo - as Buyer isolating 22 Dec 2020 (Forum)
Anyone had any ACTUAL experience with Cazoo/Cinch or anyone else doing distance selling for nearly new cars - no finance needed? Does the delivery guy hang around for you to accept the car? Can you really hand it back within 7 days if you don't like it? What if there isn't one of their service centres anywhere near and you need a warranty / consumer rights repair? -
Best budget laptop? 18 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Problem is that cash is a bit scarce at the moment, and due to other commitments, I don't want to take on anything else on finance. So I'm reaching out to any expert's among us on what the best laptop out there for under £300 would be?. He wouldn't be using it for gaming, just his school work. Thanks in advance :) -
Twingo - New Car - Changing owners 1 Jun 2011 (Forum)
For some reason the dealer insists on ptting me as the registered keeper (probably because I'm paying the finance !). Anyway, to simplify the insurance for my daughter, she needs to be the registered owner. I'm happy enough to sign the car over to her, but the V5 can take upto 5 weeks to arrive. Is there anyway I can change the V5 quicker ? -
Vauxhall Astra H (2004 - 2009) - Is buying a Vauxhall risky? 23 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Given the state of GM's finances, would buying a Vauxhall be a risk in any sense (e.g parts, re-sale etc etc)? I'm thinking about switching from my Saab 9-3 diesel (1.9 Tid 120) to an Astra 1.8 VVT Automatic, but I wondered whether sticking with a GM brand is a safe bet? -
VAT cut - cui bono? 28 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I've arranged to buy a car. Signed contract, arranged finance, sent the forms back. Now suppose I don't actually get the car until 2 December, ie after VAT goes down. On a £12,000 car, 2.5% is £300, so a not inconsiderable sum. Should the price of my car go down? -
"Gap insurance..." 13 Mar 2008 (Forum)
For my new Hyundai 1.6 I am offered by GMAC (via the dealer) "equivalent vehicle price" for three years at about £500. "Purchase price refund" would cost less and I do not need "finance repayment" cover. As I haved not written off, or had stolen any of my previous 24 cars (apart from the first, which burnt to death spontaneously after 48 hours) I am sceptical. Comments on the value of such cover welcomed. -
Peugeot 207 cc 16 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Doesn't seem to be quite the same quality as a F Focus or VW Eos and of course has only 2 tiny rear seats but has a good spec and a bmw designed 120bhp engine and 'only' costs £14795. Plus there offering free insurance, fairly cheap finance, and an amazing £750 for my Merc 190 with dent(if you recall).Like to know anyones views on this car or have experience with the 207 hatchback or the 206 cc? Thanks. -
Contract Hire / PCP / Other 21 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Presume at that price you get nothing in the way of insurance, servicing or anything other than depreciation and financing avoidance. Is there any circumstance in which any of these schemes are actually better than buying? Since the companies offering the schemes are commercial enterprises and need to make a profit by hiring to you, surely not? -

I have to buy a car for my job 23 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I will need to provide my own car, and expect to cover about 30K-35K per year. Can anyone advise me as to the best way to source and finance a reliable medium sized (eg Mondeo) car. I cannot afford to buy one for cash. Where is the best place to obtain independent advice? Any help welcome. -
Quick decision 28 Jun 2001 (Forum)
I ordered a Ford Ka Collection in State Blue Metallic from a local Ford dealer. The deal included 12 months insurance, 0% finance, and a CD player for £7325. The dealers phoned my wife this evening saying that they've failed to locate a Ka in State Blue Metallic but can locate a Ka Collection in Panther Black Metallic and with airconditioning at no extra cost.
