  • At last I've found a decent MOT station. 3 Jul 2017 (Forum)
After last years MOT fiasco I used a different local garage this year, they were very polite, not patronising and commented several times on how it was a pleasure to have tested my van because it is as clean underneath as it is on top.

  • Interesting change to MOT extensions 11 Jun 2020 (Forum)
The government have made a small change to the MOT extensions. "If you take your vehicle for its MOT and it fails Your MOT extension will no longer apply if you take your vehicle for its MOT and it fails. Your vehicle will need to be fixed and pass its MOT before you can use it again.
  • Van purchase advice 18 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I was thinking a old Renault Traffic or similar - it will need one month MOT and Tax and as long as it has one last journey in it I'll buy it. Is this madness or good sense? Any vans better than others? Petrol or Diesel? Auction or private? Any advice gratefully received MB

  • Speeder gets away without current MoT 4 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Is this odd? The car was insured, and roadworthy (passed the MoT with no advisories etc), so it was a relatively minor offence, but you'd have thought the process would have flagged the missing MoT?
  • Mercedes - Sold a motorhome now guys wants to return it ! 18 Nov 2011 (Forum)
After putting in fuel he mentioned to us that the brakes felt a bit shuddery - we told him that we didnt know of any problems with the brakes, the van had not done a great deals of miles since last MOT and had been sitting for some time but all was ok when passed MOT. Just in case gave the guy our mobile incase of any problems on way home. Guy drove the van 500 miles home, sent and email the next day saying very comfortable van but brakes didnt get any better.

I am looking to replace the steering wheel on my trusty old van, as its a bit manky! Is this a simple job of finding another I like and bolting it on? Do most cars/vans have a "universal" mount, or do they all differ? Will this effect MOT/insurance? Thanks, Dan {Dan, I've edited in the Van I *think* you're referring to.

  • Iveco - KM/Miles on odometer 8 Nov 2020 (Forum)
Looking to buy a used van, and I've seen one with 280K on the clock, but readout is given in KMs not miles, even though it is a UK registered van, why is that? It is a 6.5T vehicle.  Just wondering is it possible to fiddle the mileage as heavy goods vehicles mileage aren't recorded at MOTS so cannot verify that way.
