  I am driving a UK registered car back from Spain to sell it in the UK, but will have to drive it from Dover to London without MOT and tax, as cannot get the MOT and tax until get home to London.  It is currently SORN as been in Spain for 2 yrs.

  Then we're flying to Perpignan where the plan is to rent one for 2 1/2 weeks to look around the region while we stay at an apartment in Ceret, close to the Spanish border. While in Ceret we want to have a brief look at northern Spain and Barcelona. Around June 18 we will fly back from Perpignan to Manchester to hot foot it back to Cardiff for our return flight the next day. Questions are: 1. It seemed that cheapest rentals are in the UK, followed by France, then Spain, but recently it seems rentals may be cheaper in Spain, so does anyone know of a rental company that they would recommend, whether Spain or France?

  Renault Kangoos are very under rated in this country I feel. Although I have never owned one, I did have one as a hire car once in Spain where they proliferate in agricultural areas, as many people will have noticed. The one I had was a very easygoing car to drive. Anyway left hand drive cars feel more natural to drive, I think. And by the way, when I arrived in Spain all I had done was book and pay for a basic sized car through Hertz rentals.

  I wonder if someone can help me. I am moving to Spain in August and want to buy a LH drive Toyota Rav 4. They are really expensive in Spain ( about as dear as here). What would be the best solution if I were to buy a cheap car in France or Netherlands, obviously I want to pay the lowest rate of VAT.

  We love the place and find it exactly right with lovely self catering apartments on the Algarve and English type cafes and bars. Can anyone advise on a similar type place either in Northern Spain or on the Southern Coast in the area of Barcelona. Not a lager lout place but with English speaking facilities to make life easier. Roger (Malteser) hope you read this as you should be the man in the know.

  Just returned from spending the best part of month on a touring holiday in Spain. Thanks to all of those who gave advice before I went. Had a very very nice time. Very uneventful - didn't get peeped at once and no near misses! Driving in the cities (Barcelona, tarragona, Girona) was not too bad - less 'road rage' than in the UK in fact.
